Sil watched silently from the shadows as he continued moving stealthily around the edge of the clearing, staying low to the ground and shrouded by darkness. He had been studying his enemy's every move, learning the patterns of it's AI, and formulating counter attacks for every possible situation he could think of. But something was off, and he couldn't quite put his finger on it. There were moments where The Predatory Blood Wolf Emperor had suddenly done unexpected things. Like when it appeared to be distracted by thoughts of its own.
Sil shook his head, He needed to focus on the here and now and not if some AI was or wasn't thinking for itself! The Wolf was at it again, just sitting there, it's brow furrowed as it sniffed around aimlessly then looked to the sky. With a shrug Sil took the opportunity and darted out from behind the enemy, cutting deep into it's thigh with a critical Flash Strike. Sil had to restrain himself from screaming out in joy as he saw the Bleeding status symbol appear under the Predatory Blood Wolf Emperor's health bar. Now his health would drop regardless of whether Sil attacked or not. Phase one of his plan had been completed.
Now it was time for Phase two, and this part of the plan was a bit more tricky. With a heavy sigh Sil stood up and stepped out of the shadows, his Shadow Meld ability turning off instantly.
-------
The Predatory Blood Wolf was in dismay. He had no idea what was happening anymore. The little adventurer just kept appearing and vanishing, even his scent kept vanishing, and that was not an easy feat, even for the most powerful beings of the world. And now not only was he not able to regenerate due to some kind of blasted poison coursing through his veins, but he was bleeding and was slowly losing life. He was going to meet his end no matter how this fight ended, and that was upsetting for him. By all the God's good and evil, this little mouse has me trapped, the wolf thought to himself.
Suddenly the adventurer's scent returned. He opened his one good eye and looked down towards the source of the scent and there he was, the little mouse. He looked almost imposing in his golden runed black leathers. A true God of Death. The other Guardians may have problems with this one, the thought made the wolf laugh in his head. Taking three steps back he laid down slowly and stared hard at this little mouse who turned out to be a God of Death.
With a little effort he focused a thought towards the little mouse.
-------
Sil almost jumped out his skin when he heard the voice of the Predatory Blood Wolf Emperor in his mind.
"Little mouse, may we speak on something?"
For a moment Sil thought he might be going mad, but soon enough realized that the wolf was really speaking to him.
"Um, yes, we can talk."
"Don't be scared little mouse, it's not becoming of a God of Death, and my time is short. Please take time to listen to my story. The fight between us has already been decided."
"Wait....are you just giving up?" Sil yelled to the Wolf.
"There is no need to tell, I can hear you just fine," the wolf groaned and tucked his ears. "I simply know when death is near and when to admit defeat. Now relax little mouse, listen to what I have to say."
Sil nodded and sat down making himself comfortable, though staying alert in case this turned out to be a trick or worse, another player arrived.
"I've known this world for many many moons little mouse, well before the lights fell from the sky birthing you adventurers. I've watched the cycles of life and death of my kin and the other woodland creatures for as long as I can remember," blood began to trickle from his muzzle as he continued.
"As the Guardian of the Forests of this world, I've protected these forests with my very life, that is, until I had the misfortune of meeting you. The God of Death who pretends to be a little mouse shrouded in shadows. And as a God of Death should do, you eliminated your enemy with cunning and precision. I hold no hatred or animosity towards you, just know that there are other Guardians of this world more powerful than I, and they will be awaiting their turn to fight you."
Sil noticed the blood pooling beneath the body of the Predatory Blood Wolf Emperor, as well as the steady stream of blood flowing from the corners of it's muzzle forming another pool beneath its head.
"Other Guardians?" Sil asked, finally receiving something useful from the enemy he was now growing bored with.
"Yes, little mouse, and I'm certain, even now, they can sense what is happening here."
Sil stood and looked at this so called Predatory Blood Wolf Emperor with pity. It was down to a mere ten percent of it's health, he thought without satisfaction. It was the that he noticed the Dagger of the Scared's rune covered surface was glowing fiercely. Almost without thinking Sil walked over to the The Predatory Blood Wolf Emperor slowly and before he had realized what he had done the hilt of the Dagger was protruding from the wolf's forehead.
-------
The Predatory Blood Wolf Emperor saw it happen as if in slow motion. The God of Death rose to his feet, the surface of his black armor and weapons flowing fiercely with the runes of the ancients. He laid there, unable to move or break eye contact, frozen in place by the mere presence of a little mouse who is capable of killing even gods. He watched as the little mouse glided forward, moving without a sound. Felt the blade slice deeply, the runes burning white hot between his eyes, searing through tissue, bone, and flesh before piercing his brain. But it was what he felt next that truly terrified him. He felt himself losing consciousness as his soul was ripped from his body and in to the dagger.
-------
The body of the Predatory Blood Wolf Emperor burst into flecks of light as it's health depleted to zero. Sil still hasn't quite figured out when he had killed his enemy exactly, but it was obvious he must have killed it. There was no one else but him around. It still made no sense to him though. One moment he was sitting there listening to this monster's tale and growing bored, the next he was standing over it's vanishing corpse.
Multiple items suddenly burst from the spot where his enemy had died. Searching through the Spoils Sil found quite a few things lying around. Another rare map, which he hoped would lead him to the next guardian, a bag of 50 gold, a medallion with the symbol of a wolf on it that glowed with a purple aura, marking it as epic grade equipment, and a bunch of junk to sell. A glowing orange item caught his eye, buried at the bottom of junk items, sat a legendary item. He inspected the item and fell back on his ass laughing. The final drop was a legendary mount, and not just any legendary mount. Oh no, this mount was special, it's name was The Predatory Blood Wolf Emperor.
