Chapter 98 - Advance and Secure II

-10:32 AM-

*BOOOOOOOOOOM*

With a flash of light, a gargantuan plume of smoke rose into the air to our South. The ground we stood upon shook violently from the explosion. Did a generator get hit? All I hoped was that it wasn't one of my precious tanks.

I pressed on my wrist comm and whispered through the local channel. "Breach."

*Bboomm*

Almost instantly, two small blasts went off in rapid successions. The doors were gone.

*BYUM* *BYUM* *BYUM*

My two squad mates quickly opened fire on the enemies inside this building.

*Bvvvvv*

In turn, I ignited both of my lightsabers, their purple glow and signature hum hanging in the air. I twirled them in my hands, switching to a reverse grip.

*Pshhhhhhht*

Pushing them down, I let the blades of pure energy eat through the roof, cutting a circular hole as I spun around. As soon as I finished a 180-degree spin, the roof gave in.

*PANG*

The piece of composite upon which I stood smacked the ground in the center of the room. I ended up down on my right knee, one of my lightsabers held in front of me while the other was behind.

I quickly put my head on a swivel, taking in my surroundings. After a quick count, there were 12 still standing, all of them looking towards the doors.

Well, that quickly changed as they all turned towards me. Fortunately, my trusty allies had good timing.

*BBBYUUMM*

They both flew through their respective door frames and began relentlessly squeezing their triggers. Our enemies were dropping like flies.

Using my planted foot, I pushed off and flipped over the closest enemy to me, relieving him of his head as I passed through the air. As I landed, I swapped back to a forward grip and waved my lightsaber, blocking a blaster bolt in turn.

After blocking another blast bolt, I broke into a sprint towards the largest cluster of enemies. I passed by one on my right and swiped my lightsaber through his chest. At the same time, I waved my other saber, deflecting a blaster bolt into the face of another enemy.

I changed directions, moving towards another as I dropped my head to the left. I felt the hairs in my ear singe as a blaster bolt missed my head by mere fractions of an inch. As I ran, I bisected one more enemy and then leapt through the air.

My trajectory brough me right to his face which I smashed with my right knee. I landed on the ground, swapped both lightsabers to a reverse grip, and skewered the man.

I deactivated my lightsabers and clipped them to my belt as I looked around the room. Every officer at this base was now dead.

Sighing, I started walking towards the door. "2 down, 7 to go."

Glancing at Mahmud and Lloyd, I nodded my head towards the door. "Let's move. These FOBs won't capture themselves."

Based on drone surveillance, there were a total of 9 enemy positions. So far, we have captured 2 of them.

Sirius suddenly contacted me over our private channel. "Objective B complete. Moving to objective C."

Well, make that 3 of them…

Anyways, we formed a 16x16 reference grid with each square being 5 miles on each side. Letters were on the X axis and numbers were on the Y axis.

The mountain caves where we started were on B2 and our original base before the attack was on F5. The enemy positions were located in B5, F3, F5, F8 across the river, G13, J5, K11, M7, and O15. That last one appeared to be getting rapidly fortified with heavy equipment.

Our next objective was to take back ANV main base at F5. Alpha squad has already taken F8, so we don't need to worry about them getting reinforcements. Other than that, we have taken B5 and F3.

As I walked through our newly acquired base, I watched our stolen logistics transports pull in and unload with impressive efficiency. Violet really had this stuff down.

I opened the command channel. "Vi, how are we on numbers?"

She quickly replied. "We have excess supplies, but our manned coverage is thinning."

I sighed. "We are going to have to leave skeleton crews at each FOB. Our manpower problem won't be solved until we get rid of whatever is jamming our comms."

Rachel suddenly interjected. "I believe we should move our backline up to ANV main once we retake it. This would solve the stretching problem since I highly doubt that they will attack the caves again. Too many of their resources are either neutralized or occupied with their fortifications."

I smiled and nodded. "Let's do just that. Move out in five minutes."

I continued walking and then found a quiet area. No one was over here so it was just what I needed, a little slice of peace within this war zone. Getting down on the ground, I crossed my legs and rested my hands on my knees.

As I taught my padawan, meditation is crucial to staying grounded as a Jedi. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, held for a few seconds, and then slowly let it out. With my focus on my breathing, everything else faded away.

Like a vacuum, something had to fill the space. Scenes of fighting filled my mind. However, it wasn't the violence I was focused on. Rather, my focus was on the emblem of three trees that was on each of their chests.

It stuck out in these memories and visions. Something was pulling me to it. There was more than met the eye. It was complex and much deeper than it seems.

This was no simple resource war. It felt more personal. It was almost as if someone or something in my guild was the motivation for this strike. What could it be?

A voice pulled me out of my meditation. "Sir, it is almost time."

I opened my eyes and saw Mahmud standing a few feet away from me. I nodded. "Alright. Let's load up."
