"I think it's out of batteries."
"But I have only one flashlight."
"Where are the new batteries?"
"They are in the car."
"You guys should stay here. I'll bring them." Seung just walked off saying that.
"What?"
"Seung Hyun! Seung Hyun!!"
"I'll be right back."
It was really killing me. Jae Woo had been to many abandoned places but he seemed really frightened too.
Jae Woo gave me a look, asking if we should just leave. So the two of us quickly left the place. When we went outside, the door to the driver's seat was wide open.
"Jae Woo!"
"Yes?"
"Seung Hyun isn't here."
"What?"
Seung Hyun was nowhere to be seen.
"I'll call him."
"Oh, Come on. Where did he go?"
So Jae Woo called him but he didn't pick up. Right then, we heard a dull sound of something banging into a wall. The sound came from the abandoned funeral home.
I thought he was pulling a prank. Also, I was too scared to go back in there.
"Shall we check?" Jae Woo said.
"Let's go." I also became ready.
Jae Woo and I ended up going back to the basement. The further we went inside, the louder the sound got.
Remember the altar with all the food?
In front of the altar, Seung Hyun was on his knees and banging his head on the floor.
"Hey."
"What are you doing there?"
"Seung Hyun, stop messing around."
"Hey, run!"
"What? Why?"
"What is it, Jae Woo? What about Seung Hyun?"
Jae Woo suddenly grabbed my wrist, and we ran outside the building while screaming like crazy.
"Run! Hurry!"
"What about Seung Hyun?"
"Hurry up."
"Hurry!"
"Get in the car!"
"What?"
"Get in the car now!"
Jae Woo shouted at me to get in the car. He stepped on the gas as hard as he could and drove us out of there.
"Jae Woo!"
Jae Woo, who had been really calm suddenly started cursing while driving.
"What's wrong?"
"What's wrong? Get a hold of yourself!"
Then he started slapping his face.
"Jae Woo!"
"You didn't see that. Didn't you see the woman in there? Those women....."
What Jae Woo told me was shocking.
Seung Hyun, who was banging his head on the floor, was twisted. And according to Jae Woo, there were multiple women of various ages grabbing Seung Hyun's hair and banging his head on the floor.
That was the last time we ever saw Seung Hyun as we ran away from that place.
After coming back from the abandoned funeral home, I was lying on my bed. I was drained and felt really unpleasant. I thought I shouldn't keep this to myself. So I told my grandmother what had happened in detail.
She yelled at me and came to my place. She took out a container from her bag. There were red beans and salt in the container. She sprinkled them all over my body as she murmured to herself, "I am sorry." She kept saying sorry.
