I panted heavily as we ran out of the place Xavier had held me captive. Apparently, it was an elite hotel.
"I will call a cab," I heard Maxence say before he took out his phone and walked away. I looked around, scared that Xavier might come out. My heart was almost palpitating, making my nerves hurt.
As I was just sighing in relief after a little while, my eyes widened when I saw Xavier's tall figure staring at me from a car parked far away. The dark shadow with a sharp gaze was looking straight into my soul. My breathing became unintentionally rasped and I covered my mouth with my hands.
"Let's go— Scar, what's wrong?" Max looked at me and asked when he noticed my scared expression. I looked at him for a split second and then looked back at Xavier.
When Max followed my line of sight and saw him, the color drained from his face too. "Oh fuck!" He cursed under his breath and took my hand. "We should run."
"No… no. He will find us. If we run… he's going to kill me when he finds me!"
He took my hands and looked into my eyes. "I won't let that happen."
"No… I am sorry." I took a step back and shook my head. "I can't leave."
"You still don't trust me."
I closed my eyes and sighed. "I am sor—"
"Fine then. Stay."
I looked at him as he scoffed and jerked his hands away from mine. Then, he went over to the cab he had called and without giving me another glance, he sat inside and the car drove away.
I sighed loudly when he left. Hesitantly, I turned around to see if Xavier was still there, but he was gone along with the car.
I exhaled again, not sure how I should feel about my current situation. I turned around when suddenly a car screeched in front of me and I jumped back, scared. It was clear that it was Xavier.
He came out of his car and gave me a sharp glance. "Get in."
"But, I…"
He sat inside, ignoring me and looked at me with an almost angry expression, which made me follow his order immediately. I sat in his backseat while he started driving.
"Xavier," I whispered. "Where's Andrew?"
"At home."
"Take me to him…"
He didn't say anything and continued driving. I exhaled and looked out of the window, realizing how messed up my life was. I had a son. What the hell was I doing? I was responsible for him… and I was so careless.
We drove for a few minutes before finally stopping in front of my house. I was extremely relieved to see that we didn't go anywhere else. My breathing was hitched up because I hadn't seen Andrew for some time and I had no idea how long I was asleep.
I came out of the car and hurried towards the door. Anna, the babysitter, opened the door with a huge smile present on her lips.
"Hello, Ms. Scarlet! I tried your number several times but when didn't return for two days. Is everything okay?"
"Yeah… yeah," I whispered as I looked inside, trying to find Drew. Finally, I spotted him running towards the gate, and then he embraced me in his little hug.
"Mommy! Where were you, mommy?" He cried and I looked at him lovingly. After picking him up in my arms, I walked inside.
I knew Xavier followed me inside but I couldn't care about it much. I needed to know how Drew was first.
"I am sorry, honey. Mommy had to leave for a while. How are you?" I asked as we sat down on the couch.
He smiled. "I am okay, mommy. The teacher praised me because I performed good on my test!"
"Test?" I raised my eyebrow. He was just in kindergarten.
"Yeah. They did a test! It was to talk to each other!"
I nodded and smiled. "I knew my Andrew was smart."
He was just smiling back at me when his gaze shifted to Xavier. "Xavier Uncle! How are you here?" He asked, excitedly.
Xavier came closer to him with a small smile and sat down on the floor in front of him to lower his height. "Hey, Andrew. How is everything going on with you?"
His voice was rather soft right now, making me wonder if he had a split personality disorder.
"I am good, uncle! You didn't come here either. Were you with mommy all this time?" He had a clear smile on his face, and I so wanted to know what his thoughts were.
"Yes, Drew. I was helping your mommy with some office work. How was school?"
"It was good! I did good on a test."
Xavier patted his head and smiled. I was taken aback by his sweet gestures — he was behaving as if he could never do anything bad in his life.
Why wasn't he shocked to hear that they took "tests" in kindergarten?
"Mommy, but what happened to your face?"
Drew finally noticed the bandages on my face and asked me with a worried face. My hand went over to my face in instinct and I gave a small glance to Xavier, who looked back at me and then at Drew.
"Mommy got hit by something. She is gonna be just fine."
"Uncle, please take care of mommy. When I grow up, I will take care of her!"
Xavier got up. "I will take care of her, Andrew. You should now eat something; don't you feel hungry?"
"Yes, yes!" He said excitedly before jumping off the couch and running towards the dining room. Anna shared a glance with me before passing a small smile and going off before Andrew too, leaving me alone with Xavier.
