Chapter 64 - Good Night

Little did she know, their captain noticed her going out because he's on the terrace to find some solitude.

He saw her walking out but he decided not to ask her any questions so he went upstairs and was about to go to his room when he noticed her door open, and he saw a medicine mat on the floor.

"Sleeping pills?" he asked himself when he read the name on the medicine mat

Out of curiosity, he opened her room and was about to close it again when he noticed an empty bottle on her bed.

It was noticeable because Key left her lights on, and so, Nicolas picked it up and his brows furrowed when he realized that those are sleeping pills.

He placed it back down on her bed along the medicine mat and went out of her room before closing it shut. He walked to their room and decided to ask Key about it next time.

Meanwhile, Key is about to hail a cab outside their subdivision when James, Vita, and Monk arrived.

"You're going out?" James asked her after lowering his car's window

"Hmm, you guys went to a night out?" Key replied after nodding

"I'll drive you there," James said and Key opened the backseat door

"You two know each other, huh?" Monk, or Thomas Weller, asked when Key sat next to him in the backseat and Key smiled while nodding

"His mom and my mom are cousins," Key said as James turned the car around

"Huh, really?" Vita, or Richard Shapiro, asked while looking at Key and James

"I spent my childhood with her in Angliae, before I entered e-sports," James said

"So, you influenced her into joining?" Monk asked and Key chuckled

"No, he didn't even teach me anything about playing whenever I ask him." Key said

"Grandfather will hang me upside down if I influence you out of law school, Chantel," James said

"Where are you going at this late though?" Vita asked Key

"I can't sleep," Key said and James nodded in understanding

"You're not double taking, are you?" James kidded and Key shook her head

"No, that'll make me adjust to a higher dosage," Key replied

James drove to the nearest pharmacy, Monk and Vita would ask some questions to Key, which she'll answer while smiling innocently.

They opted to wait for Key in the car and it didn't take long before she came back holding a paper bag from the pharmacy.

"You should buy your own car, I'm sure Papa won't mind that," James said while driving back to their subdivision making Key chuckle

"But my sister will mind you calling our Papa that," Key kidded and James shook his head

"Besides, I don't intend to stay in the country longer than necessary," Key added

"And does 'necessary' still mean two years?" James asked

"Hmm, it depends," Key said with a small smile

"So, you won't stay around that long?" Monk asked and Key shook her head

"You never stay in a place longer than two years, except back when Auntie asked you to," James said

"Mama didn't like the idea of us traveling from a young age so she only gave her permission when Chela turned twelve," Key said

"You traveled a lot then," Vita said and Key nodded

The drive was quick; it only took them ten minutes before they arrived back in their subdivision.

"Ah, right, James," Key said when she was about to go out of the car

"Yeah, you forgot something?" James asked

"Can you remind my sister to check my sleeping pills with the family doctor? Tell her, I need them in a month, thanks,"

"Will do," James replied and Key went out of his car

Key went inside of their base and just as she locked the front door, she received a message from Sfentami, informing her that Lynch logged in to his computer, and right after reading Sfentami's message, she received a message from Lynch challenging her in a solo.

She headed up to her room as quietly as possible and closed the door.

She saw the empty bottle and medicine mat on her bed, so she quickly took out the new box of sleeping pills before putting the empty bottle and medicine mat inside the paper bag and throwing it away in the bin next to her table.

She opened her laptop and logged in before she typed a reply to Lynch, telling him to send the invite.

After receiving the invite, they started with choosing their shinigami, Key chose Chikara while Lynch chose Laidir.

Like the usual solo challenge rules, they can only fight in the middle circle; they can't fight in either player's territory or its void.

They started with developing their shinigami, they both developed in both ends of the middle circle, hence sending damage to each other from time to time while attacking the minions.

After leveling up to level 4, Chikara attacked Laidir with a combination of his first and second attacks skills that drained his blood, then he proceeded to deal damage to the opponent's tower while developing by killing minions.

Key had already leveled up to five and dealt damage on Lynch's tower by the time he resurrected back on the map, Key controlled her shinigami back to the middle circle where they clashed as soon as Lynch's Laidir entered.

They exchanged attacks after attacks but Key's shinigami managed to overpower the opposing shinigami because of her higher level.

In the battle between two fighting types, the one with the higher level gets the advantage because his attacks deal more damage and he has more vitality, and that is exactly what's happening in Key's and Lynch's match.

The gap between their attacks is getting bigger every time Key kills his shinigami because hers develop while his shinigami doesn't, and so the next time he resurrected on the map, he used his ultimate skill and drained Chikara's blood.

The shinigami that Lynch chose has a stronger ultimate skill because of the terrain of the match's map than the shinigami that Key chose.

Lynch is the one who sent the invite so he's the one who chose the kind of terrain the match's map will have, and that is also why he chose Laidir.

After draining Chikara's blood, he headed to Key's tower and began dealing damage to her tower, and he killed some of her minions and developed in the process.

As soon as Key's shinigami resurrected, he waited for her to head to the middle lane before he began dealing damage to her shinigami, he is still level below her but after using his second skill and his ultimate skill for the last time, he drained her blood.

They both have two kills, one more kill and one tower destroyed and the winner will be decided. He attacked Key's tower, dealing damage after damage with his first and second skill, and developing until his shinigami is on the same level as Key's shinigami.

When Chikara resurrected, Key made him deal damage to the minions going on her way without entering the middle circle, and just when Laidir began developing himself by killing her minions as well, she launched an attack using Chikara's first attack skill.

They are now on the same level and so the damage they received and dealt on each other is equal, neither of them is using their ultimate skill because Key is reserving hers while Lynch already used his two chances of using Laidir's ultimate skill.

The clash went on until both of them only have a quarter of blood left, and the one who deals the larger damage will remain.

It might be of luck or just a coincidence, but a single minion from Lynch's side received damage from the attack skill that Key used made Chikara level up, and because of that additional level, Key's shinigami overpowered Lynch's, this time he can no longer retaliate with his ultimate skill and so his blood was drained.

Key controlled her shinigami to head to the opponent's tower and she used up the two chances of using Chikara's ultimate skill to destroy Lynch's tower and claim victory.

Kashmiri: I win.

Two words, it only took two words to irritate Lynch even more after his defeat, he could imagine the smile plastered on Key's lips as she sent that message and it made him clench his fist.

He thought that if he challenged Kashmiri late at night, she won't be able to play well because she'll be drowsy but the fact that she beat him meant that she's a good player, and he doesn't like to acknowledge that.

However, he's wrong about one thing, Key didn't send the message while wearing a smile, she sent it while frowning because he texted her right after she bought her sleeping pills and was ready to go to sleep.

Kashmiri: Have a good night, bye.

And, with that, she logged out and closed her laptop.

What she liked about solo matches is the fact that it's quick, fighting solo meant that no teammates, tactics, basically nothing else other than your gaming skills affect the result of the match so it's quickly resolved with one match.
