Chapter 482 - Locked up

"Thank you Wura." said Mero as he smiled, he did not know what else he could say, but he surely liked Wura's effort at showing that she was understanding. He was relieved that she understood how delicate their situation was.

The truth was that he would be able to rest easier if she seemed calm and alright, and all he wanted in the end was that she would be alright.

"You do not have to thank me Mero, I understand how serious things are, and how serious they can become." said Wura as she smiled and Mero smiled.

"So what do you plan on doing today?" asked Mero as now that they had cleared up all their doubts, his next concern was on what Wura would do to keep herself busy.

He knew that she hated to be idle, she loved to be busy, she loved having something to do, and even if she visited everyone in the camp, he knew that ultimately she would be lonely and tired and as much as he wished to keep her company, he could not be around her at all times. He had to work on plans in order to evade any dangerous situation and he would rather do that while Wura was not present.

"Well I really do not know Mero..." said Wura honestly as she sighed.

"Today has been rather stressful and the day has not even begun yet." said Wura.

"If I am being honest, I would have liked to visit some more people today and go see the people that are still recovering, but..." said Wura as her voice trailed off.

"But what?" asked Mero.

"But I really do not think that I am in the right mind to do such a thing, I feel better now, no doubt about that, but I do not want to stress myself any further." said Wura as she sighed and Mero agreed with her.

"So what would you rather do today?" asked Mero.

"Well nothing really, since we still have a few days to stay here and we are uncertain if that might be more, I think that we have more time and there is no need for me to rush anything." said Wura.

"I do not plan on going anywhere today, I prefer to just stay here and get some rest." said Wura as she could not lie that she had not seen the relieved look on Mero's face when she had said that.

Mero did not want to make her upset by suggesting that she take things easy today, but considering the fact that there were Eastern soldiers in the area, it was better if she stayed put in one place, even though there were more than enough guards around to protect her if she wished to move around, but Mero was not one who like taking risks, it would be better that she stayed here.

But Mero, knowing how Wura would react to such a suggestion decided to keep his idea to himself, so imagine his surprise and relief when Wura herself said that she would prefer to stay inside her tent today.

Wura smiled internally, she had known what exactly Mero was thinking, and she liked that he had enough respect and regard for her that he did not make his suggestion, instead he kept it to himself and made her choose for herself what she would like to do.

To be honest, Wura would be naive to downplay how serious this situation was. Just one crazy leader and the entire Eastern soldiers lined up in the outskirts of the town would attack and they were not fully equipped in neither weaponry or enough soldiers to defend themselves.

So if they wanted to, they could attack and things would end up messy, but they did not decide to attack, they just decided to stay in wait for her.

As much as she said that she was alright, she was still a little bit scared, and for the sake of her safety and the safety of others, she decided that it would be best that she stayed in her tent today. Besides, she was not lying when she told Mero that she was tired, she truly was tired.

She had woken up quite early today in order to prepare for the long journey ahead, and she honestly felt like sleeping some more.

"Alright Wura, if that is your decision then you have my full support." said Mero as Wura chuckled.

"Oh please Mero, do not pretend as if you are not pleased by my choice." said Wura.

"If it was up to you, you would have had me locked up in here the entire day if I insisted on going out today." said Wura as she laughed but she did not hear Mero laughing, which caused her to look up at him.

She saw him looking far from pleased with a very serious look on his face, and in the most sincere tone she had ever heard, he said: "I would never lock you up."

The sheer sincerity and sternness in his tone told Wura that she had used the wrong choice of words.

"Are you sure?" asked Wura as she already knew the answer to that question and yet she still found herself asking, she did not know why she felt like testing him and all the words he said.

"You have to know Wura that everything I do, I do to protect you. However, as much I want to protect you, if it ever comes down to physically harming you or stopping you from doing the things you would like to do, I would never do that to you." said Mero seriously.

He did not look offended, rather he looked as if he needed to get this point across to her.

"I would never hurt you... never." he said, his resolve so strong that Wura stopped laughing and she looked at him, seeing the sincerity in his eyes.

"Thank you Mero... I know that you would never." said Wura as Mero nodded.

"I apologize, I should not have said that, it might have offended you." said Wura because if she had learnt anything, it was that, it was far better for her to clear things up with Mero immediately before more misunderstandings resurfaced.

"No, you do not have to apologize Wura, I understand, and you did not offend me, if you said that it is because you have at least thought about that occurring before, the least I can do is assure you that things would never come to that, I would never do that to you." said Mero.

"I know Mero, and that is why I am thanking you." said Wura as she smiled and reached out to hold his hand.

She did not know why she did that, and in the moment she was not really thinking about it, but she felt as if he needed a hug, he was so loyal, and so protective of her that it made her smile, she really valued his presence in her life.

"Thank you for everything." she said as she gently put his hand down and Mero looked at her hand that had just left his.

"You do not have to thank me." he said as he cleared his throat and came back to his senses.

"Well I have to go now and attend to some things, some guards will be stationed around your tent, but not close enough to disturb you." said Mero.

"Please rest well and I will come and see you as soon as I can." said Mero as it sounded as if he was in a rush and that he was.

He was in a rush to get out of here before he started to get those strange thoughts of his. He did not need himself overthinking and underthinking, it seemed that he had been doing a lot of that lately these days and when he tried to find out the reason, he could only think of one... Wura.

"If you need anything, do not hesitate to call me." said Mero calmly.

"Alright Mero, thank you, I will not hesitate at all, and see you later." said Wura happily and Mero turned around and left.

Wura sighed as she took off her boots and ran her fingers through her hair that she had let remain braided, she was tired and she really did want to return back to the camp, but oh well, things did not always turn out the way you wanted.

Wura walked to the bed and she sat down on it, she sighed before lying down and she closed her eyes.

She was not lying when she said that she was tired. She was truly tired, her eyes instantly felt heavy and she could feel slumber washing all over her.

In a matter of minutes she was already fast asleep, allowed to forget all her problems for a few hours.
