While Stephan took a bath, his mind was lost thinking about one person. He was in the past so there was an opportunity to learn more about the person who dragged him to Masmoenia and also the reason why. She gave him a huge boost of luck stat; the reason why he didn't die yet. He has been lucky from the start. However, he wasn't strong yet. He could use the witch. However, what if he was met with a circumstance that would render him useless? No matter how he used his brain, there would be situations where he wouldn't have the upper hand.
"If I had just one useful skill! Just one to start this whole thing! I am practically useless; I cannot even defend myself if I meet another ogre or a horde of goblins. Who guarantees my survival if something similar happened?" he said staring at the ceiling.
He was so comfortable in the warm bath that he wished he wouldn't get out from there. His inner self yearned for something powerful to fight his own battles instead of just leaving it to others. Stephan always wondered how it would feel to beat up a boss using his own skills.
"Aurora Von Peregrinator! How am I supposed to fight if I am not given the proper skills? Aren't systems supposed to give skills when you level up? Especially, I must have the starter pack skill. How come I can do only the normal and charged attacks?"
If he was ranked, he would be the weakest mage out there. It felt like what he wanted was light years away from him. Suddenly, a sense of envy submerged him. He wanted to be as all those stories he read about reincarnation or isekai; why was he the only one who didn't get a decent system?
He wanted to throw a tantrum but it would be a breach of his own persona that he took since he met that dwarf and that elf. His life before was unattractive and dull; he was slightly grateful because he could experience the magic and touch it. However, it was exhausting for him to deal with people all the time. He could talk to anyone but he always felt he could say something bad; that's why his sentences were always long and sometimes said useless things.
No one would take him seriously if he joked all the time. Therefore, if he made a mistake, he could simply say he didn't tell them to trust him. There would be always room for error and he didn't like taking responsibility for it when the damage was great; that was why he was a solo player before.
If someone saw his current state, he would say that he was childish and ridiculous. Stephan pouted because he couldn't get a decent skill like others. He was supposed to be an apprentice magician. Suddenly, he remembered the ring and gazed at his finger. It was still there, not disappearing for a strange reason.
"Hey, skeleton. Why do I have this? If I was her disciple then, why wouldn't she give me skills and ways to protect myself? I cannot depend on others all the time."
"That's why I said I needed something to protect myself with. If you don't have any solution, then I don't need you to repeat something I already know it," Stephan said aggressively.
He felt his anger rise within him. He was desperate to reach what he dreamt about, what she promised him… Nothing was working as he intended… Well, some things were going like he expected. For example, when he understood he was in the past and the game he played was in the past as well, he wished to meet a strong person that could protect him and he did. It was easy to get the witch to accept the deal since he already knew what she was looking for. However, it wouldn't work when the test would be done.
There was something strange in the game he played… How come there were things from the past and things from the future? Events weren't in chronological order.
He looked at the ring again opening his eyes widely. Something was fishy and he couldn't put the finger on it.
"Tell me, I need to acquire about an important matter. How come the game I played called Legend of the Past didn't respect the chronological orders of the events? The story was chaotic and I don't think this world respects those events."
"Because she got bored?"
"I am sure you don't mean helping people; she meant to be nosy about their lives. From what you said, I can understand that what's happening now isn't one of her calculations. In the past, when I played the game, I had access to the castle's secret passages without passing a test. However, many things weren't loyal to the actual event itself. I should reorganize my plans, it's not fair when I don't know anything and I don't have anything to help myself with."
The priestess was an anomaly and the fact that the bandit searched for Maddock as well. In the original event that happened in the game, he was only supposed to get rid of the bandits.
