Ramsey left as he had said but not after dragging me along to the school gate before leaving.
"Pheeeeewww." I breathe out and wiped invincible sweat from my forehead.
Only few hours with him had drained me,I wondered how I'll survive a full term with him, anyways I had a week to device plans on how I'd survive. I walked back to class and noticed that the class was already filled which was an inconvenience because I noticed all the stares and murmurs that followed me, I ignored and walked straight to my sit.
One particular spare was more intense with anger or so,the look of Ada's face was priceless,it amused me greatly and I wanted to laugh out load but I restrained my self and kept my poker face till I got to my seat. Ada had been a friend once upon a time but not anymore and it seemed anything concerning me always irritated her probably because the attention I got this morning, o well good riddance to bad rubbish.
The day wasn't eventful and it went by quickly and just as I thought I'd been soon running home to scream out all my frustrations into my pillow, one of the prefects approached me to tell me the principal wanted to see me and for once I wished Ramsey had me attached to his side as always because if I was this wouldn't have happened. I swallowed down my complain and stood up with my bag to the principal's office,I got to the door and knocked on it.
"Come in."
A voice replied from behind the door, definitely the principal's voice. I released a breathe and opened the door while getting myself set for whatever reprimanding I'd get. I entered and the principal was seated in his chair with his arms on his table, the school calendar and a big wall clock was hung behind the chair he was sitting on,to his left side there was a window that was currently locked because the office was air conditioner tight,to the right were shelves containing several educational books and maybe school curriculum,i wasn't sure.
"Have a sit Mrs micheal". He said which I complied.
"I'm sure I don't need to elaborate on the reason I called you but if I must, this is about the stunt you pulled earlier this morning at the assembly."
I wanted to reply and say I knew I was involved but was only I being reprimanded and not Ramsey, he'd probably only get angry because Ramsey was a sore topic for him,so I just kept quiet while he continued.
"Do you have anything to say for yourself." he continued.
I did have a lot to say but I'd always been more of a person that avoided instead of confront. I hated confrontations. I shook my head to indicated no.
"Ok then you'll be punished to serve as a warning to you and others that actions comes with responsibilities. There're students already on duty for cleaning of the toilet and other school facilities this week so your punishment would be pushed to next week,so you'll be on cleaning duties from Monday till Friday next week. Any objections?" he questioned.
He definitely knew the punishment was unfair seeing as it wasn't totally my fault and expected me to complain but I didn't and agreed to the punishment. He then gestured for me to leave immediately the school closing bell rang and I was thankful that I'd atleast been reasonable enough to carry my backpack.
I joined the multitude of students rushing out of the school building, everybody was sure anxious to get home and relax. I entered the school open air environment and saw several flashy cars parked out to pick various students,we had a car but I didn't have anybody to drop me off or pick me when school closed so I preferred to use publicly transportation instead of riding with the other students that lived nearby. I'd tried riding with Davidson once but being in same space with him and Ada had too much tension plus Ada hadn't been secretive about her displeasure in me riding with them so I had to back off since Davidson didn't object to her reasoning.
I strolled outside the school compound and crossed to the other side of the road to board a tricycle going to Okorodudu junction, when I go there I took a drop from the junction to my house inside the estate.
Immediately I got to my house I dropped from the tricycle and paid,I noticed that the Emmanuel's car was already parked in their driveway meaning that Davidson has arrived but I didn't know if the devil was also inside or had gone out,I really hoped he had. I got into the house and locked my door with the key and even bolted it twice to avoid any unwanted visior namely Ramsey. I dropped my bag of on one of the couch on the parlor and went into my room, stripped off my uniform and took a shower, after which I wore a singlet and a short and decided to have a snack before I dozed off.
RAMSEY
immediately I got to my room is flopped on my bed and shut my eyes reminiscing all that had happened today,I smiled at the thought of how Gem had screamed when she saw me and the surprise on everybody's face, for one I didn't like how David acted as if I was some sort of evil going to harm Gem or something, true we've had several collisions while growing up but we were good and I was extremely relieved when she admitted to us being friends.I still had a smile on my face when I heard the car pull into the driveway signaling that my parents or Davidson had arrived, since my window had a view of the door,I brought my head out to check who had pulled in and I saw Davidson and a girl that looked familiar but I couldn't really recognize. I waited for them to get in and decided to wreck havoc,I left my room and went down the stairs immediately sighting them at the dinner section setting their bags on the dinning table.
"Hey son." I called out to Davidson when I clearly knew how much he hated being referred to in inferior terms. I just wanted to get on his nerves a bit for the stunt her pulled earlier.
"Why did you come back?" he questioned while fuming.
"I missed home too much and I just had to come back." I replied in a sappy time that would definitely increase his anger .
"You're lying and we both know it. Dad sent you away because you were too rebellious and impulsive and I don't understand how you'd convince him to let you come back and I don't care, but stay away from me and my business." he replied and made a move to go upstairs towards his room with his mysterious lady friend but he paused and turned to me again.
"And also stay away from Gem,she doesn't need the extra stress." he finished and I saw red.
Nobody told me what and what not to do and when it came to Gem her had no right whatsoever to warn me off,I'd laid claims on her since we met while we were younger and wether we had been friends or enemies depended on us only.
"The hell I will." I thundered out and the girl by his side turned visibly pale and that drew my attention back to her.
"And you'd do well to mind your business and that of your bimbos and leave I and Gem out of it." I continued gesturing towards the girl when I said bimbo and ok hearing that she seemed like she wanted to cry.
"She's not a bimbo she'd my girlfriend and you'll respect her" he stated.
Initially he had gotten on my nerves and made me angry but the moment I completely decoded wat he had said,I was overjoyed though I still maintained a poker face.
Gem didn't have to say but the last time I checked she used to have a massive crush on Davidson,at a point in time I'd thought they would already be dating by the time I got back from Kaduna but it seemed heaven was on my side because not only were they not dating but from what I just heard Davidson already had a girlfriend thereby sealing any relationship he'd have with my briefcase off. I continued my act like I wasn't elated and continued.
"Ok big guy. Good luck." I said while raising my hands up to show I'm backing up and same time smiling and eyeing the both of them up like a predator. They just made my day, probably my year even. I took juice from the kitchen and ran up to my room to nap,the journey had definitely been exhausting.I'd take a quick nap after which I'd visit Gem and disturb her evening that she would've hoped would go stress free, the thought of how frustrated she'd react or look nearly cracked me up. For now I was contented with how things are but definitely things would change. She probably thought I didn't notice but I saw how different she had gotten, she had never being one to make friends but she seemed more lonely than before, she still hated confrontations as before I could tell from how she handled seeing me and our conversations. I had many questions but I'd sure to get answers in due time,I wondered if her parents still travel leaving only her to fend or if she was still scared of spiders like she had been when we were teenagers. Remembering how I'd fed on her fear by pranking her with all sorts of insects made me cringe because thinking back I was definitely terrible, but I hadn't done that because I hated her, that was far from it,I had always wanted to be friends but the moment we met and I saw that she wanted to be friends with Davidson instead even from childhood, I didn't know how to react and so i started picking on her as a defense mechanism, even if that was the only way she'd talk to me.
