Chapter 35 - Chapter 35 - He’s Not My Boyfriend

Jasmine gave Echo a glare, similar to a mother's glare at her child, "I thought I asked you to rest."

"The bed here is not that comfy like the one at home," Echo complained. She had got back into her dress, and looked remarkable.

Damon felt so much at ease after seeing Echo, he stepped closer to her, and hugged her, leaving her confused. She knew he was worried about her, but the hug caught her off guard.

The commander casually moved towards the two and put the handcuff back on Echo's hand.

Echo glared at the commander who simply smiled back saying, "Since you are okay now, you should be able to keep an eye on your boyfriend."

"He's not my boyfriend," Echo blurted, glaring at the commander while raising her cuffed hand, "And is this really necessary?"

"I told you earlier, and I'll repeat it once more… yes!" the commander replied. He walked back to his wife, and continued, "Now off you go, both of you."

"And Hunter?"

Jasmine turned towards the bed where Hunter was, "She should be fine. I'll bring her out, just make sure to give her a good dinner." She went in, and brought Hunter out, who was sound asleep.

Echo picked the cub up in her own hands, and thanked Jasmine and the commander before leaving.

She smiled at Damon as they closed the door to the Healers room. It was awkward between them now. He could have just stayed, and they would have been fine, but his choice to break Kaia out and leave made Echo sad. In fact it broke her heart. She couldn't understand why he'd need Kaia. He could have left on his own, ryt?

The two of them entered the empty lift. Damon glanced at Echo, as she aimlessly started at the door.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

Echo nodded, "Yeah. Thanks for asking." She did not have the energy to have a full conversation with him. So she kept staring at the door, hoping it would open any time soon. She didn't even mind if someone stepped into the lift, all she wanted was to not be alone with him.

"I saw that you hadn't touched your lunch," he looked at her with concern. Was she sad after their fight in the house? Was that why she hadn't eaten? His eyes were fixated on her, waiting for her response.

Echo simply took his words as a statement, thus not replying.

The door to the lift opened on their floor, and Echo rushed out. Damon followed her close behind, with his hand brushing hers.

Echo opened the door to the house, stepping in, and closing the door behind Damon. She kept Hunter on the bed, and turned to Damon, who was silently following her around.

"Damon, I need to change!"

Damon lifted his handcuffed hand. Echo sighed, and sat on the bed dejectedly.

"Are you okay?" He crouched, to get a better view of her face.

Echo glared at him. She was ready to voice her frustration, "Am I fine? Is that even a question you should be asking me right now? What makes you think I'm fine, you idiot? How stupid are you?"

"I'm sorry, I thought you'd be safe away from me," he explained.

"Safe?! Away from you?!" She stood up, and turned away from him, continuing "What were you thinking? You could have spoken to me. I was even planning to ask you to be my boyfriend, but instead you say you can't control your powers after our fight, and then try to escape. Not even by yourself… you had to take Kaia with you!"

He sighed when she began raising her voice. She was frustrated, and angry, he needed to do something to calm her down. He held Echo's hand, and pulled her towards him, kissing her on the lips.

Echo pulled back and slapped him. "You are an idiot!" She threw his hand from hers, and glared at him.

"I'm… sorry. I-I j-just wanted to help you calm down!" Damon replied.

"You want me to calm down! W-what's wrong with you? I'm not allowed to be angry with you now? You are a jerk!" she turned away from him again.

Damon sighed. "I give up. You're really annoying at times," he slumped on the bed.

Echo turned to him, her eyes raging with anger. 'He thinks he can call me annoying, after everything he did.'

"What's your problem? Seriously! You do everything wrong, and I'm the one who's annoying? What kind of… whatever you are, are you? Do you really think I like running behind you, just to stop you from escaping?" Echo exploded in anger.

"I didn't mean it like that," he argued back.

"Oh then what did you mean? That I'm always annoying? Is that what you meant?" She asked, pausing for a response from him. Once it was clear he was not going to answer, she continued "Why don't you just go be with Kaia in one of those stupid cages?"

She pushed him back on the bed in anger. He fell back, grabbing her hand with him. She ended up falling on top of him.

Echo glared at Damon, while their faces were so close to each other. For a full minute she forgot about her anger towards him. She propped herself up with her hand, while staring directly at his eyes. Her breath was ragged, as she felt like she was drowning in his eyes. Licking her lips, she took in a deep breath.

Damon felt some of Echo's weight on his chest, despite her holding some of it. It did not bother him even in the slightest, all he cared about was the look she was giving him. How was she so adorable even though she was angry? Why was he falling for her so hard? She was supposed to be dead, but here they were, in another realm… together.

"I'm sorry!" Damon reached his hand towards her cheek. He hesitated for a while, but then caressed her cheek gently, while she was still frozen in place, "I promise I'll never leave you like that again. Okay?"
