They both sat next to this mystery person in silence, wondering what it was that they were up to exactly. The person didn't seem to have noticed their presence as they kept doing what they were doing.
Josh and Tom were both solely focused on the numerous different sheets in front of the individual, they didn't seem to be about any specific topic and didn't have any link between them either.
One sheet seemed to be a handout from one of their classes, another happened to be what looked like an assignment on the psychological differences from people in different countries, another was a study from a random class they had last year, and another was just a bunch of scribbled notes. It wasn't anything that stood out or caught their interest either.
The silence was broken by Tom clearing his throat. "What do you think of our classmate, Josh? I think she seems interesting…?" he said, his eyebrows slightly furrowed with a smile plastered on his face.
The girl didn't react to his voice, as if no one had said anything at all, instead continuing on with her task, whatever that might be.
"I mean I guess…? I mean she's like totally ignoring us right now. Which is sort of interesting but also kind of annoying, you get me?" Josh spoke, trying his best to keep his voice level.
Tom nodded his head in agreement, before looking at their classmate once again, this time he tried to get her attention by waving his hand in front of her face but she yet again didn't take any notice at all. It was as if he was a ghost.
Tom cleared his throat once again, and tried saying 'hi' but she didn't respond at all. She simply continued to work with her hands folded in front of her. It was as if nothing was there.
He sighed quietly, and rested his head on the table as he looked up at her, he noticed that she had long eyelashes covering chestnut brown eyes, with long black hair tied in a ponytail through the gap in her New York yankees baseball cap. Now that he was looking her over he also noticed she was wearing a baseball jacket over a pure black short sleeeved t-shirt, with black ripped skinny jeans and converge high tops.
"Maybe she's the ghost…" Muttered Tom under his breath, a confused look appeared on his face.
"Maybe." Replied Josh, a small smirk on his face.
The two boys continued to sit in complete silence as they waited for their classmate to finish her work. After away felt like hours of waiting, but in reality was only a few minutes, they both began getting impatient. Tom started swinging on his chair and Josh fidgeted in his seat, it was clear they weren't going to be able to wait any longer.
Josh, evidently tired of waiting, decided to try and get her attention through different methods. First he called out to her, he then waved his hand before her face. His next attempt was to bribe her with food, but to no avail. In the end he gave up and decided to wait for her to finish whatever it was she was doing so that she'd pay attention to them.
"You know, I wouldn't be totally surprised if you told me she was dead." Said Tom finally as he broke the long and deafening silence.
"Honestly same." Replied Josh as he let out a light chuckle, he then placed his hand on her shoulder gently as he continued speaking, "Do you think she's almost done? Feels like we've been here an eternity…"
However, as the girl felt a light pressure on her shoulder she snapped out of her high concentration like trance and finally took notice of the world around herself.
Shs jumped slightly in surprise before she finally placed her pen on top of her worksheets, before turning in her seat and looking around herself.
"Sorry! Was I ignoring you? Sorry for not realizing you were there. Did I interrupt something important? Or rather did I miss anything" she asked, her voice sounded somewhat timid as well as embarrassed.
"Nah… It wasn't that important, we were just waiting for you to finish your work. We were wondering what you were doing that made you concentrate so hard but we don't really want to bug you though…" Josh replied with a warm smile on his face.
The girl has a sort of confused expression on her face but nonetheless she only nodded vigorously and didn't question whatever it was she didn't understand.
Her face then turned into one of shock after she hit a realization and thoight of something, "Oh my gosh! I completely forgot to say hi to you! I'm —— by the way. It's nice to meet you!" She said as a smile blossomed on her pretty face as her eyes turned into the shapes of crescent moons.
As soon as she finished talking she quickly pulled her hat down further to cover her face so no one would see her.
Josh chuckled lightly, "Nice to meet you too, by the way! My name is Joshua!" He said, and the girl peeked behind her hat just enough so that Josh could tell.
Tom then also introduced himself, "And I'm Tom, it's truly a pleasure to meet you."
The girl only nodded enthusiastically after hearing both of their introductions. "Well, I haven't seen you before, and you being here probably means that you also took this course too." She said after a moments pause, "I'll have to ask that you take good care of me as a fellow classmate!" She added with a cute smile on her lips.
"I'll surely think about it." Replied Josh without much thought, he didn't care much for this conversation as he was beginning to get bored of it already.
"Only if you make sure to take care of us too~!" Was what the look in Tom's eyes said but he held it in and chose to remain silent.
Josh looked at him and sighed helplessly, he couldn't quite understand how Tom became a different person around anyone whom he didn't know very well. It was as if his shyness or anxiety was a dial and it was turned down when he was alone with Josh or his family. However, on the contrary, with other people it was cracked right up to full force.
