Chapter 34
Merrick's POV
Phillip and I look at each other as we hear the door lock. Outside we hear the rain start to hit the windows. I knew that Ella was upset, rightfully so. Phillip and his father always did surveillance on the nobles, but I would have thought he would have told me before I married her.
"Why didn't you ever tell me?" I ask Phillip.
"I didn't want to make assumptions about her family without knowing the truth. Plus, you were in an arranged marriage, it's not like you could have backed out." he snapped.
"She is MY mate and MY wife, I wouldn't have backed out" I snap back.
His face goes cold and I see the tears form in his eyes. Did I really just say that. I knew that we were all mates. She wasn't just mine...but it had already slipped out of my mouth.
