Chereads / The Last Seeker Of Kimoptra / Chapter 11 - Chapter Eleven

Chapter 11 - Chapter Eleven

Jason's Pov

As soon as I was able to make a fire from the firewoods we collected from a nearby bush. We sat down close to the fire, opposite each other with no sound from both sides. We were just staring at the fire.

Looking at her face through the burning flame, I could see that her facial expressions no longer show the surprise or shock it expressed after my revelation. It only displayed the look of someone deep in thought, probably processing all that I had said earlier.

"My mother was a patriot to her land and fought alongside many others for the redemption of Kimoptra….

She was willing to give her life for her beloved land but she wasn't ready to sacrifice me along with her" I finally spoke, to break the awkward silence standing as a third person between us ever since I revealed my identity to her.

She looked at me with an inquisitive interest and I smiled, glad to get her attention, as I continued.

"According to all I was told about her, she was just as curious as you were. She also wanted to know how to stop the war and why Lord Khan aimed to eradicate all seekers from existence. She wanted to meet with the oracle but when she discovered that she was pregnant with me she decided against it, knowing the risk that lies in the journey, also since she was the last of the Erasmus tribe and knew that Lord Khan would be hunting for her, she left everything behind and fled to the human world with my father so I would be safe and my existence would be unknown."

I paused and shifted my attention back to the burning fire, with the effect of the heat on my body making my mind travel back to the fire that took her life. I wonder how it must have been for her to experience such excruciating pain from the blazing inferno.

"Umm, why...do you refer to her as in the past?" Peeling off my eyes from the fire to look up at the violent ones that stared curiously at me, I gave her my answer saying, "She died in a fire outbreak.'' Before returning my gaze to the fire that was now burning down, and so I added more wood.

"I'm sorry about that." Her voice held much sincerity as she spoke.

"You don't need to be, I was just a baby when it happened." As much as I wanted my voice to sound as calm as possible, it ended up sounding so cold and empty.

And the more I stared at the fire, I was only reminded of the pain of not having her by my side all these years, the pain of having to grow up without her being in my life.

I was completely absorbed in my emotions that I didn't even notice when Aurora stood up from her side and came to sit with me until I felt her hand slide over my arm.

My head immediately snapped to the side, facing her eyes that seemed to shine brighter than the light from the burning fire that radiated around the cave.

Her touch sent pleasurable sparks flying through my arm and even to other parts of my body.

It was soothing and calmed my aching heart but almost immediately she retreated it, her cheek slightly turning red as she looked away obviously embarrassed and I smiled, amused by her actions.

She fiddled with her fingers, as she stared at a crack in the ground and I couldn't help but feel a little bit of jealousy knowing that she was more comfortable looking at it than at me.

"You know, I don't mind you touching me."

I said, revealing the cocky side of me.

I could see her blush deepen at my words, but her eyes still did not leave the crack in the ground.

While her touch made me feel at ease, the animal in me felt aroused by it and craved something more than her touch.

Now I understood my attraction to her, understanding that I wasn't just attracted to her because of her beauty and that she never bewitched me into feeling hurt for her whenever she cried,

It was all because of the mate bond.

The mate bond made me feel things I couldn't explain or understand.

But the thought of having to eventually let her go made my wolf whimper in pain and so I looked away from her, trying to ignore my wolf but her voice suddenly brought me back to her face.

"About what I said earlier, I'm sorry, but I don't think I can leave anymore."

"What do you mean?" I ask, my brows furrow together, confused by her words.

Licking the bottom of her lips, her hands twitched weirdly as she gradually brought her eyes to meet mine. "I know that I promised to listen to you if you were to give me answers but knowing that you are the one born of the last seeker and that you are what Kimoptra needs for her restoration, I can not leave this place without you, It's simply not possible."

I closed my eyes for a bit, opening them and hoping that she wouldn't make a fuss over this matter as I tried talking her out of her decision of not wanting to leave without me.

"Aurora I can't come along with you to Kimoptra and you also can not stay here," I say to her, but she presses her lips into a thin line, shaking her head in disapproval.

"But why?" She asked, her voice was soft but demanding and sounded more like a whisper.

I ran a hand through my hair, already missing the silence that had left us and getting tired of her stubborn behavior.

We were so good a couple of minutes ago and now she has ruined everything by putting up another tantrum.

There was no way Dad would allow me to go with her to Kimoptra without hunting us down and eventually doing something irrational when he finds us.

She was much safer there, at least with the rebels than being here with me, but I just don't know why she simply can't understand that.

"You could end the war your mother had always wanted to end, you could save thousands from dying, you could…."

"Enough!" I whisper-yelled, cutting her off,

while she flinched under the tone of my voice as it echoed around the cave.

"Stop it, you are scaring her." My wolf said, feeling pity for her.

"Then maybe that would help in making her leave," I replied and he growled at me before I shoved him to the back of my mind.

"I'm not going anywhere without you." She muttered, looking at me indifferently as she tried masking up the fear I saw in her eyes.

"Do you have a death wish, Aurora?" I ask, intentionally in a dangerously low tone and the cave suddenly went quiet after that.
