Chapter 48 - Chapter 48

Coming back to the present, she looked up and found one of the guards looking at her weirdly, and she smiled widely at him with a little hand wave. The man then looked down embarrassingly when he got caught.

In Amber's mind, she cursed the fool for gawking at her, saying he could only look and not touch. She turned her head to look at the opposite room and smirked, knowing who it was inside the room.

The girls stood outside for close to forty minutes and still went no instruction that they should get back inside. Amber had to pretend to be desperate to get back in there. So, she turned to the girl next to her " Aleen, is this what usually happens? I thought we would enter, have some fun, and get paid. You guys talking about how they were generous with tips." She was loud enough to get the guards to listen in on her little talk.

With the reaction that she got from not only Aleen but the other girls, she believed she had done it too smoothly.

"I also don't know what it was that was happening. Maybe we won't be getting any tips today. I really need the extra money," Said the girl who had now squatted down. Their legs were tired because they had stood outside the room for too long.

As the girls lamented, Mr. Harold walked in their direction as if to come and check on how they were behaving. "What is happening? Why are you all outside?" He asked as soon as he came closer, but all the girls shook their heads. So, he turned to look at the guards as if they would give him an answer.

When Mr. Harold saw that none of the girls were saying anything, he decided in his stupid mind that he could get in. "Let me go in and check since no one is saying anything."

As soon as he had touched the door handle, the guard standing the closest to the door pushed him back, making him stagger and knock his back on the opposite bank.

'He was weak for a big man,' Amber thought as she giggled. The girls who had tried to keep a straight face joined in on the fun and laughed all at once. It was such a sight to watch a man like Mr. Harold be pushed a round.

He glared at the girls, who later shut their mouths out of fear, but their eyes still held amusement. "It is not funny," He warned, then turned to the guards. "This is my restaurant; I am the manager" Then turned and left.

Mr. Harold felt really embarrassed after he was pushed like that. However, what made him feel worse was that he couldn't do anything after being embarrassed. He took his anger to the kitchen staff, making them look at him like a headless chicken.

"Is it really his restaurant?" asked Aleen. The guards let them talk freely, as long as they were not discussing their boss.

The girl was squatting and stood up to come closer to the gossip center. "Are you seriously asking that question? Have you heard of any businessmen with Harold as a surname?" She definitely didn't like Mr. Harold one bit the way her eyes were shining.

Money was one thing that held people in stagnant situations. With a boss like Mr. Harold, who treated most of them like rugs, it would take a lot for someone to not hold a grudge. He said how hard it could hit someone and still expected to be treated like a king. He definitely knew nothing about treating employees.

"Suzie is so right about that. With Mr. Harold's ugly fashion sense, he would wear a golden crown on his head if he had all that money," Commented another girl.

"Such a show-off. I am happy that someone at least made him feel the same way he makes us feel every day," Echoed Aleen.

The girls started giggling again after being reminded of Mr. Harold's embarrassed look earlier. He sure did deserve it since no one even bothered to utter a simply sorry to him. Instead, he was nosy as his big tummy continuously protruded due to greed.

Amber believed that with almost an hour they had spent standing outside the door, enough information had been collected. With that being that way, she knew that her journey at the Grand Palate had ended.

As she celebrated her little victory in her head, she heard the sound of her phone. She reached out in her skirt pocket to pick it up and looked up to find all the girls looking at her. They were told to leave their phones in their lockers or turn them off.

"Oh, sorry, I forgot to turn it off," She said awkwardly. Checking her phone and found that it was a message from Cross. 'Time to go home

She pretended to frown at the message till one of the girls asked what was wrong. "It's my greedy boyfriend? First, I had to tell him about being selected among the special girls to attend to the VIP guests, and now he is asking for my money. He is always gambling all my hard-earned money away."

All the girls looked at her pitifully because most of them knew how it was to date useless parasites, but they couldn't blame her. Love was one magic wand that had time-controlled some, if not all, of them.

"Marcos," Came to a voice from inside.

Amber looked up to see who Marco was but saw one of the guards opening the door to get in. She remembered Marcos, who was killed a month ago. He was a close friend to Daniel, so she got to know him too. Hearing his name again left a bitter feeling in her heart.

"Please come in," Said Marcos after he had come back out.
