Chapter 17 - 17. The School Showdown

Trevor was standing in a line of kids in the entrance area of his school, bathing in the artificial light coming from lamps fixed to the ceiling and waiting for an evaluation. Liv was in front of him, with another girl before her, already with a hand on the device. The usual school noise was present, which usually wasn't something that bothered them too much, but this time, combined with the fact of his duel happening later that day it was quite annoying. Both he and Liv didn't really talk.

The girl checked her number, and walked away, making space for his friend. She immediately placed her hand on the sphere and shortly after turned around. She just shook her head and left.

Trevor didn't really know what to tell her. Fortunately for him, she didn't give him enough space to even try.

He took his turn, and verified that the number he got was the same as the one in his overview, then followed Liv, but she didn't stop to wait for him, instead headed straight to her first class. Trevor caught upon that quickly and changed the direction, knowing there is no reason to try and talk with her when she is in such a state of mind. There was a wall being built between them, but at that moment he didn't really care much, since his mind was too occupied by the fight.

She was just another obstacle to achieving better school life. An unexpected one, but still. Considering how much he prepared for this fight, there was no going back. It had to happen. He even got to school by himself this morning and asked his mother to not pick him up after. Things just had to change.

„I can't pay attention to her now when I'm so close to dealing with Billy and Joe", he thought to himself, as he continued the walk to his classroom.

„She will get over it when I'm victorious", he added after a few steps.

This thought reassured him a bit, and his step became more lively. A smile also crawled on his face too.

The next few hours passed very slowly, probably because he kept checking the time every minute, and couldn't wait to be over with the whole drama. Each break he noticed, that more and more kids were looking at him, and whispering. The rumor spread around like a virus, and soon everybody was paying unwanted attention to him. Something that never happened before, and Trevor found himself in a situation, where he just wanted to run away. Fortunately, the last lesson came to an end, and he could get out of the school building.

It made him happy, but that happiness didn't last long, as almost every kid followed him quite soon. They all were heading to the track field behind the school, where both Billy and Joe, were already waiting, surrounded by the almost empty stands in the middle of the grass, placed in the center of the whole object.

They were standing tall, with hands in their pockets, and smirks on their ugly mugs. It pissed Trevor off, even before he engaged with them.

- Look Joe, he came.

- Yeah. I told you he will. You owe me a drink.

- My loos. My loos.

They exchanged few words in a nonchalant manner, smiling all the time.

- Even crowd is here - added Billy. - We are gonna get popular.

- Popular? For beating up that nobody. Please, Billy…

- Shut up – Trevor growled at them, as he got just a few steps from the duo.

Behind him, the kids split into two groups, as they started to surround the three of them. They quickly formed a natural and very noisy arena. Most were chattering, but from time to time somebody yelled something, but Trevor couldn't pay less attention, as his focus on Billy and Joe only grew.

He stopped seeing anything, but them.

- Stop talking, and let's just be over with this – he squeezed through his teeth and dropped his backpack.

The smirks on their faces vanished, and Joe lightly hit Billy with his elbow. They nodded to each other and started moving to the sides, to flank Trevor.

He immediately used flare twice, to have fire in both of his hands, and without thinking much, threw the first ball at Joe, to then immediately turn around, and charge at Billy. He closed the distance and swung his fist, but the taller kid avoided it with ease.

He didn't attack, though, and stepped back while focusing on Trevor's burning hand.

- You piece of shit! - reached him from behind, and he heard the loud footsteps of somebody running from behind, so he turned around just to see Joe closing the distance.

It was an opportunity he just couldn't waste, and he threw the 'Flare' at him. Bully blocked it with his forearms, but the flames, except barely doing any damage, actually caught to his clothes. He panicked at the first second, but then began taking his shirt off.

At the same moment, Billy grabbed Trevor from behind and twisted his body to throw him. The boy hit the ground, to immediately get pinned down to the grass by Billy, who swung his fist. It didn't reach the target, as Trevor used 'Flare' once again, and just hit him with an open palm in the chest. His clothes immediately caught on fire, and he jumped back, to quickly take the burning piece off.

Trevor got up and noticed that Joe had also taken his shirt off. It was now laying on the ground, burning up.

Their confident expressions were gone. Now they had a mix of fear and anger painted all over their faces. It made Trevor smile, as it was an indication of triumph on his side.

- I have more for you – he said with confidence and a smile.

- Hey! What is going on here?! - reached everybody from the side of the school building.

Some kids turned around, but most couldn't see any way through the bodies blocking the view, but the voice was very familiar. It belonged to the principal.

- Those who still have lessons, go back to school! Those who finished, go to your homes! - he shouted again.

It worked, as kids started to immediately disperse, and soon Trevor could see through the crowd the principal, surrounded by a few other teachers. The group was walking toward him, and the bullies. They hesitated, when they could see Billy and Joe, but ended up getting closer, to a talking distance.

- The three of you. Go home – said the principal. - And I don't want to see something like that ever again.

He was a balding man with hair only on the sides of his egg-shaped head. Overweight, always wearing the same blue suit with a white shirt and black tie.

There was a pulsing vein on his chin, just below the ear, showing how furious he was.

Trevor looked at the two other boys, their facial expressions showed a lot of anger, but despite that, they just walked away towards the chook building, so he was the only one remaining.

- Go home, West – the principal repeated himself.

He didn't respond, just went and grabbed his backpack off the ground, to then leave, heading home, but the anger over the unresolved issue remained.
