Chapter 15 - Painless death

Shane knew that whatever owned the body he was inside of did not want it destroyed. And that it contained powers he couldn't comprehend, but how come no one had recognized him yet?

"Your case is unusual, so the Elders are looking into it, and until then you'll have to remain here," Nyx stated as she stood up from her chair;

"I'll be leaving now." I just came to see if you were okay. "

"Thanks for stopping by. What of Sky and Tatiana? "

"No one is allowed to come here. I could only see you because I know the physician, but not to worry, the Elders will make their decision soon and you'll be out of here in no time. "

Shane sighed, "Thank you."

After Nyx left, he lay back in bed and closed his eyes. His body still ached from all the beatings from yesterday, but it felt a little better now, like what took over him yesterday also healed his body a little.

Shane closed his eyes to sleep. After a few minutes, he opened them abruptly, his heart beating fast.

Raising his hand to his eye level, he froze. His skin was transparent and he could see his veins, a whitish fluid that looked like lightning, moved so fast.

What the fuck?

Shane couldn't believe his eyes. The more excited he became, the more visible it was.

He tried covering his hand, but it glowed from underneath the clothes. Thankfully, no one was in the room, so he had time to deal with the situation.

Standing up from the bed, he breathed in and out, trying to calm himself.

His body felt like lightning bolts were zipping about inside of his body at a rapid speed.

Something that seemed like lightning emanated from the tips of his fingers. This was getting out of control. So many things were happening at the same time. First, it was the situation at the field, and now this?!

Shane closed his eyes, evening his breath, and he tried to control the flow of energy to his arm. He took a few breaths in and then exhaled through his mouth.

After a while, he opened his eyes, and it was gone. His hand was back to normal.

Shane sighed as he sat down back on the bed, staring at his hand.

It seemed this body had more powers than he could imagine.

Does this mean that the soul was trying to reclaim its body?

Shane's heart panted at the thought of this. What will happen to him when that happens?

Shiro walked into the meeting hall where the council was waiting. The Elders had taken a few days to conclude on what to do and finally; they decided.

Calling on Shiro, they relayed the message to him to tell the others.

Shiro walked to his seat and sat down. "The Elders have decided," he spoke,

"The boy would live on one condition," he paused, looking at the others,

"What is it?" Ethan inquired, his brow furrowed;

"That he learns to control his power."

They said it might not be a wise decision to kill him. Higher-ranking demons are being unleashed. The very last thing we want is to kill one of our own. So if he can control his powers and not drain any descendants, then he can live. "

Eve rolled her eyes and leaned back in her chair. She was not in support of the Elders' decision, but she said nothing.

"Do you have any objections?" "Not like it matters anyway," he said, standing up from his seat.

"Who is going to be the pawn?"

Margaret inquired. She was a quiet one and barely spoke, but no one asked the most important question.

There was silence,

"He has to touch someone in order to determine if he's going to drain their mana. The question is, who is it going to be?"

"That is true. And we cannot force anyone to volunteer themselves. " Zuko pointed out,

"Well, why don't Rue volunteer? "

She's been trying her best to save his life, by all means, necessary," Eve scoffed. "Let's see if you'll still have that smug look on when he sends you two ranks down." Eve, who never failed to get on Rue's bad side, commented, a chuckle leaving her lips.

Rue just looked at her but did not reply. That morning, she was particularly not in the mood for any arguments.

"Well, if no one offers, then we assume he cannot control his powers and he will be killed," Shiro said;

"You can't just conclude that," Rue said, and Shiro turned to her.

"Then do you volunteer yourself?" He asked, and she pursed her lips, not able to say a word. It was difficult to get mana. No one wanted to lose it so easily like that. Seeing that Rue was quiet, Shiro nodded;

"I thought as much. This meeting has officially ended. Ethan, please address the other descendants. Let's know if anyone wants to volunteer. Give them a week to decide.

After a week, we have no choice but to end him and put this behind us for good.

Four days later…

Sky and Tatiana sat in front of Shane, an odd silence between them.

"You know, I can help, it's..."

"Will you just keep quiet? You barely have enough mana to move your form. What do you think will happen to you when Shane touches you?"

Sky cut Tatiana off.

''But if someone doesn't, he's going to die. It's been four days! "

She yelled.

"The higher descendants will figure something out." Let's calm down for now. We have three days. At the end of the week, if no one steps forward, then we'll know what to do. But for now, we don't want to do anything stupid. " Sky reprimanded.

Shane sighed, "It's fine. I don't mind dying, anyway. Besides, I don't want to hurt anyone."

"We still have three days. Don't give up already."

Shane was about to reply when the door opened, and Nyx walked into the ward. They all turned to her.

"Nyx..." Tatiana called,

Nyx walked up to them and shook her head.

"I'm afraid you're going to die. No one is coming to save you. " She said, folding her arms.

"I guess so. Please, does the council have a poison that induces painless death? It won't be fair to beat me to death. I've done nothing wrong. "

Nyx chuckled, "Well, they do. But you'll first survive dying at my hands. "

Shane blinked at her words, and Tatiana's eyes widened;

"Nyx! You're going to save him! " She jumped from where she sat.

"Well, no. He's only going to live if I don't kill him in the process. "

Tatiana jumped up and hugged Nyx in excitement; "Thank you! Nyx! You're our hero! "

Tatiana beamed excitedly, and Shane stood up with a smile,

"You've helped me a lot. I don't know how to thank you enough."

He said.

"Well, start by being prompt at the field by 8 pm tonight."
