Chapter 76 - Chapter 76 - The Bullet Worked On You!

The Midnight Onix shot a fireball at Echo.

She fell on the ground, wincing in pain. The burning sensation increased. She felt like she was about to throw up. Holding her stomach, she crawled back until she couldn't anymore.

The Onix stepped forward, bending down to talk to her, "I thought more of you." He gently caressed her cheek. "So soft! So pretty" he remarked. He leaned his face closer to Echo.

Turning her face away from the demon, Echo felt his warm breath brush her nose. Her hand reached to the hidden dagger she had inside her sleeves. Her heart was pounding in her chest, this feeling was not similar to when Damon got close to her. This was a feeling of adrenaline, just like before every fight she had. She felt a surge of energy go through her body. For a moment her pain vanished. She turned her head to face The Onix.

This was her shot to escape, if she stabbed him in his heart she might just have enough time to leave. Without thinking about her plan, her anger took over. If The Onix found out about Damon, he'll kill him. The thought fed her anger.

Gripping the dagger in her hand, she tilted her head. "Haven't anyone thought that soft, pretty things bite too?" Without a single sign of hesitation in her eyes, she stretched her hand to the demon's chest.

The dagger drew closer and closer to the demon's chest. The demon had his eyes fixated on Echo's. Every little change in her eyes fascinated him. Her dull eyes glistened for a split second before she stabbed him. He felt the cold tip of the dagger press into his chest. It dug deeper, until the handle was the only thing sticking out.

The Onix was not disorientated at the least. He was in awe and fascinated by the quick thinking of the Protector. He sensed the anger radiating from her, and this drew him more towards her. Why would a Protector have so much anger in her? He gave a derisive laugh, "My dear! You simply lack the knowledge of my power. What a pity! Once again you prove me wrong, by being so naive, and ignorant." He reached his hand to her neck.

Cold hands wrapped around Echo's neck. She twisted the dagger in his chest, but it did not change anything. The demon had a good grip on her neck, and lifted her from the ground, pinning her to the wall.

"You fascinate me! Maybe I'll let you live." The Onix held her hand on the dagger. He felt the warm hands of the Protector, it was so similar to the humans. He had never bothered to touch a Protector before, since he thought of them as a disease that needed to be rid of.

Protectors were vile creatures who wanted a everything to be controlled. They had no mind of their own, carrying out the orders of the witches. He was the only being who really knew the witches. They might have fooled the Protectors, but he was going to stop them. The world was better with chaos, demons roaming around freely. At least then everyone knew what was coming for them.

With all her might, Echo tried to pull her hand away from the demon's but he held her hand so tight. Why was this demon's hands so cold? Was he even a demon to begin with?

A demon materialised behind the Onix. "We have captured them. Damon is weak now, but he'll be powerful again. Do you want us to take him out?"

The Onix kept his eyes on Echo. He slowly pulled the dagger out, dropping it on the ground. He had no wounds on his body. A dark smoke replaced the dagger, healing him instantly.

Echo's eyes widened, 'How is he healing himself? All the books I've read about demons stated that Damon's can only bleed and be killed too. So is he really a demon?' She asked herself.

"No! Take him and the human girl back with us. I'll deal with this one," the Onix replied.

Echo gulped at his words. What did he mean when he said that he'll deal with her?

The demon vanished into a dark smoke, once he got his orders.

The Onix loosened the grip around Echo's neck. "Is it true? Are you the witch's chosen warrior?"

How many times did she have to answer that question until he finally believed her? "Yes!"

"Then is it true that you won't die?"

Echo sighed. So many questions from this demon. Was he truly planning to kill her? "Yes!"

Satisfied with the answer he got, the Onix turned into a dark smoke, taking Echo with him.

Everything around them was dark, until suddenly, they were in a different place.

It was a room made out of stone, and lit by a single light. Echo heard the sound of a cage, but could not see much since her eyes were still getting used to the dark. She was thrown into a cage, and the door was shut tight. She stared at the Onix who stood outside.

"The bullet worked on you! Maybe I should believe you from now on, chosen warrior!" The Onix vanished in a dark smoke, leaving Echo behind.

Entering Damon's room, the butler kept Damon on the bed. Rose stood next to them, not knowing what to do.

"Is he going to be alright? He'll be alright, right?" she asked the butler, as her eyebrows creased. Pacing the room, she fidgeted with her fingers. Her thoughts raised, as she felt a lump in her throat, 'Damon! Please come back! Please come back! I can't do anything without you. Please wake up! What if he never wakes up? No Rose! You can't think like that. He'll never leave you behind.... he'll never leave you behind.' Her ragged breathing calmed as she closed her eyes, and exhaled from her mouth.

Glaring at Rose, the butler turned her gaze away once she looked back at her.
