Chapter 498 - What about Liam?

"So tell me, is there something going on in the camp that I should be aware of?" asked Wura during she and Mero's shared breakfast.

It was not like she wanted to cause unnecessary arguments and problems, but she had suddenly remembered seeing Mero with one of the guards early this morning and she was just wondering if something serious was going on.

"No, not at all Wura." replied Mero simply as he frowned.

"Why do you ask?" he asked, he definitely did not want to ruin this simple time of theirs spent together, this was the calmest and at peace that he had seen her in a long while.

"No reason, I just remembered seeing you talking to one of the guards in the morning and I was wondering if it was something serious or not." she replied honestly.

"I see... well let me put your mind at ease, everything is alright in the camp, there are no problems. Everyone that was injured has recovered. There has been no unexpected rain in days, we have been able to repair everything damaged by the rain. The camp is in a state of serenity at the moment." said Mero.

"I am glad about that Mero, I hope that this serenity continues to last." said Wura wishfully.

"So do I, and I hope that you continue to have that look of tranquility in your eyes." he said suddenly causing Wura to look at him. She had not directly looked at him since they had sat down to have breakfast together. That was mostly because she did not want to feel as if she was being too forward.

"I hope so too." said Wura as she smiled softly.

"I do not mean to pry, but may I ask why you seem so calm this morning?" asked Mero.

"Well, you are not prying at all." said Wura.

"After our little discussion last night, I came to the realization that things that are bound to happen will happen, and instead of trying to change them, causing more suffering for yourself and the people involved, it is best to just leave things as they are." she said as Mero nodded.

"Even though I do agree with that to some extent..." Mero said as he took a pause and Wura knew that he wanted to say something else.

"But what? You can go on Mero, I want to hear what you think." she said honestly.

"Are you sure Wura?" Mero asked in uncertainty.

"Yes, very sure, I value your opinion a lot, I want you to tell me what you truly think about what I said." said Wura as she nodded.

"Well I do agree with what you said, but to some extent, if I am being very honest, thinking that just because something is bound to happen you should not do anything to stop it would be rather immature and senseless." said Mero.

"Elaborate more." she said not in the slightest offended but rather intrigued.

"I did not mean what I said in an offensive way, I just mean that for example, if there was an archer standing right in front of me with his bow pulled out with an arrow ready to shoot. If I believed that there was no point moving because he was inevitably going to shoot at me, that would be more idiotic that wise." said Mero.

"As human beings, what differentiates us from animals is that we have free will and free choice. If something does not sit well with us, instead of continuing to endure, we move to solve out problems." said Mero.

"If we were to sit and wait for our impending doom, there would be no change in the world, that is why I feel that you are right, but at the same time, you are wrong." he said.

"This is not only about what I said is it?" asked Wura as Mero shook his head.

"I do not want you to do anything or be forced into anything because you feel pressured." Mero confessed causing Wura to smile.

"You are not pressuring me Mero, no one is... if I decided to give what we feel for each other a chance, it is simply because I am tired of suffering, I am tired of feeling alone, why should I continue to feel so sad and empty when there is someone right beside me who only wants to make me happy?" asked Wura as she smiled. She stretched out her hand and held Mero's hand in hers.

"What about Liam?" asked Mero because he felt like he would be an idiot if he did not ask her that.

"I will not lie, you know how I feel about Liam, I love him, I still love him, and I cannot help but feel like his absence hurts me so much because I love him. I still have no doubt in my mind that someday he will return. But for the time being I cannot continue to feel like this. I deserve to be happy as well." said Wura.

"And what about when he returns?" asked Mero, he just felt like it was better for them to iron everything out before the time comes.

Wura let out a deep painful sigh, she did not want to have to say what she thoughts and seem like a very insensitive person who was selfish, but Mero deserved the truth.

"When he returns...I...I will have no choice but to return to him... he is my husband, and although he is not present now, once he returns I have to go back to him I love him." she said.

"Mero, I am so sorry if I sound like a selfish, insensitive, vile woman who only takes advantage of the people that have been good to her." said Wura apologetically.

"Not at all, I do not see you like that at all." said Mero as he smiled and rubbed the back of her hand.

"I see you as a woman who is honest with herself and those around her; no matter how bitter the truth is, it is still the truth." he replied.

"And I have no one else to blame but myself. I did tell you that I would take anything you offer me no questions asked, and this is no exception." said Mero as he raised her hand to his lips and placed a gentle kiss on it.

"Oh Mero..." said Wura helplessly, feeling terrible that he truly was accepting of her harsh decision of leaving him as soon as Liam returned.

"I will not lie that it will pain me exceedingly greatly when that time comes. But I will understand your decision." said Mero as he smiled.

"But until that time comes, I will try to enjoy what we are experiencing together...because I love you Wura." said Mero lovingly as Wura bit her lips, she could not say it back to him, she just could not, and she could see in his eyes that he knew she could not, and yet he looked so accepting of it.

"Liam has always been a great friend to me, and a great brother...the one thing I am sure that he can never forgive me of is... loving you, and I have already gone too far to turn back." said Mero.

"I will lose his friendship, and it will hurt me to, but it will be for the best." said Mero as he let go of Wura's hand and she stood up, walked towards him and was led to give hi a hug.

"The same goes for me as well... I do not know what I am going to tell him when he returns." Wura said as she sighed.

"Then it is best that we do not think of that now, once the time comes, we will know what to do." said Mero as he smiled, breaking their hug and giving Wura a kiss on the cheek.

"If only I had met you first and gotten to know you the way I know you now...I would have married you and done things the right way." he said, he knew that it was rather brazen for him to say such things, but that was the truth, that was what he felt.

"I cannot say that I regretted ever meeting Liam... but you are a great friend, and a wonderful person." she replied with a soft smile.

"Any woman would be lucky to have you love them, if only it was not me you loved but someone else that would truly make you happy." she said sadly.

"Life goes on, we just have to enjoy what we have in the moment." said Mero as Wura nodded and sighed returning back to her seat to finish her breakfast.

She admired that she and Mero could speak like adults and reach a mutual understanding of the situation that they were in. That was why she respected and admired Mero so much...his nature of understanding was perfect.

And she truly felt guilty for their relationship to have continued in this way.
