Chapter 12 - Mana System (Part 1)

Mana System (Part 1)

Small fragments of memories were built along the short time I had been here and exactly a week passed since the banquet.

Rakhiel finally taught me the basic spells and essential things to understand about the system. He left all the 'extensive' details to Lady Lilith as it was 'best to learn from the actual designer'.

"Listen well, my dear cousin. There are many types of magic spells. Excluding the basic ones there are fusion-type magic, technology-based magic, advance-elemental magic, inventory magic system, and unique-type magic of which its usage can be directly manipulated by the owner."

"You mean castor?"

"No. The term owner fits better as unique-type magic are personalized spells made of mana from their core. It's not mana from the surrounding area".

"As an example, unique-type magic are like this," two large magic circles form like a pair of wings behind him.

"Woaaaaah!" Obviously I couldn't hide my amazement at the spectacle like always. "That looks really amazing".

He stood proudly and posed while flying around. It truly worked as a pair of wings. Of course he needed to design it more to make it look like actual wings but as long as it functioned as one then it was no problem. "This is a unique fusion-elemental and technology-based magic. Another example of unique-type magic is your lightning spell. Ah! Can you show that again?"

As I cast the spell, a large mana circle a bit bigger than Khiel's wings were staring up at the sky and the [Dioxazine] spell was emitted again. I placed [Water Mirror] parallel to it as well so that the mana in my core doesn't get drained.

Of course, redirecting an already produced magic back to being a mana through the magic circle hurts a lot but it is a necessary procedure for me. I grunted at the spectacle, "You look like you're in pain".

"What?" I was dumbfounded. Yes, I did whimper quietly but I shouldn't look in pain. "But I'm not in pain" I smiled calmly.

He scoff, "My dear cousin I have eyes, you know. I can see the static emanating from you when your magic went back the circle."

"Sigh. I didn't know it could leave evidence. No one had noticed before"

In a nutshell, Rakhiel stopped the lesson for the day in concern for my core health and lifted me before flying me back to my room. "You need not do this cousin" I cooed.

He shook his head "By the way it was fascinating how you didn't react when I flew you here, the girls I've done this to' had always squealed all the same." And placed me to bed like a child.

'I'm used to flying although it was more like walking in the air for me.'

"You're dating someone?" I changed the topic unconsciously. "You didn't bring anyone to the party after all".

He sat down on a chair next to my bed and looked like a parent who tucked their kid to bed. "I'm dating different girls all the time so it's not weird that I didn't escort anyone". At that, I instinctively moved away from him.

Rakhiel laughed at that, "I am fairly popular you know. Even with my feminine charm, I am a man after all".

"You sound so proud on your polygamy schemes and cross-gender tendencies."

"Do you want to hear the story behind that? It's a long tale and I do want to entertain you but I have a date this afternoon."

"Tsk just go on your date then".

"I can cancel the date if you really want to hear the story Taby".

"It's fine, I'd rather not be hated for taking your time" Definitely don't want to be scorned by the females he piled up.

"Hahahaha yes yes. Well I'll give you a chance to ask a certain aspect of the lesson then, just for you to busy yourself with it".

I thought a lot about it for days now and since before the lesson, Khiel had rejected any of my questions, this was certainly a sweet chance. "I'll take you up on that offer then."

"Remember Kadrina Lukas?"

"The girl you told you wouldn't remember their name?" he laughed. "Yes, I remember. You sounded mean at the time but here you are actually talking about her".

I laughed awkwardly, "It couldn't be helped since she did something amazing, at least for me".

A brows creased on him and I replied, "During her casting, she looked as if she was analyzing something mid-air and the basic fireball spell became of great quality after that. The magic circle that produced that was also smaller in size but it was boosting her. I didn't really understand how she did that".

"What do you mean you don't understand?"

"Exactly what it is. How she was able to produce a good quality magic with a basic mana foundation still astounds me to this day".

"How do you cast your spell then?"

I stared while feeling a sudden sense of disorientation, "Isn't it just a concentration of mana in the core and mix it with elemental structures together then forging a channel like the magic circle to push it out from inside to the outside?"

My explanation managed to draw more confusion on his face. "Is that not how you do it? I'm technically saying it is through instinct", I explained further, sat down on the bed due to the uncomfortable silence.

Khiel gaped at me like he was seeing an unknown creature.

"You're saying that you don't use any system to configure your magic formula?"

"What are magic formulas?"

Silence again.

Another hit in my already decaying confidence in our generation's magic capabilities was made.

"So that's why you're absorbing your spells back into your body?"

"Technically speaking, yes."

He stopped talking, or moving, again.

"You are weird, yes…" he started talking to himself. "I should've thought so when you had no record of using the mana system but," he looked at me "You're really like an ancient mage. It's not even a funny joke."

"I commend you though for doing all those powerful magic skills but it's quite bad for you not to learn mana system at all." Khiel started to pipe down again as if thinking.

"Tell me what I need, Khiel." I nonchalantly told him.

"You need a lot honestly. First of all, you should get dressed."

"Why?"

"You need a tutor. A proper one. Someone who could handle teaching you who has a complicated background."

"Is there someone like that here?"

"You should already know who it is, my dear mana-system-less cousin."

Rakhiel started calling attendants in and pushed me to the dresser before walking away, "We're going to Lilith's".
