Mariana was dazed. Nothing could possibly be that big. Whatever it was, it was moving towards them, coming from the direction of the city.
"Mother of worms, I knew it," Daniel cursed.
Mariana turned towards him. "Knew what?"
"I had to take some of that gold ashore to pay a couple of witches. It was because Roinar died. Otherwise, we would have been good, but his family is very angry at us."
"I…"
Mariana sighed. Sure, she had not acted like an ideal wife herself, but she would have at least expected Daniel to know what he was doing. The gold was cursed, he had said so himself! What had driven him to act so stupidly?
She shook her anger off, although it was not easy. The golden glow around her was spreading out and becoming stronger.
The fear she felt was quickly overshadowed by a fierce need to protect herself and her husband.
"I want to fight that thing," she said.
