Chapter 36 - The Barbarians

" Outsiders are the enemy of humankind, that is what everyone is told right but that may not be true. Haven't you ever suspected this?" Conan asked after Ben and Yelena asked several questions.

" Yes, aren't they the bad guy?" Yelena asked. " I have heard stories about how they had destroyed many human settlements in the past."

" That was just a conflict, you should know the proper history about them."

" Outsiders in the past were the enslaved races of Original clans. One of the past Chosen of Lights freed them from their slavery and brought them to the common world. When humans of the common ground were also being forced into a life of slavery, these outsiders Joined the war against the originals. But after everything was settled, these races who everyone calls outsiders were not able to live peacefully with humans or rather it was humans who pushed them away and considered them animals or beasts. Some humans even hunted the outsiders, the conflict between them was bound to happen. Even today if a war against originals will start the outsiders will fight alongside humans of the common ground." Conan explained everything in brief.

" I never knew such things, why isn't it on the internet?" Ben asked.

" You never tried to search too seriously Ben, I am sure if you try you can find several hidden pieces of evidence about the past."

" So are we going there? Won't they attack us?"

" I have asked Mark, these outsiders are categorised as Barbarians, they almost look like humans but are double the size of a normal human and their skin is also slightly red and black. Mark told me the free city often deals with them and they allow humans to enter their territory as they are not afraid of them."

" I think we should go there," Ben said. " I want to know what they are like."

"... I also think this will be exciting." Yelena had a grin of excitement on her face.

- At the village of Barbarians-

" Ms Lang, We welcome you to our village." A barbarian who was wearing decent clothes spoke. " I am happy that you who had developed a cure for tree demon's infections came to our village to provide your medical services."

" Enough big guy, tell me more about the problem here." A young woman around the age of 18 spoke. She was tall when it came to women among humans but right she was barely compared to the children in the village.

" We were hoping you could help our chieftain, You see one of his legs is not in working condition. That was also the reason why our tribe hadn't joined the fight against the lord level monster in the free city. We have many warriors but without our chieftain, there may be casualties so we need him to fight alongside us."

" I think the free city no longer needs your help." The doctor said, she could see a shocked expression on the big man's face.

" Does that mean you will not help us? We can negotiate." The Barbarian seemed anxious.

" I will treat your boss, that's what I am meant to do as a doctor and an alchemist." She said.

" Are you serious? I am grateful for your decision, please follow these men they will lead you to your accommodations." The man said and left hurriedly. ' I must report the subjugation of Lord level monster to my lord' He thought.

-----

" How can this be? We won't have enough food for ourselves if it's like this." One of the barbarians spoke. They were all standing in front of a throne on which a single barbarian even bigger than the others was sitting. He was wearing the skin of the large monster and a black crown.

" That's right, our tribe will not have food, can't we ask for the human settlement to help us."

" What are you saying? We are warriors, we can not rely on them."

" But–"

" Silence!" A deep threatening voice echoed through the hall. " I, as the chieftain am responsible for this. There are other ways we can get food for ourselves. We also can not just hunt irresponsibly, that would decrease the population of Beasts who are the main source of our food."

" Do you have something in your mind, my lord?"

" We will hunt the territory of wyverns." The chief said. " I will personally lead the squad there, the human had sent us a miraculous healer. I believe in them."

" My lord, we would still not have enough food. So why don't we buy it?" The Barbarian who had greeted the doctor spoke.

" That's not possible, we can not pay them." The other member in the meeting spoke.

" Luca, are you saying we sell out treasures?" The chief was able to guess what one of his advisors said.

" Y–yes my lord."
