The box opened due to the fall, and something fell out from it. Picking it up, I unwrap the warm thing.
"Wow." I lick my lips in anticipation as I saw what it is that was inside the box I took.
Not for the first time, but I was grateful I took the box.
"Thank you, Devil," I whispered as I made quick work of the bun and doughnuts I found in it, and drank the water from the small water container I found in the same box.
The devil was considerate when he packed the meal. He must have been aware of how famished I was when we left, as we had no chance to eat breakfast.
Besides the meal I ate last night, nothing else has gone into my stomach, not even water.
With my breakfast, I decide to take a rest, at least until the hotness of the sun diminishes a bit.
Only then will I continue with my journey to practically nowhere.
I dozed off, only to wake up when I heard a sound next to me.
Slowly opening my eyes, I hastily sat up when I saw who was sitting on the tree trunk.
"What are you doing here?" I swallow deeply as I discreetly looked for a means of escape.
He might have caught up with me, but that doesn't mean I'll allow him to take me back to those yellow demons who're undoubtedly waiting for his return, with me, of course.
"I came searching for my rebellious wife. Did you by chance see any young, cute male-run past here?" He raised a brow in question.
" No, I didn't. It'll be better for you to return the way you came. The male likely doesn't want to be caught by the Devil."
" It's a pity," he slowly shook his head," am not one who gives up easily. Should the male not want me, that doesn't mean I'll leave without him.
I'm here to take him back, and when I do, I'll teach him not to ever escape from me. I'll make sure I keep him safe with me all the time."
I scoffed at his words," says the male who wants to give me over to those hideous yellow demons." I shiver as I thought about those yellow demons.
Compared to the Devil, I find them more frightening.
"Yellow demons?" He asked confused, before his face dawned in realization, "you're talking of those wannabe yellow troupe demons?" He laughed at that.
"What's funny?" I rose to my feet, eyes dashing around us, I tried to formulate a plan as fast as I can.
I don't know how he got to find me despite the routes I took to successfully evade him, but this time should I manage to escape.
I'll make sure I hide in a place where he can't see me, and neither can he find me.
"Those demons want to be the king of flames. They ambushed me in the hopes of getting me to relinquish my title to them." He said in an unconcerned tone.
" And what are you planning to do?"
"What I am planning to do?" Scoffing, he stood from the tree trunk and walked towards me, his eyes trained on mine as he took those predatory steps.
"I'm not planning on anything, love, I've already taken care of them." He came a bit closer to me, a smirk on his face, "you thought I'll give you over to those yellow demons? Was that the reason you ran away?" Close enough, he lightly touched my cheeks, a smile gracing his face for the first time since I met him.
My heart almost lunged out of my chest from how handsome and human he looked with the smile.
He looks more handsome than he was before. The hard planes of his face became lighter and more relaxed.
The feeling I got from his touch, and the thoughts I have in mind, alarmed me greatly.
" What did you want me to think then? Demons like you are can't be trusted. There's no telling what you're capable of doing." I frown at him.
Expertly trying to stop me from thinking of how handsome the devil is, and how soothing his touch on my cheek is.
" Demons can't be trusted?" He scoffed but didn't cease to touch my cheeks. " What about humans?" He raised a questioning brow," can humans be trusted?
" Of course, we can be trusted!" I answer without much thought about that," who said we can't be trusted? Have we given you a reason to show we can't be trusted?" I challenged with my eyes.
" I was promised a bride when he clocks eighteen, but my so-called human bride is trying to escape from me every little chance he gets.
Tell me, wise man, can humans he trusted at all." He expertly webbed me in and made it, so I wouldn't know how well to untangle myself for the web.
" It's…"
" You see, I don't think any of the species can be trusted except if there's something between them. Something that can blossom into trust." He lightly said, bringing his face a bit closer to me.
" What…" I swallow deeply as all thoughts momentarily left me.
I don't know the reason for my frozen sake. I don't know if it's linked to the fact his words caused something emotional in me, or the proximity of his face to mine.
I don't know the cause of it, but am quite aware of the fact my mind is on another plane. Probably trying to make out the reason I'm this way.
"What? Unable to talk?" The Devil smirked but didn't make any move to raise his face. He just kept on watching me, his eyes locking to mine before it trails to my mouth.
"What…"
"Let's continue with our journey. We need to be in my realm before nightfall." He pecked me on my mouth before he started walking back towards our carriage.
I stood there, shell shocked as I slowly rubbed my lips. A sort of electricity zapped through me as I did so.
