Chapter 37 - Settling their differences

He finally said something that pulled Liam out of his calculated thoughts.

"That is crazy. I am myself. I think and talk as me even with my vision red," Liam argued strongly.

"Yeah, I never said you were someone else," the man said waving his hand with a defeated smile.

"No, you just said I was you," Liam hissed raking through his hair with his fingers and exhaling tiredly.

"You are a douchebag," the man concluded shaking his head. "I am tired of talking to you boy. It is your fault that I cannot explain this in a better way."

". . ." Liam narrowed his eyes feeling offended as he tried to come up with something right to tell this demonized being who claimed to be him.

"I know all about you because you and I are one. I know you came from another dimension, as you chose to call it. Your thoughts are filled with so much computer stuff. I was born when you moved into this body," the man tried with difficulty to explain their situation to Liam.

He paused and scratched his head thoughtfully before adjusting the long dark brown hair.

"You leave me so confused," the man concluded looking away.

"Do you have a way for you to leave my body? I don't like the thought of being possessed by a demon or monster who calls me a douchebag."

"I see the reason why we don't get along. I am totally you and you are me. Why can't you accept the fact? If I leave, you will die and if you leave, I will die."

"I will call you a parasite then," Liam came up with a satisfying conclusion that had him smiling.

"Don't call me that. I know very well what that means," the man warned displeased with a slight frown.

"I don't care."

"I am not living off you, rather I am the reason you have lived on for so long. You would have died in that mass grave ten times over. I wish it was not so difficult to get along with you when we meet like this because when we are together, it is easier.

"I also know you are a nice guy and you could not kill anything even an ant. I am the tough side of you, do you understand now?"

Liam was sincerely trying to process all the man was saying to him but at the end of the long speech, he found himself at a dead-end in his thoughts. It felt so frustrating because he was trying so hard to give a rational explanation to it all.

A tough hand touched his shoulder making him flinch. "I know you are trying and there is no need for you to do so. There is so much you cannot understand in this world and there is no need to try. We just have to try to survive more of such attacks and start by surviving this one we got ourselves into."

"Are we dying?" Liam asked.

"It is okay. I don't know how it will all end and why we are locked in her but we will figure it out even if we have to dig our way out of here," the man replied.

Liam paused and looked at the man shocked. Why was the man saying what he was thinking at this moment? It felt like listening to your thoughts speak to you in a monster form.

The first half of their meeting ended with Liam being the bad and negative thoughts but during the second half, Liam became curious and good thoughts.

It felt like asking yourself about yourself but it felt a lot different because this thought of his, was a violet-looking monster almost a couple of feet taller than him with so much humor it reminded him of himself before the world ended.

Before they announced the arrival of visitors from the space that will bring an end to this world, Liam was that guy who everyone felt was cool to get along with.

There were a few people who did not like him but they were none of his business because he was surrounded by people who liked him for many reasons and his cool sense of humor was one of the reasons they liked him.

He was not a very good boy and he would never let anyone treat him in any way he does not appreciate even if it meant he has to leave a mark on the person's body.

His mother once told him he was the best thing that happened to her, so good she sometimes wonder where he got it all from.

She called him a congenial person. He did not know the meaning and did not bother to find out because the first part of it said it all.

"You must miss home a lot," the man murmured.

"Yes, I do," Liam answered sincerely he was surprised by his frankness.

"You could go back to being that cool boy you used to be. I will do the bad part of it all. The world ended and your family members are gone and you are alone but that does not mean you cannot have fun."

Liam nodded in agreement as he looked at the hole above his head that allowed light into the cave. "I wish I believed that man long enough to save their lives, my family, and my friends."

The man gave him a friendly pat on his shoulder before advising him, "You have a new life now, you've got to live it and make sure you don't die."

Liam shook his head with a small smile. He was still trying to get used to it all. The man was simply speaking the thoughts at the tip of his tongue.

"By the way how do you know how to fight?" Liam asked curiously as they began looking for a way out of the cave at all costs.

"You seem to have watched a lot of action movies. I am smart so it was easy to copy," the man boasted with a smug expression that had Liam looking away immediately. This monster-man had to be him as he was not a humble person at all.

"That is almost impossible," Liam told the man in disbelief.

"You said almost not totally. We have to get out of here or we will die."

Liam tapped the rough wall of the cave and placed his ear on it. He tapped again and listened. He continued until he had completed a circle around the cave.

"You can break it down, after all, you are strong, those arms should be able to do a good job it is not so thick."

The man paused with a look that told Liam he was simply being ridiculous.

"I am serious. I am the smart one," Liam assured him firmly.
