Chapter 6 - Do Not Forget

Eva brought her face closer to Edward, attempting a second kiss. She was, however, about to throw up.

"Oh shit!" Edward exclaimed as the woman in front of him finally vomited. Her timely exit from the car was a lifesaver.

After almost spilling out her guts from being completely drunk, Eva gradually adjusted her clothes while maintaining her balanced stance and wiping her lips.

She glanced at Edward with her resting bitch face again and gushed, "I'm going home now."

Edward nodded with a confused look on his face and responded, "Alright."

It was obvious that Eva pretended as if she was completely sober. She thinks she was simply weary and sleepy, which is why she knows she can still walk inside her house.

She turned her back against him and waved her hands before eventually walking a few more steps inside the gate of her house.

The day has come when Eva's presence as vice president of the company is required to welcome the newly elected president of the board.

Just like she does every day to wake up before her own alarm clock goes off, she would carefully get up from the bed and grab her phone from the accent table next to it to turn it off.

She was resting on her right side in bed, facing her bedroom door. The only sound she could hear before her alarm turned on was the silence of the morning.

Her attention went to Isha—a 10 year old female German Malinois—lying above and on the edge of her bed.

As she clicked her tongue which is the usual way she calls Isha's attention, the dog moved towards her for a belly rub.

"Good girl," she praised Isha.

Then, she received a text message from Edward, which she decided to ignore and left unread.

It's Saturday, and she wasn't supposed to have anything to do in relation to her work. So, she managed to suppress the impulse to respond.

Eva won't give a damn what it is. She will only work during the weekdays; weekends are off limits.

After tossing the phone above the bed, she got up and walked to the bathroom. She took her toothbrush and stepped up in front of the mirror over the sink.

In the middle of brushing her teeth, she had a few flashbacks of what had occurred the night prior.

Edward kissed her.

And she kissed him back.

They just kissed.

No.

They actually made out with each other, and it happened while she was still inside the car and he was standing outside leaning on her.

She can't believe she just had her first hookup with one of her best friends. But why in the world would Edward let that happen?

They could be both drunk. Or maybe it was only Eva who was drunk and Edward was just pretending. There is no way he would take advantage of that opportunity unless he was definitely feeling something for her.

Despite keeping it from their office colleagues, she thought it would be impossible for her to see him as more than just a friend or vice versa.

'Maybe he'd forgotten about it,' she thought.

Donning her black lightweight turtleneck sweater, a pair of jeans, and a pair of white sneakers, she later hurried out of her house.

She had planned to explore the city to find small local restaurants and give them a chance to be recognized by fine dining customers.

Something dropped out of her bag as she was prepping, and she knew right away that it was the party invitation.

"Edward—really!" She sulkily opened the invitation wide to take another look inside.

And she discovered something that would give her a strong reason for missing tonight's party.

On the verge of leaving her home whilst shutting the gate, Eva was shocked when she heard a loud car honk. After she screeched to a halt, she saw Edward standing beside his parked car.

"Why the fuck are you here?!" she snarled at him.

"Did you receive my text?"

"What text?" Eva turned her back on him as she continued to lock the gate.

Edward wasn't taking it and so he ignored the fact that she was his boss. He went after her and grabbed her by the arm.

"Hey, hey!" she exclaimed in surprise. "What are you doing?!"

She was dragged inside his car and had no choice but to stay there until he drove away from the apartment.

"Where are you taking me?" she asked him.

"Why did you ignore my text? I told you I'd pick you up today," he questioned in the middle of driving the car.

"There's no text!"

She either forgot or she's just lying, the reason for her muttering something that Edward found hilarious, and he smirked at her.

"You are a terrible liar—the same as ten years ago—you don't know how to tell lies."

She gritted her teeth in annoyance. "Stop talking about what happened ten years ago, you jerk!"

"Jerk?!"

"The person you are talking about ten years ago is not me anymore!"

"How could you call someone you just kissed and made out with last night a jerk?" Edward confronted her because he was hurt.

'So, he didn't forget about that?!' she thought.

"That kiss was a mistake and it should never have happened," she admitted.

He froze as he experienced a pretty awful heartache as a result of what she had just said, suddenly stepping on the car's brake and parking on the side of the road.

"You're right. That should have never happened," he nodded with a blank expression. "And I apologize for kissing you."

After realizing what just happened and what was said, they get to stay silent.

"Is that why you're trying to avoid me?"

"I'm not trying to avoid you just because of the kiss. It wasn't a big deal," she replied.

"Then, why did you seem to escape earlier? You knew I was coming over. Because the fact that you left my text unread and pretended that you didn't receive it means you are certainly lying," Edward insisted.

When Eva heard what he had to say, she became fixated on him and nodded.

"Lying, you say?" she questioned him. "You dare to accuse me of lying to you when it is obvious that you are the one who didn't tell me that Daniel and Aiden will be at the party!"

"That's it, Eva? Do you truly want to never see them again?" he exclaimed. "I can't believe you left our friendship behind as soon as you left that house."

Eva knows that nothing can be fully explained with words alone.

"It's been ten years, Eva. You should've already moved on from what happened back then," Edward added.

And she's not even supposed to explain everything to him.

"That's what I did…"

Edward continued to look at her incredulously.

"You guys are part of that past I wish to forget," Eva continued, being insensitive.

Even if he tried to confront her with all that had hurt him—and most likely had hurt their friends at the time—she wouldn't feel bad about it.

That is how strongly Eva stands by what she did.

"Did you…" Edward asked, "really?"

In a current discreetly awkward relationship with each other, Edward turns a blind eye to her and gets out of the vehicle.

He flung open the door for her, obviously telling her that she has the freedom to leave and get out of his car.

Without hesitation, Eva gets off as Edward speaks to her, "I texted you the address of the venue in case you decide to go to the party for the benefit of our department's prestige."

In order to get a better look at the person she was speaking to, Eva moved away from the car.

"Why would you think of texting me the address when you already planned to pick me up?" Eva asked her, trying to understand the logic behind his statement.

"It's because I respect you, Eva, both as my boss and as my friend," Edward responded. "I respect how you value detailed information."

He finally entered his car, leaving her in silence, and sped off.
