Aurora's Pov
The room was quiet, with anxiety induced by tension that only one person could release as Jason's case got worse by morning, the lines on his chest had already spread from his sternum and down to his waist. The skin around them had become dark like they were bruised, redness in some places so deep it almost looked black, like he had been dipped in ink.
His skin was pale, and sweat beaded on his brow, his breathing was sharp, raspy, and labored as he lay on the bed with his eyes shut.
His face was pinched into a tight grimace as I watched him try to stifle down the pain that racked through his body. He seemed to be in agony every time he inhaled or exhaled, which was getting harder as time passed.
I could feel my heart ache for the man lying there, his life was hanging in the balance, and whether he'd make it out of this mess was still undecided.
