Chapter 17 - Chapter Seventeen

Aurora's Pov

Returning to the house with all four of them, I didn't know what to expect especially with Nina's sudden show up.

There were so many questions on my mind.

Like why was she here?

Was she also sent here by the oracle?

And why did she speak to Jason and his father like she was very familiar with them?

I just couldn't wait to pour out the questions I had for her but I had to wait, because immediately after we got here, she excused herself and just disappeared somewhere in the house.

I sat still on the couch trying to keep my mind in order, watching as Gieon went into the kitchen and some minutes later he came out with two mugs on a stainless steel silver tray.

Handing a mug out to Jason who sat opposite me first, he then came over to me and said, "Here…...drink this, you'll feel warm." At that point did I only notice that I was shivering.

But judging from the little time I've stayed here, I understand Gieon's behavior. He wasn't someone who you could easily see through his facial expression but I could have sworn I saw something flash through those blue-gray eyes of his.

Something like regret.

But Why?

"Are you okay?"Jason asked, interrupting my thoughts as he took a seat next to me on the couch. The softness in his voice made my stomach lurch a bit and I turned my gaze away from him but returned it as quickly as possible, when my eyes met with fierce oceanic blue eyes, staring intensely at me with his body leaning on the entrance door.

Hoping that Jason didn't see how hard my hands were shaking or my mouth was trembling as well, I replied "Yeah, I'm fine."

trying to maintain my focus only on him and ignoring his father's murderous glare.

He studied my eyes for another moment,  searching for something or perhaps for some kind of indication of whether I was telling the truth or not before finally, sighing heavily.

"Are you sure,…...you don't look good?" He said and leaned closer towards me until our noses almost touched.

His breath on my face sent chills throughout my body.

And there it was. That spark again. That feeling within my chest.

My heart was pounding so loud against my ribcage that I thought it would somehow force its way out through my chest.

It was so tempting to let myself go, just to feel something more than this overwhelming sense of fear that has taken over my entire being.

I wanted to close my eyes and just let myself sink into his scent, his warmth, his touch, and forget everything else.

But instead of giving in, I pulled back.

"I'm fine, it's just the cold." I lied,

while I take a sip of the steaming beverage in my hands to calm my jittery nerves.

"You sure? " He asked again while giving me a side glance and I gave him a weak smile and nodded yes before taking yet another sip.

I knew that his actions were mainly prompted by the mate bond yet I wanted him to stop with the questions and affection, cause it almost felt like his father was irritated by it as I heard him scoff with a grimace on his face.

"I love this," I told him, trying to change the subject before I had a nervous breakdown as I put the cup down. "I've never actually had this before," I added, turning towards Gieon, who stood behind us as he smiled slightly.

But somehow Jason seemed unfazed by my statement as if he wasn't interested at all. Instead, a slight frown was written on his features as he looked over at his father who had the same expression written all over his face.

Suddenly he reached out for my hand that was on the couch giving it a light squeeze while saying "Come, let's get you somewhere warmer."

I instantly got off the couch and followed him, silently without any complaint and leaving my empty mug there on the table.

"I need to speak to Nina….that woman," I say, as soon as we entered a room I presumed to be his, and took a seat on the bed.

Jason sighed and closed the door behind himself. What about?" He asks, crossing his arms on his chest and raising an eyebrow, before walking back over to me.

"About everything. Why is she here? How did she know I was here? And what is going to happen next?" I answered simply which earned me a groan of disapproval.

"But she said she had answers and promised to give them as soon as we came back to this house," I said, trying to sound convincing.

"Do you trust her?" He asks, suddenly looking down at me.

"She was one of the rebels who saved me when I passed out in Tiral, land of the dead," I said, reminding him and he nodded his head in acknowledgment.

"Okay, but do you believe that she's trustworthy?"

This time I let my gaze wander around the dimly lit room for a second while contemplating the question that Jason posed, "Yes." That was what I decided to answer, eventually making Jason let out a deep exhale.

"Look," he said, sitting down beside me and grabbing my hand again. "I know you want to leave this place as soon as possible but I think you shouldn't rush things. So how about, for now, you just relax." With these last words, he let out an exasperated sigh and ran a hand through his hair.

And despite how much he's trying to hide his true feelings I can clearly see the frustration that's boiling inside of him.

"Just give it some time."

And as he said this he got up and walked over to the door again.

"And you're not allowed to go anywhere unless you're with me. Got it?" He turns his attention to me and smiles at me.

"Got It,"  I replied as I watched him walk back out of the room, closing the door softly behind him and turning the lock.

With nothing left to do I lay down on the bed,  letting out a small moan escaping from my lips when I felt the soft mattress.

The bed is too comfy, my mind starts thinking, but before I can even contemplate that a yawn escapes from my lips.

I pull the blanket with me along with a pillow to rest my head on while snuggling deeper into the blanket.

I can already feel my eyes getting heavy, but the warmth surrounding me stops me from drifting off completely. As I try to fight my sleepiness, my thoughts begin to wander to different places, as memories of times long ago flashed across my mind.  My eyes flutter closed as I sink further into the embrace of the warm, inviting blanket before finally giving up to exhaustion and falling asleep.
