The two settled their bill and went to pick up the car from the front, and Cross went to the back to meet Amber. He looked at her and just shook his head with a tiny smile.
Amber could only guess that they heard what she had said at the way Cross was looking at her. "I am not pregnant," She blurted out to defend herself.
"I didn't say anything," Cross responded.
"For someone who rarely smiled, you surely know to pick when to do it," Amber mocked
Cross, who wanted to make a comeback, decided against it when he saw Andy drive close to them. The two got in, and Andy couldn't help but look at Amber through the rare view mirror. He lowered his eyes back to the road when Amber caught his eye.
Daniel, who had been delayed on his way back due to traffic, breathed another sigh of relief when he got a message from Cross saying that they were on their way back from the restaurant. He was happy and couldn't wait to meet his mate. She had really worked hard, but he needed to give the Alpha a report about his meeting with Mr. Maxwel.
Daniel found Alex behind his desk reading documents when he got to Alex's office. "Alpha," He bowed.
Alex looked at him in warmth. He had warned them to be cautious of how they addressed him, especially around his employees. Alex's female secretary was a human, and he didn't want issues to arise.
"Sorry, Mr. Ford," Daniel apologized.
"I believe you brought me the outcome of Amber's mission. right?" Alex couldn't wait any longer
"Not really, I am coming from the North" Alex, who had forgotten, looked up at Daniel. He left his seat to come to the couch opposite Daniel.
"Sorry, man, I just have too much on my mind now. How was it?" He was apologetic to Daniel, looking at how his friend was tired.
Daniel could tell that seeing Chris again had left the Alpha thinking a lot, but there was nothing he could do about it. Chris was more than an employee to Alex, and it would take some time for it to return to how it was.
Daniel Alex about his discussion with Mr. Maxwell and how it ended the same way it did. "I almost broke the old man's jaw."
"He might have really provoked you then" Alex knew Daniel not to be disrespectful, but he wouldn't take disrespect thrown his way.
"I believe the land belongs to the old man just in name. Someone is pulling the strings to keep us away from the land. For whatever reason, I am still not sure. That person was smart in that move, too; he bought the land in the middle because he knows that we couldn't do anything about the surrounding area if we didn't have the middle one."
Alex agreed with Daniel on that statement. He wanted to believe that the hunters were provoking him, but he was doubtful.
"Are you thinking what I am thinking?" Daniel looked at his Alpha, and they both gave each other that knowing look.
The two men concluded that whoever was behind the proposal issue three years ago must be the one behind the land too. According to them, the hunters might hate them but not enough to do things so openly.
"It could still be them. No one has been able to challenge the wolves as much as the hunters had done over the years" Daniel tried not to eliminate the hunters from the equation.
"I am yet to pay them back for the stupidity that they had displayed with Lawson. But, it would be foolish of them to dig another grave because eventually, they would end up in it" Alex had had enough with the hunters.
"Are you forgetting what they had done ten years ago?"
What the hunters had done ten years ago was indeed their blunder. The wolves had been pushed so hard to the point where they hated the very air that they breathed.
"I think we have been too lenient on the hunters; it's high time we clapped back. They might think that we are so weak for not retaliating" Daniel felt no pressure about being in the public eye, and he wasn't afraid to shed some blood.
Alex could agree with his beta because even during the sweep, they only killed one human, and the other got arrested after he had taken Malia hostage. So they killed their won and left the humans. He knows how that might have looked to the wolves.
A knock sounded outside the door, and Alex called the person to come in. Arnold came, greeted the two, and later pulled out the flash disc. He told them that it contained files about the information about whatever had transpired at the Grandier Palace.
"Bring my laptop," Alex said while pointing his laptop on the table. Daniel brought it and then placed it on the table before Alex. He then maneuvered the keys as he found the audio file and clicked on it.
'How are you doing, Mr. Johnson' The audio started making Alex and Daniel look at each other.
'I can't complain, Mr. Lambert. Thanks to you three years ago, my daughter and I are living in luxuries,' Mr. Johnson responded.
'More like you should thank the stupid Alexander Basil Ford. Three years down, and he still hasn't caught on,' Said Lambert.
The room temperature dropped to zero percent because of Alex, whose anger had shot so high that he had growled. Thankful for the soundproof walls in Alex's office after the loud growl.
"I want his head in a box."
