Chapter 2 - Episode 2: Monsters

Blood as far as the eye could see almost a sea of it comprises all I can see.

The smell of iron and the image of a beautiful moon reflects on the crimson sea. In the distance a man stands on a mountain of lifeless bodies he turns to me and says something, though I see his mouth moving I can't make out his words, a sadness stabs my heart but I don't know this man or his words but tears run down my face uncontrollably. Two loud knocks break the sadness.

Don quickly jumps up from his bed. "That dream again?" Don's thoughts pull him into another trance for a second. "It's been that same dream every night for the past week. Who is that man?" Two more loud knocks again break him from his trance.

"Don wake up, it's time for your last lesson before the exam."

Don looks over at the alarm clock that sat on the nightstand next to his bed. The clock says six am. "Yea yea, I'm coming. Let me get dressed."

I've been staying here in this apartment for the last two weeks ever since I agreed to become an Inquisitor. That damn bastard after I agreed he just throw me on a plane less than an hour, after my fight with Rollo. We went straight to America and moved me into this place within a day. It was overwhelming.

"Don let's go. I'm getting bored."

Don frowns, looking at the door before he walks over and opens it. The man standing behind the door gives Don a mischievous smile. His cross earrings dangled as he slightly turned his head. "There you are Don. I was getting worried that you might have run away."

Don's frown is almost pulsing with anger as he thought to himself. This bastard is the Inquisitor who dragged me here. His name is Bishop Sable. From what I can tell, his childish personality causes his partner endless grief. "Sable can we just get this over with."

Sable's smile magnifies. "Of course, my sweet student." Sable walks into the room and sits down at the table in the middle of the room. Don shortly follows and takes a seat across from him.

'Sable has been teaching me all about demons, Inquisitors, and my power. The power I wield is apparently called a Miracle. There are three types of Miracles, the first is Inherent Miracles which are powers transferred down through the ages. We usually see these Miracles in fiction and history such as Zeus Lightning, Hermies speed, and Hercules's strength. The Second is Miracle Artifacts. Powers that lie within an object or weapon such as Thor's hammer, Excalibur, or Odin's spear. The last Miracle is the one I possess. Manifested Miracles powers that manifest in strong-willed people in situations that they need to survive. These powers are the most common among Miracle users. They can take any form depending on the situation the user was in during the creation of the Miracle. The user's personality is also accounted for by what power that's created. No one knows why Miracles exist. However, these powers have the capabilities of killing demons.'

"Don, what more can I teach you?"

Don's frown rages like a fire. "Sable, you said that this exam I'm entering is gonna have people from all over the world taking part, yet I don't know a single thing about this exam!"

Sable looks blankly at Don. "Oh, right, I guess I forgot about that."

Don's rage is now at the boiling point. "WHAT THE HELL YOU MEAN YOU FORGOT!"

Sable gently bonks his head while sticking his tongue out. "Just kidding." Sable then lets out a sigh. "To be honest, I do not know what this year's exam will entail. It's all put together by the Higher-ups and kept a secret from the rest of the Inquisitors until the day of the exam, to ensure fairness."

Don also let out a sigh. "So I'm going into this blind?"

Sable looks at Don, who is clearly frustrated. "Don't fret, my dear student. I've brought you a gift that all Inquisitors have." Sable then puts an elegant yet simple ring on the table and pushes it over to Don.

Don becomes visibly confused. "All Inquisitors have a ring?"

Sable gently starts tapping his finger on the table. "It's a ring created from a Miracle. It allows the wearer's language to be translated to anyone they speak to and vice versa. In short terms, it's a valuable tool for us Inquisitors who have to travel to different countries on a daily basis."

Don jumps up "Wait, are you not from Brazil?"

Sable stops tapping his finger on the table and laughs. "Nope, and I don't speak any other language than English."

Don's face shows a visible shock. "Bu... But you speak perfect Portuguese."

Sable's mouth curled into a very proud smile. "Yes, be amazed at the power of the ring!" Sable quickly stands up. "Well, I gave all the information you'll need for the exam, so I'll be heading out." Sable begins to walk out the door before he stops. "Hey Don."

Don looks up from the ring. "What's up?"

Sable clinches his fist. "Many people have died in this exam so never let your guard down, and good luck." Sable walks out and shuts the door behind him.

Don sits in silence in his room. "People have died?" A cold sweat runs down his forehead as he grabs his chest. "What the hell is wrong with me?" A smile that he tries to force back appears on his face. "Why am I so excited about tomorrow?"

He gets up, smacking his face. "Calm down, man, or I'll start thinking I'm a psychopath." Don then uses his sweat to slick back his hair and takes a deep breath as he looks out his window. "The sun is setting." Don then smiles. "Despite how I feel right now, something tells me I made the right choice. I'm excited about this job." Don then stretches and heads off for bed to prepare for tomorrow.

The next day.

Don heads down to the Exam building, Sable had shown him the Exam building before it's a giant stadium bigger than a football field. He went there a few times on his own to get a feel before the exam. However, this time was different. There were multiple people filling seats in the stadium, and the stadium was filled with others here to take the exam. Each one of them looked deadly serious. The few who had caught his eyes were two American soldiers, one with blonde slick-backed hair and the other with dark skin and a buzz cut. They were both in extremely amazing shape. The other was a young girl. Her long black hair was extremely beautiful. She was emotionless, and on her hip was a long Katana. The last was a small girl who looked about his age. Her freckles and short white hair drew his attention right away. She was looking around in amazement at how big the stadium was. After his life and death encounter with Rollo, he somehow grew a sixth sense for danger and these people gave him the same feeling.

Don suddenly fell forward. He spun to see a young man with red spiky hair and red eyes. The young man put his left hand out to help Don up.

"Sorry about that. I didn't mean to bump you like that."

Don smiles as he reaches out for his hand. "No problem, man."

The second Don's hand touches the young man, Don felt a shiver in his heart, almost as if his power Rat King recoils at the touch of this man. Don lets off a nervous smile. "My name is Don."

The young man looks Don in the eyes and lets off a faint smile. "My name is Ryan."

Don sweats softly. "Good luck at the exam."

Ryan lets go of Don's hand and walked off. "You too Don."

Don takes a deep breath and thinks to himself. That was extremely dangerous. That guy was dangerous. The second he grabbed my hand, I could feel it. He was determining all the ways to kill me if he had to. It was like I was at a zoo and he was a lion looking at me, thinking about how to hunt me from inside its cage. I was wrong. These people aren't dangerous, they are all monsters.

The chatting and talking of the stadium quiet down as 7 White clade individuals took the stage placed at the center of the stadium. Don looks around and sees a freckled green-haired man with a bow on his back, Don not feeling the same type of danger inches his way towards him. "Umm, excuse me, who are those people?"

The green-haired man looks over at him. "Oh, a newcomer. Those are the Knights."

Don looks at the man, confused. "What are the Knights?"

The green-haired man crosses his arms. "They are the very best of the Inquisitors. Once you achieve the greatest accomplishments among the Order, you could also become one. It's what all Inquisitors strive for."

Don looks up at the stage. "So cool."

A man with long brown hair clad in white walks to center stage. "All present now introducing the strongest Inquisitor of our organization. The Grand Inquisitor."

The man steps to the side, as Don still comprehends the words he just heard 'The strongest Inquisitor who could that be?' In Don's mind, he imagined a built blond knight figure like King Arthur from the legends. That image was quickly broken as a familiar figure stepped on stage. Don's mouth dropped as the one who stepped onto the stage as the strongest Inquisitor, The Grand Inquisitor was the childish man he spent the last two weeks with Sable.

Sable walked up on the stage with a blank and serious face as he looked over to see Don's dumbfounded face. Sable let off a small proud smile before getting a blank serious face again. "Today is the start Inquisitor Entrance Exam."

Sable could not hold back his smile as he shouted so loud the whole stadium shook. "TRY NOT TO DIE!"
