Chapter 17 - Seeker

The incident took place on one spring day in April of 2017. It was a sunny weekend.

I was just lying on my bed. Then I thought about moving around the furniture for a change. Decorating around the house has always been a hobby of mine. I thought it'd be tiring and boring to do it by myself, so I invited a close friend of mine.

We hung the curtain. I was happy that it felt like a new house. But at that moment, the closet on the verandah bothered me. The previous tenant must've left it behind because it was there when I first moved in.

I decided to fix the closet as well.

"It's so dusty."

"When did they last clean this?"

I was meticulously wiping the dust off the boards and was finally about to wipe the lowest one. Then suddenly, I heard a noise.

"What was that?"

I knocked on the side of the closet. That's when the board fell. Feeling startled, I lowered my head and peeped inside. I saw an empty space behind the wooden board.

"Did the previous owner add some touch-ups to the closet?"

My friend flashed her phone and I wiped the ground. Then suddenly.....

'AHHH'

I felt some cold and soft fur.

"Don't tell me there is a dead rat inside."

I broke out in a cold sweat and looked closely inside. That's when I saw black fur.

"Is it a rat?"

"A rat?"

Feeling terrified, we screamed and didn't know what to do. But what could we do? Now that we saw it, we had no choice but to carefully take it out of the closet.

It wasn't a dead rat.

"What is that?"

It was a small doll.

And strangely, there was a duct tape wrapped around her eyes. It felt so strange.

"Why was that in there?"

But strangely enough, I really wanted to see her eyes.

'No, this feels ominous. Let's just throw it away." My friend suggested.

"Let me remove this duct tape first."

"Why would you do that? Let's just throw it away."

"Just this once."

"Just throw it away."

I removed the duct tape without any hesitation. The doll was so much prettier than I had thought.

"So cute."
