The city of Hiroshima was one of the pillars that supported the entire Empire of Japan in its conquest with world domination.
It was the headquarters of the 59th Army, the 5th Division and the 224th Division. Five 70mm Batteries along with 80mm Anti-Aircraft guns from the 3rd Anti-Aircraft Division guarded the entire city from enemy aerial attacks.
As if that wasn't enough, it also housed the 121st, 122nd Anti-Aircraft Regiments along with the 22nd and the 45th Separate Anti-Aircraft Battalions.
In all, around forty thousand military personnel were stationed within the city. The huge city supported a vast war industry and acted as a supply and logistics base for the Empire.
Despite this the city had been spared from the aerial bombardments from the Allied forces. As for the reason behind this, it was a mystery.
But everything would change soon.
