The troublesome thing about the wolves' attack is not the fight as it wasn't that hard, but the cleanup afterwards.
The houses were destroyed to make the defense and the goblins are now homeless without a place to sleep
and what about these wolves who submitted, thankfully these aren't my problems, so as any true friend would do in this situation I tried to excuse myself:
"Well then Rimuru, now that the fight is over I will keep watch during the rest of the night, you can take care of the goblins and the wolves now that they submitted to you, if you need help in fighting don't hesitate to ask for help, see you"
as I was scurrying off to the side I heard rimuru's complaints behind me but I ignored them he was the one who said submit to me or die and accepted the goblins loyalty.
Seeing that there was nowhere nowhere to stay and the number of wolves, sure some of them were killed of but that's still, like, eight more mouths to feed, rimuru decided to shelf the problem to the morning.
"I, um… Ah, screw it. That's all for today, people! I'll think about it tomorrow, once everyone wakes up."
For the time being, he ordered the goblins to camp out next to the fire, told the dogs to go on standby around the village, and called it a night.
Morning came.
And rimuru came up with the idea of pairing the goblins and the direwolves together and let them take care of each other.
There was seventy-two goblins left in fighting shape. No casualties from yesterday. At most, a few scratches. Meanwhile, we had eighty-one surviving direwolves parked outside the town fence—some wounded, but none so badly that a little recovery potion didn't prop them right back up. They could've recovered themselves, I reckoned, with their intrinsic healing skills, but rimuru was softhearted.
The morning began with him lining up the goblins who were awake. The children and elderly watched from the side. They couldn't help but stick out, given the lack of any homes to hang out in.
He stood in front the line of goblins and summoned the direwolves. "um, okay from now on I am gonna have you all form pairs and live with each other, all right?"
they didn't have that much of a response to his declaration but nobody outwardly objected his decision so he continued.
"Uh, do you understand what I mean? Like, groups of two, okay? Get to it!"
The moment he finished speaking, the goblins and the direwolves began exchanging glances with whoever was in front of them. Slowly and meekly, they followed his order. They were enemies fighting yesterday and now they will be partners, I am suprised no one show any objection.
It was then that rimuru discovered that nobody has a name at all, how are they supposed to call each other then?
"Elder," rimuru said as the pairing process continuing to unfold "it's too inconvenient for me to refer to you and your people. I'd like to give names to you all. Would that be all right?"
Everyone was shocked when they heard that he will give them names and they kept staring at him, even the non-fighting goblins, clearly thrown by this turn of events.
"Are…are you sure…?" the elder timidly asked.
Was it a big deal to give them names? , rimuru answered the chief that it's alright.
He started with naming the elder "Rigurd" after knowing the his son name was "Rigur" apparently.
"I… I cannot express my gratitude enough," the elder blubbered, "for being granted permission to take on my son's name!" he was very emotional about getting a name, right didn't veldora tell us about named monsters, Is what rimuru doing right now is blessing them, as I was remembering veldora explanation, rimuru continued naming the rest of the goblins.
The goblin scout leader, meanwhile, he named "Rigur", he didn't bother to think of new name the old one was fine. Fine enough that it made him kneel before me in prayer, as if this was the most emotional moment in his life.
So on he went, down the whole line. he also did the rest of the onlookers while at it, having families figure out their names together and coming up with whatever for the orphans and singles in the village.
"Sir Rimuru," the newly christened Rigurd plaintively asked, "we are so, so appreciative of this, but…are… Are you sure?"
"About what?"
"I mean, I am fully aware of the extent of your magical powers, Sir Rimuru, but…providing all of these names in one go… Will you be all right?"
As I though it is not simple naming, looks like he really bestowing a name into thier soul like veldora did to us I asked him if he feels any drain from it but he said that he was fine and continued the naming ceremony.
He then moved on to the direwolves, thier new leader would be the son of the previous one and named him "Ranga" that combines the Japanese characters for storm and fang.
The moment rimuru gave ranga his name I sensed a huge fluctuation of magic energy coming g from rimuru it is as if all the magicules are draining through his body, and then he stopped moving.
I hurried to his side to check on his condition, he didn't respond to me calling him but he was not injured just lacking energy maybe he will be fine If he restores some of it, I decided to wait and see if he could recover on his own before attempting anything.
Initially, the goblins seemed kind of worried about how he fell stone silent, but…somewhere along the line, the question of who had the right to wipe my surface and take care of him almost erupted into violent conflict. What are they doing? I was starting to feel like they were treating rimuru as a magic lamp people could rub for three wishes.
Now that the situation settled down and I wait for rimuru to wake up I began reflecting on what happened lately.
Haaah, I am not sure if I will ever be able to return to my previous world so I stopped thinking about it, now that I recovered my injuries I need two things, The first thing is a body a physical one being in a spiritual body before was normal, but in this world the law that governs Souls while remarkably similar is still a different one, I am afraid that If I suffered a serious wound again it wouldn't be easy to recover without an abundant source of energy like veldora,
The second thing is to recover my strength, while the wolves yesterday was weak I know there are people like veldora in this world who are very powerful, it's only our first week after leaving the and we were already involved in a battle for that I need to try to find a suitable sword maybe there materials that can act as an asauchi here so that I can wield Shingetsu again.
