Chapter 12 - Evolving Monsters

Some time passed since rimuru was knocked out after I confirmed that he is recovering his energy I went to check on the monsters that he named and noticed that some of them began growing, the goblins began to increase in height and gain some muscles they are normally less than 150 cm tall however, they are at least 180 now, and some are still growing.

The Wolves, as well their olive brown fur has turned jet black, giving off a charming shine.

Furthermore, they are now three meters in length. Last I saw them, they were at most, two.

I think this is what veldora called evolution, I remember him mentioning something bout "nameless" and "named monster".

After they were named by rimuru their stats increase and the result-evolution.

So that's why they were so emotional and grateful for the names but, I don't know if rimuru is gonna suffer from permanent reduction in his magic energy stores.

Monster evolution is really quick, it took them only one day to complete the process, rather than growing up, it's probably better to say that they became a different being.

The goblins eyes sparkle in delight, reflecting their profound wisdom, and directed at the females…

What the hell! They actually look feminine!

I couldn't believe it at first but after seeing them evolve myself from little imps to green-skinned humanoids I had to believe they are the same people.

Them went to ask they goblin elder rigurd who doesn't resemble and elderly goblin anymore about their evolution.

According to what Rigurd said, they heard the "Voice of the World".

"This is the great and rare evolution that I've heard legends about!" Is how excited he was when he spoke about it.

It good for them but now that they resemble humans and are easier on the eyes thier lack of clothing has become apparent, Well I am sure that rimuru will think of something when he wakes up for now I must focus on myself.

After checking on the monsters I went a little further from the village and continued to try acquiring new skills, it is the only way I know to increase my energy capacity and repertoire.

Of all the Skills I acquired the more notable ones are Self-Regeneration EX, Flash Step and a new skill I acquired after veldora have me a name and I stabilized my spiritual body, it is called Perfect Memory EX, From what I can tell this new skill allows the soul to return safely from the dead for unlimited amount of time while retaining all its memories.

It works well with Self-Regeneration EX and these two skills are the main reason that I have easier time staying in spirit form without major problems.

From my observations, while common skills can increase my energy it is not something notable, for a sizable increase I need to acquire an Extra Skill, for that I began experimenting on all sorts of techniques suitable in my current form and the only one that showed some promise was a Kidō spell I was able to do in the the past with shingetsu's help, it is called Hadō #63. Raikōhō.

As I try to cast the spell the magicules gather above my hand generating an orb with some lightning sparks, however it quickly fades turning that attack into a normal magic bullet, I felt that the success in casting a kido this time came from the blessing veldora gave me, I will try again with the full incantation while focusing on that feeling again.

"Sprinkled on the bones of the beast! Sharp tower, red crystal, steel ring. Move and become the wind, stop and become the calm. The sound of warring spears fills the empty castle!"

As I was chanting the spell a magic circle tries to form infront of my hand generating an orb of black lightning however It failed midway resulting in an explosion, when I noticed the instability of the spell, I hurriedly activated flash step and escaped the range of the blast.

"That was dangerous, but what was the black lightning, is it because of veldora's blessing?"

I figured that since veldora is called a storm dragon he must have some lightning ability, that is the only way I could think of that explains the success of casting Raikōhō.

However I need a better way to do this, I am trying to acquire a skill not develop a new magic when I don't even know about the basic principles, I focus on the feeling I got from that black lightning and generate a magic bullet in my hand with that image In my head, it didn't work at first but with trial and error for 2 days I finally succeeded in generating a lightning orb and shooting it at a target.

Extra Skill "Dark Thunder" successfully acquired.

"haah hah, That was harder than expected, all that work for one skill it's better be worth it."

After sitting down to restore my energy I began experimenting with the new skill, it became easier to use and is more energy-efficient as well, It is also more controllable in size and force, from a light paralysing jolt to a vaporising thunderclap.

The difference between this skill and the magic I tried earlier it that, while the skill is faster in activating and doesn't need chanting it drains more energy, unlike the spell which gather the surrounding magicules to cast while using minimal amounts of my own as a catalyst.

At least now that I have a new skill I can increase my energy stores.

.

.

And so After three days passed since rimuru was knocked out he finally wakes up.

The worker goblins realizing that he was awake, began congregating around him, they were joined with the direwolves and myself since I was keeping an eye on the village in case something happens.

"Um... Hey, guys? Have you all, like, gotten bigger?"

Noticing the changes that happened to the monsters rimuru was quite suprised, As he was scrutinizing their changes, a huge wolf with a star mark on his forehead called to him "My Master" bellowing in a fluent human tongue "How it elates me to see you well once more!"

I think Rimuru named his Ranga he was the new leader of the wolves, he is the largest of them all a d the strongest, when I learned that he was the previous leader's son i kept an eye on him but looks like he loyal to rimuru.

"Looks like you regained all you energy back, don't be impulsive next time, you may have lost some power permanently"

I warned rimuru after sensing no change in his aura

"Haha, it was going well and I didn't lose much energy at first by naming one by one but when I was naming Ranga I lost all my energy stores and went into Sleep mode."

As I heard rimuru reply I suddenly realized that rimuru only named the leader but the whole pack evolved.

"So, Ranga," rimuru said, "I'm pretty sure I only named you out of the pack, so…how come all the other direwolves evolved, too?"

"My master! We, the direwolves, are both one and all. My brethren and I are connected together—my name is the name of our tribe!"

Huh. So the whole gang evolved together.

After this episode, rimuru began checking the situation of the village, At least they procured food for themselves in the last few days, looks like their intelligence increased with the evolution, the male goblins became hobgoblins and female ones became goblinas, a pretty stupid name if you ask me and lastly the direwolves became Tempest wolves.

The pairs had, much to my surprise, gained the ability to use Thought Communication with each other—goblins who could guide their wolves more surely than the best of jockeys. I couldn't guess how much this improved their combat ability, but previously unbeatable foes were now simply a warm-up for them. This entire mountain of food was the results from the past two days alone.

And Today the whole village was preparing a feast celebrating thier evolution, the end of war and rimuru's recovery.
