Chapter 39 - Surprise Attack

"Bang!"

The door unexpectedly shook and the man was tossed forwards, flailing helplessly as he rolled down the stairs once more.

"BAM!"

At some degree, Ryver clutched his head, finally stabilizing the man's body from striking the concrete stairs.

"T-thank you." The man sputtered as he wheezed heavily, his voice sounding unnatural due to the mask shrouding his face.

But then, he caught sight of something and couldn't help but touch his exterior. Ryver's fingers had pricked through his gas mask and sliced slightly at his cheek, drawing blood. The man immediately frowned, suspecting Ryver could have held him without puncturing his gas mask and injuring him in the process. Now his gas mask is completely useless and with the radiation coagulating up here with the death of vountkrss Ordinary Mutated Gaint Pigeons, his body might start to mutate within a short few hours if he didn't act quick.

The man abruptly fixed his eyes on Ryver's face, impeded by the gas mask. Since Ryver's Physique was obviously stronger than his', his resistance to radiation would be elevated than his. Therefore, his body might not even be influenced after a few days of breathing in radiation.

As the man was thinking of this, Ryver instantly let out a cold snort as though he could speculate what the man was thinking.

"BANG!"

Fragments of bones laced with chunks of blood catapulted towards Ryver's shoulder, chest and face, but unable to pierce through his hardened body cause of his physique, they bounced back.

Ryver's expression scrunched up in slight disgust, he shook his right hand willfully. Rosy thick blood and a whitish slimy substance trickled from his fingertips, all the way to his forearm, and a sticky type of tissue that seem like greyish noodles stuck to his arm, hanging towards the ground, creating an awful smell, penetrating Ryver's nose.

The mouth of the survivor hung open in shock, but apart from his nose and his mouth, the rest of his head had been crushed to bloody meat paste. The body dropped to the stairs with a bouncing thud sound. Ryver wasn't phased by the destb of the man, the man had it coming from the beginning, he just chose to act now.

"BAM!"

The door to the stairway caved in, attracting Ryver's attention. The metallic door was designated to resist a tremendous percentage of pressure but the force the mutated human contained was obviously powerful than what the Architect had in mind.

Witnessing this, Ryver glared slightly. Metallic doors a few inches thick would be incapable of holding the Mutant. The conditions for his evolution ran through his mind and as he recollected the skinny body of the Mutated Human, Ryver couldn't help but exhale in disappointment.

Nuclei of 1st Degree infected (0/3)]

[Spinal Fluid of Mutated Human (0/350ml)]

[Bone Marrow of Type 1 mutated beast(0/5kg)]

[Heart of a 2nd Degree infected or a Rank 2 Mutated beast or a Type 2 Mutant or a Level 2 Enhanced Human(0/1) ]

The average human body contained 100ml to 150ml of spinal fluids and if the body of a Mutant was similarical to that of a normal human, it was highly plausible the quantity of spinal fluid contained within the bodies would be the same. Which indicated he required at least three to four bodies of a Mutant to extract the spinal fluids from.

"BAM!"

The door trembled violently, and its hinges rumbled, fragments of bricks falling off its edges. The metallic door caved in even further with cracks materializing on the huddled in surface.

Even in the dead of the night and a few hundred meters above ground, the climate within the floors was still searing hot, cascading the atmosphere with slight fog.

The air within the stairs roared as the door shook once more, the entire surface of the door covered in cracks, a few holes already on the surface of the door. Sure the Mutant didn't excel in strength but in speed, even so, its power wasn't something to sneer about.

"BOOM!"

The Mutant burst through the door with great force the doors smashed into pieces, metal shrapnels flung outwards in all directions, jabbing towards the walls and the staircase. Some creating large holes in the wall while others rebounding against the walls as well as the metal steel staircase.

The entire location was pitch black! Enhanced with the fog in the surroundings, the illumination from the passageways could barely reach the stairways, darkness blanketing the surroundings making everything scarcely visible.

Even then, the Mutant seem to be able to faintly see through the darkness as its tubular eyes scanned through the environment like, searching for something or someone.

The Mutant eventually caught the dead body of the other man lying helplessly on the treads with half his face pulverised but Ryver was nowhere to be found whereas, he had escaped!

A loud shriek surged and the creature looked down the triangular-Shaped interior of the stairs, checking at the other for Ryver.

It was at that juncture Ryver unhurriedly slid the corpse of the man away from the top of his body, gently placing it to the side as he clenched his blade tightly, a wild grin twisted his face, making him look very much insane. Ryver wasn't one to escape from a fight!

His blade jerked in midair as they sliced the fog apart with their sharp edges, steering towards the skull of the Mutant who was still gazing downwards below.

The beast seem to have sensed something in the last minute and its neck twisted inhumanly backwards, gazing directly at Ryver.

It hadn't expected Ryver to suddenly appear behind it therefore it was unprepared for the sudden ambush. But even then, its reaction speed defied the laws of physics as its wings shifted, protecting its head and its chest. The two vital points Ryver's blades were aiming towards.

"Clang!" "Puchi!"

The first blade stabbed at the wings of the Mutant, unable to pierce forward, getting stuck on the thick bone but it was as though Ryver had anticipated this.
