Seated in front of her father, with a glass of water in front of her, and Adrian beside her, Joyce wondered what she had ever done to be in a situation like this.
She gulped, her eyes flickering over to her mother standing in the corner, playing with the cross necklace around her neck. She could practically feel her mother. Praying in her mind, furiously thanking God for the fact that Joyce was alive and praying for whatever was supposed to happen ahead.
Joyce turned her eyes back towards her father.
"What happened?"
To her surprise or not, the question was not directed at her, so Joyce did not make an effort to answer it. Adrian answered in the exact words, or more of a summary, of what she had told him, and what he found to be true, which was everything. He obviously left out the details of the hot chocolate.
