Mero turned his gaze from Wura to the guard. Judging from the rather serious look present on the guard's face, it was clear that this had to be something very serious.
"What is it?" asked Mero as the guard glanced at Wura, as if afraid to speak of the matter in her presence.
Mero could already guess what the guard was thinking from that singular gaze, and he was about to tell the guard to go ahead and he will catch up with him later so they could speak privately. But then he remembered the conversation he had with Wura yesterday on their way here.
She wanted him to be more transparent with her, to include her in things that were happening because she had every right to be informed. He knew that was true, and he had agreed with her that from now on he would. So he decided that there was no point hiding anything. Wura would end up knowing eventually.
"Whatever it is you can say it here in front of the Queen." said Mero as the guards eyes widened at what he had heard.
He did not mean to be disrespectful to the Queen, but it was an early morning, he did not want to disturb her, and from what he knew, things that pertained situations such as these were to be reported to Mero and not to the Queen.
Nevertheless who was he to decide what the Queen should hear and not hear? Mero had already expressed that he say whatever he has to say in front of the Queen.
He could see Wura looking at him with questioning eyes, but she did not say anything at all. She just stood there quietly observing. She could tell that something serious was going on, but she was not going to be immature by demanding that whatever the matter was, should be reported to her.
"Well Sir Mero, it is just that we have observed some unusual activity east from Windharm, although it is nothing too serious, I just thought to inform you. The guards are having a meeting to discuss what the next course of action should be, and we would appreciate it if you were present to give us some sense of direction." said the guard as Mero could see clearly that he had shortened his words and reduced the sense of urgency he had a moment ago.
"I see..." said Mero as he seemed to be thinking.
"Yes Sir Mero, once again please forgive me for interrupting your morning, I will take my leave now." said the guard.
"My Queen, I am sorry for interrupting your morning just like this, forgive me, I assure you it will not happen again." said the guard as he turned to Wura and bowed.
"It is alright." replied Wura as the guard left and she turned to look at Mero.
"So what do you think about the unusual activity?" asked Wura as Mero looked at her.
"I do not think that it is something so serious that we should be vividly worried about, but regardless, the guard seemed seriously worried, so I feel that it is best we take precautions, no matter how small." said Mero seriously as Wura nodded, thinking the same thing.
"I agree with you, so what are you going to do?" asked Wura.
"I plan on riding to the area where the guards have seen such unusual activity to check for myself." said Mero as Wura looked worried.
"Well alright, but please do not go alone, go with some other guards, at least two." said Wura with worry evident in her tone.
Mero did not know why hearing her words of worry towards him was making him smile.
"I was not planning on going alone, it might be too dangerous, you do not have to worry about me Wura." said Mero as he smiled.
"Of course I worry, I do not want anyone getting hurt and that includes you." said Wura as Mero smile.
"I will be alright, if anything I apologize that I will not be able to have breakfast with you." said Mero.
"Oh that is alright Mero, this is something serious that needs to be taken care of, I will be alright." said Wura as she smiled, although she was a bit sad that she would be eating alone, she was not going to be unreasonable, this was something serious that she would rather have taken care of sooner than later.
"I will make sure to return quickly so I can accompany you while you do the things you want to do today." said Mero as he smiled.
"Thank you Mero, but you do not have to rush, I will wait till you get back." replied Wura with a smile.
The least she could do was be mature and show that she could be understanding and considerate. After all she was not the one that caused Mero to have to attend to this alarm. Although she had many things that she wanted to do today, she could wait a little bit for Mero before rushing to do anything.
To Wura, Mero was a very essential team member, so she needed him, even though she would not say it in such a manner in front of him.
"Alright Wura, enjoy breakfast." said Mero as he smiled.
"I will." replied Wura as she smiled and Mero walked away, his steps swift, with aim and unconsciously there was a happy smile plastered on his face and he did not even know why.
...
Wura sighed as she finished eating breakfast. She had dawdled while eating breakfast since she wanted to wait for Mero. It was not even hard for her to do so, she was just so bored and the food was tasteless to her.
She could not help but keep on reminiscing about the wonderful dinner she had with Adelias and her children last night. She missed hearing voices other than her own, she missed not being alone with her thoughts, she missed having someone to talk to.
Wura quickly stopped thinking so sadly, because she knew that no matter the several reasons that caused her to feel this way, they would inevitable eventually move to one, and that was, she missed her husband Liam, so much.
It had gotten easier and yet harder at the same time to try to forget him. It was not so much that she was forgetting him, but more like she was forcing her memories of him to recede to the back of her mind, just so she would be able to move on with her days in peace and not in constant heartache of where he was, if he was okay, if he was eating well, if he remembered her.
All those thoughts were what she was trying so desperately to avoid. Yet when she was alone in times like these, she found herself wondering, worrying feeling pain.
Wura let out another sad sigh as she closed her eyes and heard footsteps approaching her.
"Wura are you alright?" asked Mero as Wura opened her eyes and saw his brown concern filled eyes looking at her.
"Mero you are back already, that was quick." said Wura with a smile, quickly displacing the sombre mood from her face changing it into a happy one.
"Yes, are you alright?" asked Mero again as his eyes watched her intently, just a moment ago, he could see severe agony all over her face. He could see just so much pain resting on her delicate face as she thought she was alone.
"Oh I am fine Mero." she replied jovially.
"Are you sure Wura? Because when I arrived you looked like you were not alright." said Mero with a frown.
"I am fine Mero, I guess that I was just thinking, but I am alright now." said Wura as she stood up and smiled, she could see how worried Mero looked, but she did not want to talk to him about this right now, there were better things to do.
"So what happened? Did you see any unusual activity?" asked Wura as she quickly changed the subject, not liking how worried Mero looked even though she knew that he meant nothing but good.
"Well there was nothing really unusual when I went to check, although I did see tracks of horses and carriages." said Mero as Wura frowned.
"Really?" asked Wura as Mero nodded.
"Well that is rather unsettling, and you are sure that those are not tracks from our men?" asked Wura as Mero shook his head.
"Highly unlikely that they are from our men, firstly, we do not use that route in the first place, and secondly the size of the wheels on the carriages is not the ones that are used on our carriages." said Mero as the more he spoke the more Wura's worry exceedingly increase.
"Do you think that just maybe we have an idea of who those tracks may belong to?" asked Wura as she took a deep breath, fearing the answer that Mero would give her.
"Yes, I think it is the East once again." replied Mero as Wura sighed, dreading that he had said that.
