"Oh…." I nervously swallowed as I tried to search for an escape route.
"Why have you been avoiding me?"
"No reason at all." I turn my face to the side, not desiring to see his face at all.
"You Just decided not to show your face to me. For fun?" He raised a brow.
"Take it as whatever you will." I fold my arms, but still didn't turn to look at him.
Currently, I can't do anything to jeopardize myself, and looking at him will cause that.
I don't want my mind to go down the lane of thinking him hot in the suit he's putting on.
No.
I can't allow myself to go down the path that seems to be one of no return.
"Why aren't you looking at me?"
"I don't feel like doing that, or do you want me to look at you?" I turn entire attention to him when I asked the question.
"Is this what you want? To have me look at you?" I purse my lips.
"It's." He looked down at the file in his hands before he placed it on the table and turned to me. "That's the file to fill for your registration. The rest will be done online when I return from work."
"Registration?" I place both hands on my waist while I glare at him. "What are you registering me for?"
"You said you wanted to live your life, Right? Do you want to attend a university?
The file is there for you to fill."
With those words said, he left.
But not before banging the door after himself.
I stood rooted on the floor for a long time as I kept on looking at the file as if it were something alien that decided to make an appearance.
Could it be true?
I look at the file, but made no move to go closer to it.
Is this true?
No.
It's too good to be true. There's no way Sly will willingly allow me to study. There must be a loophole somewhere.
Yes, that's the case.
But despite knowing it might be a trap of some kind, I walk to the table and picked up the file.
I went closer to the book and took it up.

Minutes later, I'm through with the form filling and signing.
Having read through the entire thing, I realized that it's not as fake as I thought it was.
The university in question is a private university that's not too far from here, and it can be walked to on foot, should I care for that.
"What's the secret." Marli brightly smiled when she saw me.
"Which secret." Closing the file, I look up at her.
"For two days now, I've not seen you, and neither have you tried contacting me." She accused.
"I'm sorry about that." I look down in guilt, "I was just licking my wounds."
I know I shouldn't have done this to her.
Sly was the one who made me angry, so by default he's the one I should have vented my frustration out at.
I shouldn't have taken it out on poor Marli, and neither should I have ghosted on her.
"It's okay. I understand your feelings, but that doesn't mean I understand your reasons for doing so." She frowned before it turned into a smile, "so tell me, what's the secret of your smiling face." She gave me a look that seems to say I better say the truth, else she'll have to torture the truth out of me.
"Look!" Unable to contain my happiness, I showed her the file.
"What's in it?" She gave the file a curious stare, "your divorce papers?" She dramatically gasped at the question.
"Get your mind out of whatever world it is," I roll my eyes at her. "You think Sly will let me go easily?"
The truth is this, I don't think Sly will ever let me go, at least not until I get the money to pay back to him.
Getting married to me caused him a fortune, as my stepmother had me given over to him in exchange for help.
"If not a divorce paper, tell me what it is." She gives the file a curious glare, but made no move to take it from me.
She made it seem like she'll disappear should her hand touch the file I have in hand.
"Just open it and see." I roll my eyes at her, "stop acting like a baby."
"I can't help but feel sceptical."
"Just open it up. It won't bite, I promise." I wink at her.
"Joking apart Lee, should this be something strange, and not time worthy. I swear to the supreme being, I'll castrate you."
" Promises, promises." I tsk at her words," Your threats don't phase me at all." I made a motion of cleaning my shirt as if tidbits of her words fell on my body.
" Watch and see." Opening the file, she read through the first page, and her eyes widened.
" Don't tell me…." She looked wide-eyed at the book before turning her attention to me.
"Of course," I nod.
"You got an admission into this prestigious university?" She shouts.
"Of course I did." I proudly smile, "this is just the form. I haven't gotten an admission yet, but that doesn't mean I'm not hoping for one."
" How possible is this? How did you get the admission? Who helped you? Does your husband know of this? What did he say?" She asked these successions of questions without taking a breath in between them.
" Who do think got the admission for me?"
"Don't tell me…."
"I was equally surprised about this. Never in my wildest imaginations, will I have thought of something like this."?
Seriously, I've cut all hopes of attending a university.
" Sly did this? Are you certain, or just pulling my legs?"
" Why should I pull your legs? Sly gave this to me this morning. This must be his way of an apology."
" Oh my God! I'm so happy for you!" Marli dropped the file and enveloped me in a hug.
