"Red, you have got to hang in there."
Eva raced down the dirt road until she reached the town from before. She kicked open the door to the room they had stayed in previously and carefully laid Red on a sack of flour. It wasn't much, but it was at least more comfortable than the stone floor.
She only left his side for a moment in order to shove something heavy in front of the door. Quickly she fell to her knees and brushed the fur back on Red's brow. His whole body felt hotter than usual and she began to worry that he might not make it after all.
He was still purring in broken bursts trying to heal himself. If only Lucas were here. He could heal Red better than her. She was sure of it.
'You stupid girl! You are supposed to be independent of him. He is not a part of your future anymore!'
