Chapter 29 - Chapter 4 part 7 The price of power

The battle had ended and a I had been returned to normal or as close as could be called normal my body was in perfect condition however my head hurt so badly it felt like my brain was continuously exploding.

A sandstorm had suddenly started and I lay flat on my back unable to move a muscle or say a word.

The sandstorm had lasted for 2 days and finally when it died down I waited to be found, 7 days had passed and the Egyptians had found me and carried me to their camp.

I was a complete vegetable unable to do a thing I could see but the images burnt like fire I could hear what people said however it felt muffled and took me hours to comprehend what was being said.

Rameses and Russell had tended to me in this state and for a short part the easiest telling of my tale would be from Rameses point of view.

Our army had been ridding hard towards the battlefield ahead hoping to play our part in the war.

Round about now we expected Horas to have started combat and hopefully he could achieve enough for us to assist him.

Suddenly we saw a bright blast in day light and then following it in the minutes to come we saw a huge blast that turned the sky black before it rapidly shrunk back down we had stopped our progression in that instant.

Seconds later we saw a distant flash of light followed by an explosion of sand and dust.

The explosion had set of an earthquake that threw us all to the ground and as it died a massive cloud of sand descended passing over us.

The sand had settled in the next few hours and we all rode out to the battlefield hoping this was a sign of victory for Horas.

We had finally reached the battlefield to find a desert had been created out here and as we searched the field nothing could be found to say the battle had even happened the glass that should have been around was pulverized and after a few hours we found Horas, he was in a weird condition as he couldn't move or speak, all we noticed was his eye movement was extremely fast.

Russell had helped me take care of Horas however we were stumped.

The condition seemed familiar to a passing of history yet the major problem was the condition was only ever experienced by 2 of the great 5.

To make things worse the condition had to run its course over several years before the immortal could once more be left to his own devices.

The options we had were limited taking Horas back with us to Egypt may trigger China to send an army to retrieve their saviour, if we took Horas back we could do nothing for him or worse still we could hurt his feelings.

Horas had intended to return to China after the war and live out his first few years of married life exploring the region unfortunately Hathor's body was vaporized.

Egypt had no city and would require us to rebuild, most of Europe had been decimated by the war so no armies would run out trying to conquer the rest of the world the only option we had was to take Horas to China and have them care for him over the next 10 years.

The army of nobles and commoners strongly opposed the plan myself and Russell had laid out and we had arguments all through the night about what to do with Horas finally several soldiers agreed that Horas deserved the greatest luxury and that they would return home rebuild and send tribute for their lord till he returned.

The nobles felt ashamed at the very thought of releasing the last immortal in his current condition.

Russell and I had decided to personally take Horas to China after all only I knew his name in China was Kanji.

The trip to China had been difficult the normal trade routes had all been abandoned the villages were empty with small strips of fields left unattended.

Fortunately Horas did not need to eat making caring for him ever so easy.

We had felt terrible for treating him like a corpse but a man who did not eat or excrete was much easier to care for.

Russell and I had set down 1 night and decided to discuss what could be done to help Horas.

Russell spoke in a soft voice saying "My mother Gaia went through this as her punishment for destroying Titan after it had been rebuilt, I remember her saying she and Zeus were cast into the Eden super massive black hole and when they revived they had gone weird in the head time seemed to pass slow all around them and their brains kept exploding.

It took her 80 years to stop feeling the pain.

She could move by the end of the third year and had been speaking from the first year the problem here is Horas has not been swallowed by a black hole and returned if we had a regeneration pod we likely could speed up his recovery to a year at best."

I had thought of my mother for the first time in years, her story was not pleasant she was a beautiful seductive monster and hated my sister for being more beautiful then her, she had also treated many other immortals poorly to the point that she tortured them.

My father had told me that my mother wasn't purely a monster and it was merely her way of coping with a great trauma she suffered, the trauma was the horror of the black hole its gravity stretched you so thin your mind snapped then it pinned you so tight you became a point and in the next second that was your eternity before you randomly appeared amongst mankind again.

You were tortured with an eternity of nothing and your past experiences were all you had till you came too and you would never know if it were reality or your imagination.

The journey to China had taken 2 months and finally it was time to hand Horas over, Russell and I had decided to follow the exact same story when handing Horas over that was, Kanji appeared in our city and saved us from being conquered by the Spartan army unfortunately the aftermath of the battle he had with the Spartan army left him almost completely incapacitated so he told us to bring him to you and that he would recover in 4 years time.

We had arrived in China to find that the city here was vastly superior to Egypt, water flowed down ducts that brought it to each person's home and business, on top of that the city had extraordinary agriculture that benefited from the water filtration system.

The town seemed to be set in circle formation with the most important circle at its heart, walls were being constructed to separate each layer of the city and in doing so they bolstered their defensive capabilities.

We had spoken to several guards and had been instructed to take Horas to a blacksmiths house once we arrived the woman in the house called out Kanji and spoke to the guards in a foreign tongue.

The guards had taken us to the second level where several individuals questioned us for hours before taking Horas in to their care.

At this point myself and Russell bought up supplies and left.
