The announcement flashed across the sky in dark crimson letters. Sil smiled contently and followed the path back out of the clearing and back the original path that led out of town. This would be the safest place for him to log out at this point. He had gained five levels when he had killed the Predatory Blood Wolf Emperor, and he had wanted to divvy out the stat points before logging out. In the end he had allotted all of points into strength, agility, and luck, giving him a total of twenty two points in both strength and agility, and eleven in luck. He felt like he was off to a good start. The announcement went off in the background stating the game was closing in three minutes. Sil opened the menu and pressed the logout button.
-------
Sil took off his VR helmet and set it down on his desk. He was exhausted, and not just mentally from playing for hours. His body felt like he had run a marathon, as if all of his in game actions were actually performed by his body. It would take a while for the game to update. The devs in the online forum said the that average update took about twelve hours to complete. That gave Sil time to relax and report in to his bosses about the new mmo.
MMOs we're what Sil did for a living. He worked for a firm that hires competent gamers to play new release games, on several platforms, and dominate them. The stronger your character became, the more the company paid you. It was an easy gig, and the pay was competitive, but he had made enough to be able to work from home full time and have a decent lifestyle. He really couldn't complain. After thirty minutes of paperwork and emails, Sil finally found the chance to lay down. It didn't take long for Sil to fall fast asleep.
-------
**BEEP BEEP BEEP**
Sil woke to his alarm blaring and his phone flashing five-thirty pm. Ugh, sil moaned to himself. He had to get up and be ready for the night. He had a game to play and money to make, and Fallen would be finished updating in thirty minutes. A hot shower and a quick bit later and he was ready to get things started. He planned to start working towards a level where he could use his new mount, he also wanted to check the stat modifier for his heritage armor and weapons as they were now level seven with his character.
Sil used his long charging cable for the VR helmet and laid down on his bed, he wanted to be more comfortable playing this time. He put on his VR helmet and powered it up.
**Biometric scan complete**
**Welcome back**
An electronic voice spoke in his head. The clock on his visor read 17:59, the moment it changed to 18:00 Sil fired up the game, starting the familiar black and red login screen for Fallen.
-------
Once again Sil was met with a video introduction screen, but this one was different.
Welcome back young Spellblade, the voice of the narrator greeted him.
Congratulations are in order
Having beat the Guardian of the Forest, you are now the Hero of the Forest. The woodland animals shall no longer seek to attack you, and may help you when you need them.
Be warned though, this does not apply to some of the creatures and beasts you may encounter.
Some gifts for saving the forest have been left for you to claim once you've arrived in the world.
Good luck young Spellblade.
-------
The video faded and Sil appeared where he had logged out, but much had changed with the update. The forest were no longer dark and foreboding, quite the contrary, they were now vibrant and full of life. As if defeating The Predatory Blood Wolf Emperor had released some kind of curse that had covered the forest. It seemed so much more beautiful and peaceful now. He had a feeling that this would be the start of amazing day of leveling.
An in game email notification appeared on the top right corner of his vision, the moment he noticed it, it opened.
"Dear DeathBringer,
The enclosed gifts are for your lone efforts in defeating the Guardian of the Forest. I'm sure you'll find them most helpful on your journey.
-The Dev Staff"
The inventory icon started flashing, indicating that Sil had new items stored there. Upon quick inspection, he found a gift box entitled 'The Hero of the Forest Gift Pack'. He opened the gift causing a new inventory panel to open. He quickly claimed all of the gear before inspecting them individually. Among the usual health potions and food items were also an assassin's lockpick set, seven heritage armor crystals made for experience enhancement, a one use item that instantly took him to level ten, a new map that glowed with purplish hue that he hoped led him to the next Guardian, and an item that allowed him to gain the title in game of Hero of the Forest.
Sil went ahead and used the item and the the words Hero of the Forest appeared beneath his character name.

He smiled and used the instant leveling item.

**Player DeathBringer is the First to Reach Level 10**
**Congratulations DeathBringer**
The dark crimson letters flashed across the sky and faded. Sil check his new abilities.
Passive Abilities:
Spirit of the Forest, this ability renders the user nearly invisible when within any forest in the world of Fallen.
Hero of the Forest, this title bound ability renders the user immune to all aggro from the natural creatures of the forest, and grants them some protections as well.
Active Abilities:
Deadly Strike lvl 1, this ability, when combined with Shadow Meld, inflicts 150% of the total damage to the enemy ignoring defense.
Assassin's Mark lvl 1, this ability locks on to the target's weak spot ensuring a critical hit upon landing an attack.
In addition to these new abilities, his other abilities had all made it to level two, increasing their effectiveness in battle.
After distributing his stat points Sil now had 28 strength, 28 agility, and 14 luck points. With his armor and weapons now leveled up as well he was sitting on some pretty heavy stats. This was going to be a great a start to new adventure, Sil thought to himself with a broad smile. It was time to go to the next town and upgrade his armor and weapons to add some crystal slots and then he'd worry about finding the next Guardian.
