Chapter 97 - Advance and Secure I

*DUKDUKDUKDUKDUKDUKDUKDUK* *PSHHHHH*

The tank slid to a stop as it continued firing upon the enemy positions. I was standing on the left side of the exit as the ramp opened facing away from the enemy. A crucial part of our strategy was that the tanks provide cover for the infantry within.

I waved my right-hand forwards as I looked upon the two-dozen infantry before me. "MOVE OUT!"

I then hopped forwards, grabbing the top of the door frame. Using my momentum, I swung my legs forward and flipped upwards, landing on top of the tank.

As I landed, I looked forwards and paused for a moment upon seeing the wave of blaster bolts soaring towards us.

I quickly reached down with my right hand and pulled out a lightsaber, igniting it without skipping a beat.

*PNK* *PNK* *PNK*

The violet blade snaked through the air, intercepting and deflecting over a dozen blaster bolts in just as many seconds. Each shot was redirected harmlessly into the ground.

I sighed. I couldn't tap into that state of heightened awareness that had struck me earlier. It was at this moment that I decided that I needed to step away from the battlefield for some time and focus on my training. I needed to develop my lightsaber skills and hone my connection with the force.

The force lives and breathes. It is not some tool. I needed to deepen my relationship and work with it.

Suddenly, my trusty partner pulled my attention in a direction that was slightly to the right of where I had been looking. My eyes landed on a watchtower. In the nest at the top, I found a man aiming a rocket launcher towards my tank. How dare he?!

*PSHH*

The rocket was launched and began its flight through the air towards its target. I waved my empty left hand, sending the rocket crashing into the ground.

*BCHHHH*

With the explosion still raging, I lunged forwards and hopped off the tank. Upon hitting the ground, I bent my legs and leaned forwards before pushing off the ground and launching myself forwards. There was no wall at this FOB so how could I not just invite myself in?

*PNK* *PNK*

I continued deflecting the endless stream of blaster bolts that raced towards me. Despite the satisfying feeling of sending away each shot, I could still feel each and every time one of my allies was hit. Although only a few of us had died by the time we reached the FOB, their desperation greatly impacted me.

*BVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV*

The tank pulled away with a domineering roar. It was off to retrieve more infantry and supplies.

I refocused my eyes as I approached the tower. The man holding the launcher had just finished loading another rocket and was preparing to fire.

Sprinting along the side of the tower, I sliced through the legs with my lightsaber.

*CHH*

The tower buckled, beginning to fall to the ground.

*PSHHHHHHH*

The rocket, despite being fired, soared through the air and went off into the distance. The eventual explosion didn't even make a sound as it landed harmlessly in the endless plains.

Three enemies jumped out of the tower as it fell, hoping for a softer landing outside of the falling structure.

I rushed towards them, quickly targeting the one that was first to get up.

*PSHH*

My lightsaber ate through his spine as I slashed up through his back. His corpse fell lifelessly to the ground. A second one turned over on the ground, sitting up as he raised his blaster towards me.

*BYUM*

Instinctively, I dropped my left shoulder and twisted my torso, effortlessly dodging the blaster bolt. I then reached out with my empty left hand and pulled on his blaster using the force. It was easily removed from his hands and clattered across the ground.

I slowly walked towards him, observing the obvious fear in his eyes. A hint of anger escaped my mind, quickly flowing through my veins and making me feel a great deal of power.

*HMPH*

I huffed a burst of air from my nose, snuffing out the ember before it could trigger an inferno of rage.

*PSH*

With the anger gone, I emotionlessly relieve him of his head. I then walked over to the last one that remained on the ground. He was writhing in pain and holding his arm. He must have been injured upon hitting the ground.

*PSH* *Shyup*

I drove my lightsaber through his back, quickly ending his life without suffering. I was curious where these people would respawn. I just hoped it wouldn't be inside this FOB. It didn't matter much anyways as they would be in a weakened state for some time after reviving.

I tapped on my wrist comm, opening the command channel. "Infantry, I need a SITREP."

*BOOM*

This was war. Explosions were being set off left and right, littering the ground with scorch marks and craters. The endless torrent of blaster bolts traveling in two directions provided a constant reminder of the dangers about.

After several seconds, Rachel replied. "We have completely taken the outer areas. After securing our positions, we'll take the rest."

I smiled. "Good. Let's keep it up."

After that quick conversation, I rushed towards the central areas. I quickly found a mid-sized prefab building. I walked up to the door and heard several panicked voices coming from inside.

I pulled out my blaster pistol and leaned against the door frame. Two sets of footsteps rushed up and stopped behind me. Glancing back, I found two of my guild mates.

The one closest to me had short black hair, brown eyes, and dark brown skin. While he had no notable features, his face was weirdly memorable. He wore grey combat armor with a white ANV logo on his chest.

The second guild member had messy blond hair that had been scattered all over his face. He had green eyes and pasty white skin. He wore combat armor that was painted with a forest camo.

I nodded towards them and whispered. "Help is always welcome."

With my blaster in my right hand and a lightsaber in my left, I nodded my head three times to count down.

*BYUM*

I pulled the trigger, destroying the door handle and causing the door to become loose on its hinges. Then, I strafed to my right, kicking the door open with my foot before aiming my blaster inside. Without even thinking, I aimed at the first thing that moved and pulled the trigger three more times.

I then strafed again, moving behind the other side of the door frame. The first guild member leaned around the corner with his rifle and let two shots fly before pulling back in a panic.

Milliseconds passed before several shots flew through the open door, barely missing my guildmate.

I watched the second guild member pull a small sphere from his belt and press a button on it. We made eye contact before he rolled it through the door.

*PANG*

The flash bang went off, blinding everyone inside and casting a briefly lived shadow on the ground outside. I flew around the corner, quickly followed by the first guild member.

*BYUM* *BYUM* *BYUM*

I took one shot while my guildmate took two. With a few dull thuds, our enemies fell to the ground.

After a quick scan of the room with my eyes, I relaxed a bit. "Clear!"

The first guild member did the same. "CLEAR!"

I walked over to the two of them, who were both inside now, and held out my fist. Each of them bumped it in turn and we nodded. "Names?"

Both of them quickly stiffened up and stood at attention. The first guild member replied. "Sergeant Mahmud Amir."

The second did the same. "Corporal Lloyd Brooks."

I nodded. "Two members, impressive. I'm assuming the both of you know who I am?"

They both nodded and I smiled wryly. At this point, just about every guild member involved with this operation knew about me. "Alright. The two of you are with me. Let's move."
