Shane was already waiting at the field before 8. When Nyx saw him, she laughed.
"You're early,"
"I have no other place to be."
"Hmm. ," she smiled as she approached him. "Now I'm here, why do I feel I've made a stupid decision?"
She inquired with a smile.
Shane sighed. He wanted to be able to control himself, not because of anyone, but because of the faith she had in him. Even when everyone had given up on him, she still believed he was good.
"I won't disappoint you, I promise." He said, and Nyx smiled. Now she was close, he looked at her wrist,
34,523…
That was a lot. He imagined how many monsters she had to kill to get there, and yet she was putting it all in line for him.
"Hold me…" Nyx spoke, looking into his eyes. Shane breathed out shakily. Raising both hands, he grasped her neck, his heartbeat increasing rapidly;
A few seconds passed, and Nyx peeked at the back of her wrist. There was no change in her mana.
"I guess simply touching someone is not enough to drain their mana. Now we have to fight. Let's see how well you can control yourself when you're in a fight."
Without a notice, Nyx gave him an uppercut, sending Shane flying into the air. Shane fell to the ground. Panting, he stood up and wiped the side of his lips. When he looked at his hand, he saw blood.
He looked at Nyx and her hands were covered in flames_ she was going to use her powers to fight him.
Shane thought for a second and then looked at his arm. The moment he thought about using his strength, both arms glowed and lightning burst from his fingertips.
Nyx was shocked. "When did you have that?"
She asked,
"I noticed it at the hospital. I have practiced controlling it, and only when I want to use it does it appear,"
"That's impressive. Now let's see what you can do with that."
Nyx raised her hands and thrust them forward and the flames that were in her hands created four fire boomerangs which then flew in Shane's direction;
Before they could strike him, Shane lifted his hands and unleashed a bolt of lightning at them. He could only hit one as three of the boomerangs evaded his attack, moving far behind him, they came for him again, this time Shane hit two of them, and one burnt a part of his hair before going out.
Shane touched the part of his hair that was burnt, but before he could cry over it, Nyx had formed another attack;
Boom!
Fireballs hurled themselves at Shane at breakneck speed from the flame that Nyx was controlling.
Shane's mouth opened, "Are you trying to kill me!" He screamed as he evaded the balls of fire. Shane noticed he had become much faster. He was simply avoiding the balls normally, but to the eyes of a human, he was extremely fast.
Shane's blood boiled as he raised his hand to the air and pushed his hands towards Nyx;
Five streaks of lightning darted towards her, and she leaped up, evading them. She ran to him and hit his chest with her hand;
Boom!!
A bright light shone from Shane's chest as he fell to the ground.
"Stand up." She said;
Shane lay still on the ground, unable to move.
Nyx watched him and panicked when she saw he was not moving, she crouched over him and shook him.
"Shane? are you okay?"
Shane did not respond, and Nyx panicked. She placed her ears on his chest and listened to his heartbeat, but she could barely hear it.
"Shane, wake up." She slapped him lightly across the face. Although she attacked him, it was something she thought he was strong enough to handle. Did she take it too far?
Suddenly Shane's eyes opened; his pupils pitch-black.
In a swift motion, he flipped her over, and she was on the ground beneath him.
Before Nyx could push him away, Shane's wrist went around her neck.
34,523
34,520
34,495…
His hold was firm around her neck, as her mana flowed into him.
"Shane…" she called, but he did not look like him. His eyes were hollow like death, but he was gritting his teeth like he was trying to control himself.
"Control it… you can do it," Nyx spoke. She could stop him, but she wanted to see if he could control it.
Shane groaned as he pulled his hand from her neck, and held it put to the ground. His pupils were still black and there was black aura around him.
Suddenly, he shut his eyes and took a deep breath. Taking a few more breaths, he calmed himself and slumped on Nyx's body.
…
Shane woke up the next day in his dorm.
"You're awake." Sky said when he saw Shane open his eyes.
"Nyx asked me to go pick you up from the field yesterday. What happened?"
Memories from the previous night came back to Shane, and he sighed, an arm going over his face;
"Did you drain her mana?" Finn asked;
"I think I did. What did she say?" He asked, turning to them with a worried expression;
"She said nothing. She just asked us to go pick you up, and remind you of the training today."
"She still wants to train me?" Shane asked, his eyes concerned.
He remembered seeing her mana flow to him. Why did she still want to train him?
Shane looked at his hand and his mana has increased;
405…
He was sure he took from her, so why did she still want to train him?
That evening, Shane was at the field early. Nyx came a few minutes past 8.
"I failed you yesterday," Shane spoke and Nyx chuckled;
"You controlled yourself and that's a tremendous improvement. I'm sure you'll do better today. I won't take it easy on you though, so you have to show me all you've got."
