Joyce squinted her eyes at him. "What did you just say to me?"
Maybe, she did not hear him clearly. It could be anything. Any word that ended with a 'y' at the end, or just sounded similar in nature.

"Joyce," Adrian softened his expression. "You heard me right the first time. I want you to marry me tonight."

He did not attempt to pull her closer, so she remained awkwardly where she had been sitting.

There at work, she was hearing it again. He wanted her to marry him tonight? Tonight, as in today?
