Alphonse stared at the golden decorations decorating the North Hall. He had always been told not to enter this place. It was one of the few areas of the palace that remained under heavy guard, yet today his parents had escorted him here.
They said that he was to complete his rites as a child of the royal family. He didn't quite understand what that meant, but his mother said that he didn't need to worry about it.
"Al, just walk through the doorway. It's not scary," his sister, Lise, encouraged him.
Standing behind him were the scary elf man and the beautiful light blue haired lady his mother often had tea with. In her arms was the baby that his mother said he would need to protect in the future.
He wondered how he could possibly protect someone. He was only five! As he stared through the doorway with ornate carvings, he felt something within him call out.
