Chapter 9 - Chapter 1 part 9 The new Pharaoh to be

I had never felt this angry at anyone ever before this feeling was unnatural and didn't hold well with me, I knew jealousy was bad but this willingness to protect another was capable of creating the worst out of me.

Hathor clung onto my arm holding it tightly hiding behind me as the group turned towards us.

The leader of the group was fat and occupied the space of 3 men his face was covered in sweat and his jewellery had been stained with rust he cleared his throat and replied in a foul bitter tone "so be it we shall not touch the woman of your royal court."

I instantly replied "all women and men within this city are under my protection as I am the champion of the royal court."

The leader of the group looked at me in the most foul manner and replied "so be it noble pig!"

The guards around the area drew weapons and the Pharaoh appeared almost instantly out of a nearby stall with his blade fully drawn.

I instantly gripped my blade a shouted "stand down!"

The Pharaoh looked at me with an amazed smile and all the guards and the Pharaoh himself took a deep bow to me the delegation had started to walk away paying no attention to seen unfolding before them.

The Pharaoh put his hand on my shoulder and announced "the courts champion shall be crowned Pharaoh on his wedding by my power being his loyal friend and servant. All hail Pharaoh Allumic!"

As I looked around I noticed Hathor was not hiding behind but trying to pull me out of the way of any harm this had taken me almost completely by surprise she knew I was immortal but her care for me was as if I was as delicate as silk.

The Pharaoh had marched on with his wife before I could even say anything his words had put the entire city into a state of happiness as many common people knew and admired me for my humble demeanour.

As I approached each stall people seemed to be presenting me with gifts and under the law of the city refusing a gift was the same as steeling the honour of another.

I was not the type to accept gifts in fact I had on many occasions told it to the Pharaoh himself but it fell on deaf ears as he would never give me that courtesy.

Hathor seemed thrilled at the respect I had amongst the people never had anyone in this city stood up for its people the way I had.

Hathor had received several gifts as I had been escorting her, 1 of the gifts given to her was a flat bread.

Despite the difficulty off baking flat bread was fairly simple to make and was extremely delicious.

Hathor had done 1 thing that had people staring at us for more then 1 reason, men and women had a social protocol in the city that demanded a demeanour of respect.

Men are not allowed to touch women without their express permission and secondly only married couples may cling to each other.

Hathor was still clung to my arm and I could tell her strong grip was 1 of care and fear.

It had been a long morning and the city seemed almost festive when finally I had a moment to speak to Hathor.

I had placed a hand on hers and spoke "I'm not going anywhere trust me soon we shall be wed and then we will have even more time together."

Hathor looked up at me and replied "I have heard of anger like that before and every time I have heard of that anger people get hurt. My father once told me never to allow anger to lead me to fight like the 1 I was named after he said she hurt those around her for their sin and then hurt the innocent for her pain and in the end she had to be harmed to her madness and I don't want to see you do the same."

It was at this moment with her hand still firmly on my arm that I understood her action she was calming me down, my anger had only been removed from the surface but she could see through me understanding how I felt.

We may not have been a couple for years like the Pharaoh and Sarah but we undoubtedly had a bond worthy of note.

We continued to move through the market slowly approaching the inner city area when suddenly another noble woman approached Hathor.

The 2 spoke silently and all of a sudden Hathor released my arm and started shouting "I'm not smitten and I'm not taken by his demeanour the Pharaoh ordered me to court him for a while before I made any decision that's all!"

Her face was bright red and she had puffed up her cheeks and started stomping off ahead of me I rushed forward to catch up with her and when I finally did she letched herself onto my arm again.

She was extremely silent and in a low voice she said "I didn't mean what I said back there." I didn't feel like responding was a good idea and had simply walked her to her house.

Finally we arrived at her house and she simply ran in without saying a word to me.

I had started walking away when I noticed that several guards were standing behind me they seemed to be waiting to talk to me.

The guards had carried a report on the foreign royals who walked through the market it turns out that after my intervention they marched of to the edge of the city then departed home with haste.

This was both a relief and worry the action I had taken may spur on a war or even encourage a boycott of the market by that tribe and its allies. I had walked on the area where my home was in the city and had decided to go in and have a look as to what my new home looked like.

I had entered the house and my mind had rolled over in thought instantly to Hathor she was a strange individual indeed primarily she was a spoilt little princess but that was just the façade she hide her true self who was a mix of kindness, compassion and being bashful making her undeniably adorable.

I walked through the home noticing the large reception area and then found several rooms that were for living quarters and then I found the kitchen it was large made for accommodation of guests as I had expected for nobles.

I had finished viewing my new house and decided to sit on the balcony and view the sunset.

As I did I contemplated everything the Pharaoh had told me about himself and his siblings, to me the tale had been off since I remembered that he said he hoped to 1 day show all he had achieved to his father.

I contemplated that he was the child of an immortal or possibly his entire family were immortals accept him and his brother.

The way he treated Hathor was still 1 based of guilt something I too already understood when I was forced to conceal my identity and watch hundreds of people die.

He likely wished he saved his sister her pain and rescued her husband or that he didn't have to kill her with his parents.

I set on my balcony watching the sun as the horizon turned red to nothing but a slight light against the darkness of night.
