Wura and Mero were busy having dinner together as there was nothing but silence. The silence made Wura uncomfortable, not because she was uncomfortable being with Mero, but because she was not a person who could stay in a room with another person without having a conversation.
She wanted to say something, but she did not know what to say. She had run out of things that she and Mero could discuss.
Wura glanced at Mero, the silence did not seem to bother him one bit. She was sure that he was used to long periods of prolonged silence. Mero was not a talktative person.
Well now that she thought about it, he only really spoke just to make sure she knew what was going on and so she did not feel lonely, or else she was sure that they would have barely said four words to each other if not for that.
Wura sighed internally, she hated the fact that she could not stay quiet, she wanted to say something and yet she did not want to embarrass herself, and on top of that, Mero did not complain, so why should she be the one to distrupt the peace?
Mero on the other hand noticed that Wura was troubled, he could see the flickering emotions in her eyes. Whenever she was overthinking a matter, her eyes darted from side to side as they looked in an unrest.
Mero was not sure if Wura knew that about herself, but he did. He proceeded to think on what exactly might be bothering her, and then he realized that they had both not said a word to each other since they started to eat dinner.
He did not know why that was making her so worried, silence was not bad, except if she felt uncomfortable due to his presence, if that was true then he would not lie to cause her any discomfort in any way.
To be honest, Mero did not have the slightest idea of what to say to start a conversation, he was not someone that was very skilled at talking, he preferred silence, but he also cared about Wura and the things that made her worry made him worry.
"Is something the matter Wura?" asked Mero as he had no idea of another way to go about breaking the silence.
"Oh... no...nothing is wrong Mero." replied Wura as she smiled, she lied right through her teeth, she wondered what Mero would think of her if she said that she was worried by the silence.
"I see, so what do you plan on doing tomorrow?" he asked as Wura smiled.
"Well I am not really sure, I might go and visit more people, and visit the people recovering as well, and maybe play with the children some more." said Wura as she smiled.
"That sounds like your day will be full tomorrow." said Mero as Wura chuckled.
"Well not really." she replied.
"But it will be, trust me, the people are going to be delighted to know that you will be spending a few more days with them." said Mero as he smiled.
"I guess so, but I do miss everyone back at the camp, especially Nora." said Wura as she smiled.
"I know... it is normal to miss them." said Mero as Wura nodded and she asked a question she knew that she should never have asked.
"Do you miss Nora as well?" she asked before she could even think about the consequences of asking such a question.
She could see the clear look of indifference in Mero's eyes, she was unsure if it was directed towards her or to the question. She honestly had no right to ask about Mero's feelings about Nora.
"If I am being honest... yes, I miss her." replied Mero simply and swiftly, he did not even seem upset that she had asked him such a question.
"Oh I see... that is only normal as well." said Wura, she did not know what exactly she was expecting to hear. Was it no? Or was it yes? She did not know why she felt a bit sad internally, she did not know why she felt this way.
In all honesty, Mero did not lie when he said that he missed Nora, he did, but certainly not in a way one would miss their beloved. He could say that he missed seeing her every day. It was a custom for them to greet each other every morning, to see each other briefly.
Mero was unsure if saying that he missed their routine would be the right explanation for why he said that he missed her.
"Yes." said Mero as he wanted to say something else, but he chose not to, he did not want to ruin the serene atmosphere at the moment by mentioning something that was sure to sour Wura's mood.
The rest of the dinner went on as Mero bade Wura goodnight before leaving her tent and as soon as he left Wura returned to scolding herself for asking such a question.
Nora was her friend, and she and Mero were in a relationship, just what did she he would say to her.
If he had given her an answer other than the one he gave her, she would have immediately confronted him... or maybe she was just lying to herself... at this point, she was not sure what to think.
Wura sighed and proceeded to clear her head, it was better that she go to sleep before something she did not want to think about entered her mind.
The next day.
Wura woke up very early today, she prepared herself for the day. She made sure to eat breakfast quickly and she set out in the morning, but of course not on her own.
She asked that a guard be with her at all times. All this she did without Mero's knowledge, to be honest, she did not want to face him after the question she asked him last night.
To an outsider, it might not have seemed as a very serious question, but as far as the relationship between the two of them went, they could not lie that they both understood the underlying meaning of that question.
Wura was neither ready nor prepared to face those underlying meanings, she concluded that it would be best to leave things as they are, and never mention them again. She was sure that after a day of minimal contact between she and Mero, by the time they saw each other again, all would be forgotten.
Wura was serious when she said that she intended to visit more people and that she did. She could tell you that she had lost count of the amount of people she had visited and greeted and yet she had not reached half the camp yet.
At noon, she decided to take a break, her throat was parched from all the talking and the muscles of her face were sore from all the smiling and laughing that she did.
She took a quick break, and she had a quick lunch before deciding to check on the people recovering, she did that and on her way back to her tent, she saw the children playing outside, they greeted her and she greeted them jovially.
She was exhausted already, but she still wanted to play with them, so instead she opted to tell them one quick story before leaving and retreating to her tent.
At the end of her long day, she thanked the dutiful guard that had followed her up and down on her several errands today, to which he replied that it was his duty.
Wura sighed as she changed into a white nightgown, the sun had already set, and she was not really hungry, she preferred to just go to sleep already.
Wura looked at her reflection in the mirror, her hair was starting to get frizzy and that annoyed her. She did not want to look unkept so she proceeded to unbraid her hair as she combed through it for the first time in four days.
While Wura was busy brushing her hair, she suddenly heard a great loud rumble in the sky as she was startled and she looked around, wondering what that was.
In the midst of her wondering she heard another rumble that was followed with the sound of rain as she was surprised.
She stood up quickly and walked to the entrance of her tent and pulled it back as she was surprised to see that it was raining.
"It is raining??" she asked in complete disbelief.
She stretched out her hand as raindrops fell on her palm and she retracted her hand... it really was raining... in summer!
It was very strange to say the least. Wura did not know what to think about this, she only hoped that the rain would be a short shower instead of a heavy downpour so that the people in tents would not suffer.
