Chereads / Betrothed To The Prince / Chapter 474 - Goodnight

Chapter 474 - Goodnight

Wura did not know why she felt so nervous, but the way that Mero was looking at her... it was clear that he was listening, but she wondered if her message was getting through to him.

If he believed her and all her words. She hoped that he could at least see how serious her words were and how honest she was being. She did not just want him to accept her apology for the sake of peace. She wanted him to accept her apology because he could see that she really was sorry.

Wura's breath hitched as she waited patiently for Mero to reply to her, while her eyes searched his face for any hint of what he might be thinking, but as always he kept his face plain and clear from any emotion.

Mero was always hard to read sometimes, especially when you did not know him, he only revealed his thoughts and opinions to people close to him. His true character was reserved for those who could only see it, the multitude of true expressions on his face were rarely seen by outsiders.

But Wura, she had been free enough with him to see those sides of him, and that was why she felt so close to him, he had also seen her in several unpleasant situations and his thoughts towards her had never changed, and that was why she was sure that they had a level of understanding between them that they did not have with anyone else.

That was why she valued this relationship with Mero so much, he had been a pillar of support for her for such a long time, and ever since this whole situation with Liam started, he had been there as a confidant, she did not want to lose the relationship that they had.

Wura's heart was beating faster every passing second that Mero just sat there, looking at her, saying nothing at all. She had started to think that she had caused more damage than she had realized, Mero was really angry to the extent that he was not saying anything.

"I..." said Wura as she was about to stand up and leave when Mero suddenly snapped into his senses, remembering that she had asked him a question— to forgive her. The truth was that he doubted he was even angry anymore, it was just that he was dealing with all the insane thoughts in his head and that was why he did not answer her.

"I forgive you my Queen... I understand that at the end of the day, you mean no harm, you just want to do what you think is right." said Mero as he finally spoke up.

"And even though I do not say it, I admire that you can stand up for what you think is right, even though there are many things against you." said Mero as Wura turned to look at him, her wide brown eyes, she was surprised that he did not sound angry anymore, his voice sounded soft and understanding.

"If anything, I should be the one to apologize for my behaviour... all you wanted to do was to render your help to everyone that needs it, and you did nothing wrong by accepting to attend this dinner." said Mero.

"I apologize for being in a bad mood, you wanted to do what you like for once and I almost stopped you." said Mero.

"I know you meant well Mero, and I am sorry too, for accusing you of being so untrustworthy to think that you would not come and wake me up, it was silly of me to think that." said Wura apologetically as she looked down and she heard Mero chuckle lightly.

"Well I cannot blame you, I have been in a rather foul mood since noon, it was only logical that you thought that way." said Mero as Wura looked up at him, seeing the smile on his face as she chuckled as well.

"Well I guess so, but still, you are not the kind of person to do that, especially not to me." she said as the way she put her words pleased Mero.

"I guess we were both making each other upset today and I will try to be more lenient." said Mero as he smiled.

"Thank you Mero, and I will try to be more lenient as well." replied Wura as she smiled and she felt so relieved the atmosphere just suddenly felt so much lighter since she apologized and Mero accepted her apology.

"So are you ready to leave now Wura?" asked Mero as Wura did not dare miss the sudden change in the way he addressed her, so she was back to Wura now and not 'my Queen' if that was not enough indication that he truly had forgiven her then she did not know what was.

"Well yes, but first I have to speak to Adelias it would be rude to leave just like that without saying goodbye." said Wura as she smiled brightly at Mero and he nodded, agreeing with her completely.

As if Adelias had heard their conversation she suddenly returned from taking care of the dishes.

"Oh my Queen, I completely forgot that you were still here, I would have returned sooner." said Adelias as she smiled, it was late and she was sure that Wura and her guard would want to leave now, but Wura was not one to leave just like that without any courtsey.

"It is fine Adelias, I know that you were busy." said Wura as she smiled.

"Thank you my Queen, I know that it is late and you must be tired, I just want to thank you for coming it means a lot to me my Queen." said Adelias as she smiled and Wura smiled and stood up as she gave Adelias a hug.

"No, thank you for inviting me Adelias." said Wura as she smiled and broke their hug.

"I surely would like to see you again and your lovely children." said Wura as she smiled.

"You are always welcome here my Queen." replied Adelias with a smile.

"Goodnight my Queen, goodnight sir Mero, and please enjoy the rest of the evening." said Adelias with a smile as Mero stood up and nodded acknowledging her words.

"Goodnight Adelias and enjoy the rest of the evening too." replied Wura as she smiled one more time before turning around and walked away as Mero followed behind her while Adelias entered her tent to check on her children.

Mero and Wura walked silently through the quiet camp, half of the fires had been put out as some were already asleep and some were not.

Wura glanced up into the deep dark blue sky, there were barely any stars out tonight, but at least the moon was, or else the night sky would have been left bare.

As Wura and Mero walked there was a prolonged silence between them. Not because it was uncomfortable, but because it was peaceful.

The silence between them was peaceful, happy, there was no need for words, just being together was enough, or at least that was what Wura thought, even if Mero did not think that way, it did not bother her at all, she was just at peace with the way things were between Mero and her.

Mero on the other hands felt no need to say anything, with what Wura said, he felt better about their relationship, it made him remember that there was a type of relationship they had that he did not have with anyone else, and that made him feel appreciated.

As they continued walking Wura could only think about how nice the sky was tonight, and how cool it was as well, she felt a little bit cold, if not for the fact that her dress was long sleeved she would have been shivering by now.

As they finally left the outskirts of the camp, they walked on the path back to Wura's tent. Wura was quick to notice that the path was not dark at all, instead it was illuminated by long wooden torches that were place by each side of the path for everyone to see where they were going.

Wura thought that the light made the path seem more comely and neat. Wura could not lie, she was in such a good mood after dinner, she felt like she was young again, even though she was not that old to begin with, but tonight's dinner brought back some very fond memories of hers.

Wura could already see her tent in the distance as they walked closer and closer to it. She was about to turn to Mero and wish him a goodnight when she saw something that caught her eyes.

Wura blinked twice and rubbed her eyes as she tried to make sure she was not seeing things... because if she was not seeing things how come there was another tent close to hers that was set up, she had not seen it before.

Wura quickly turned to look at Mero with confusion written all over her face.

"Mero can you also see that tent over there or not?" asked Wura as she pointed in the direction of the tent.
