Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 - How Good Is Sebastian?

Echo stepped back, while defending herself from a series of blows. Sebastian finally drew blood, when Echo moved aside swiftly, getting a small cut on her wrist.

Damon felt his heart stop, it was too intense even for a demon like himself. He wouldn't have minded if it was anyone else fighting, but seeing his love getting hurt was just too much for him. He stepped closer to the commander, to whisper.

"How good is Sebastian?"

The commander raised his eyebrow at the curious demon, "He's been learning to fight since he was a child, and now he's a hundred and five years old."

Damon's eyes widened, he began berating himself for not even trying to stop Echo. He was worried about her. Was one year of training going to be the same as a warrior who had been training since childhood? Of course not. He thought of her to be similar to him, neither of them knew what they were doing. They were just thrown into this new world of crazy.

Damon huffed, trying to calm down.

"You seem more tense than your girlfriend," the commander noted. He took a quick glance at Damon, just to make sure he wasn't going to do anything dangerous in the name of love.

Jasmine was standing behind the two, and overheard their conversation. She did not miss the chance to tease her husband, "Hmm of course, it's not like the person who's saying that does things to make his wife get a heart attack."

The commander turned to his wife, and gave her an expressionless look. She smiled sweetly, continuing, "Damon, I can assure you, having a relationship with a warrior makes you realise how stupid you are."

The commander held his chuckle, "Are you going to keep berating me, or watch the fight?"

"Berating you? Oh my dear husband… I would never do that," Jasmine replied in a soft voice, with a proud smile. She wrapped her hand around her husband's shoulder, causing him to smirk.

Damon smiled at the lighthearted conversation the two were having. It helped him ease his nerves, but just a little, he was still very worried about Echo.

Jane rushed back to the field after dropping the previous fighter at the Healer's room. She stopped abruptly next to Jasmine, panting, she asked, "What's happening? Did he challenge her to a fight? Did he get injured? Oh my goodness! How could I miss something so important?"

Jasmine put her arm around her sister's shoulder, and smiled at her husband.

Echo continued fighting, with no regard to the cut near her wrist. She was very aggressive, compared to her defensive fighting style earlier. Sebastian was moving as fast as he could, defending himself.

Sebastian smirked, when he blocked Echo's blade once again, "Don't push yourself too much, you'll get tired, or make a mistake." He glanced at her cut that was now painting the light green grass a light red. He pushed Echo's blade back.

Echo stepped back, confusing Sebastian who expected her to attack. She gripped her sword in both her hands. 'What's his weakness? I need to find his weakness,' she kept reminding herself of the witches' training. It was difficult for her to find a weakness in his fighting style. Usually he'd be rash, and made many mistakes, but this time he was restrained, and strategic. She was almost surprised seeing how well he fought.

"You okay?" Sebastian asked, tilting his head to the side.

Echo nodded, while waiting for him to make a mistake. She dodged his attack, moving to her side, but her sword grazed his. Sebastian turned around swiftly just in time to block her attack, and the two moved around once again.

Damon sighed, staring at every move Echo made, hoping that Sebastian won't hurt her again. He was dying inside, wanting to just jump into the fight, and defend her, but he kept telling himself that she could handle herself.

Sebastian stepped back, and charged towards Echo, with a fireball in his hand. Echo finally noticed an opening to use against him. She slide on the ground, her sword had a scarlet streak of blood dripping to the ground. She turned back to check on Sebastian, who fell on his knee clutching his stomach.

"Sebastian!" Jane shouted, rushing to his aid. She checked the deep cut on his stomach, and then glanced at Echo. Jasmine followed her sister, and helped Sebastian up, taking him away.

The rest of the warriors were dumbfounded. They did not cheer, but stared at the captain of the Elites being taken away. The Elite warriors helped Jane and Jasmine, vanishing into the Manor.

Echo sighed, staring at her sword, as blood kept dripping down from it. Damon hugged her, and stroked her head.

"You made me so worried about you," he checked her hand, making sure it wasn't a deep wound.

The commander stepped forward, and reassured Echo, "Don't worry too much about him. Jane and Jas will take great care of him and he'll be fine in no time."

Echo nodded, and glanced at the other warriors who were still very silent. She held Damon's hand and made her way back into the manor. The other warriors made her anxious, they stared at her as if she had made some grave mistake, and she had to be killed. Her heart dropped when she thought about Jane, she must have been so worried about the fight, and Echo just made things worse. She wanted to go back to the fight and change everything. It would have been better if she was the one who got injured, and not Sebastian.

"Are you okay?" Damon asked, he cupped Echo's cheeks, and lowered his gaze to her face. He was visibly anxious, as he hoped she wasn't feeling bad for herself. He brought his hands down to her shoulders, and pulled her in for a hug, whispering in her ear, "It's okay. He'll be fine. Don't hurt yourself for this, okay?"
