Chapter 49 - The road is clear

Agandaur turned furious at Stephan's decision. His head went back and forth between the group of elves and his travelling companions. He didn't know what to make of the situation. He turned to the dwarf and he also turned his head away showing he had no intention of interfering with those elves. In the end, Agandaur started picking as much rock as he could and threw it at the beast monsters, attracting their attention.

Soprana felt pity for the futile help Agandaur was offering but it certainly earned some time for the elves to decapitate another head. The latter rolled on the ground leaving a trail of black blood. Stephan could hear the sound of Soprana jumping from her broom and with a wave, it disappeared. It was the time to watch a ridiculous show and she liked it whenever she saw those elves struggling to fight some kind of strange creature.

Somehow, she noticed the strange features of the beast monsters and how they gave off a human feeling mixed with the terror of the monsters in the wild. She couldn't understand why they gave off the human feeling when they were clearly beasts. Nevertheless, beasts didn't have a lamp from each animal. Every monster was unique in its own way and they worked together as if they had a brain, changing the attack pattern each time the elves got a hold of their way of fighting.

The monsters found it annoying that a brat was throwing a rock at them so one of them decided to pick a big stone and threw it at Agandaur at high speed. The elf ducked dodging the attack and it flew right at the dwarf's face, throwing him back and causing him a nosebleed.

The witch rubbed her chin then snapped her fingers as if she realized something. She turned her head to check if Stephan was thinking about the same thing. Instead, he glanced back at the dwarf. He let out a sigh of relief seeing he wasn't dead. Gillibrian was just taken back by surprise and was thinking of what just happened. When Stephan's eyes met Soprana's, he shrugged.

"I'm busy trying to figure out my current situation. It seems we have a suicide one. Therefore, from now on he would be our cannon folder and we have a shield that would take the damage thrown at us, then there is our great gun, the witch Soprana who would only attack when needed."

"I am curious about something; since you helped those two, what's the benefit was there for you?"

"My reason was simple; I was bored and I needed a change of air," he lied with a stern face. "I played a game and was forced to help them because of it."

"Oh! That's surprising!" she clapped. "Each time you speak, only words of wisdom come out."

She was mocking him but he turned the situation into something of pride for him. He grinned widely. "What do you think I am? Obviously, I am a top player so things like these are normal to happen to me," he returned his attention to Agandaur. "Though I hate to say it but I need him unharmed, can you use your superpowers to bind him?"

He pushed his selfish desire to her and she executed happily. With flustered cheeks, she materialized her wand then roots from the trees around travelled as if attracted by the scent of water and reached for Agandaur feet. They wrapped around his feet and dragged him hanging him upside down by the feet on a tree.

"What are you doing? Put me down."

"They are strong warriors, Agandaur. You are just wasting your time throwing rocks. Don't waste your energy on something that wouldn't cause a change," Stephan gazed at the whole show waiting for it to end.

He thought it was good someone was willing to clear the road for him so he could advance comfortably. Richard tried to ignore the strangers but he didn't forget the elf who attempted to help them by throwing useless rocks. One of those useless stones even hit the back of his head making him lose his focus for a moment; he was thankful for the witch who pulled a trick to put him in control.

Casper sliced the last beast and screamed victoriously. Hermey slammed his butt against the ground immediately after the battle ended. They were surrounded by monsters all around and pairs of eyes that watched the entire thing, except for the elf with them, no one helped.

Richard walked towards the group and his movement made Agandaur shut up. Gazing inside Stephan's eyes, it was like gazing at an endless abyss. The eyes, devoid of emotions, gaze at them as if inspecting some kind of product displayed for sale. It secretly offended him. He stopped in front of the three of them, ignoring the elf on the tree thinking he was some kind of monkey.

"Such a strange party you have here! Who is the leader here?" the witch smiled, the dwarf kept staring at the sky, the elf stopped moving because he got tired and Stephan simply examined Richard's armour.

"Such a rude man you are, dear colleague! We are all here wanderers so, shouldn't you introduce yourself first?"

"I could do that if you were respectful enough and lent a hand to us. Obviously, it wasn't hard for us to take down those beasts but it was time-consuming," he raised his nose high in the air proud of his achievement. "You watched from the sidelines as if expecting us to die, were you the one who led them to us?"

"What would I earn from that? Is there anything good to earn from killing you? I don't think you hold so much worth in my eyes."

Richard felt a nerve crack in his veins. The lad was disrespectful and unkind, not only that, his eyes made him feel the need to take out his sword and make his head roll on the ground, he even imagined himself playing with it with his feet, tossing it around like a ball.

"Oh, I forgot!" Stephan exclaimed. "Thank you for clearing the road for us. You should have worked faster. Do you have a gold coin? I think we should pay the gentleman for clearing the road for us," he turned to Soprana who shook her head disappointed.
