The large thing flying towards them was not quite large enough to be a dragon, but it was still so big that being in its bad books would have been a horrible idea.
Mariana squinted her eyes and tried to make out a form of anything that would have rung a bell inside her head. Griffin, no, that was too big to be a griffin, and it certainly was not a bird, at least not any bird she knew.
The mass, or the shape, was almost as dark as the blackest night and it seemed to obey no known laws of nature at all. The way it smoothly glided on the winds suggested the presence of some sort of a magical power, but from this distance, no one could have guessed what was coming towards them.
Except for the pirate king, of course.
"That's Matt," Daniel said, after a whole lot of minutes spent squinting at the thing.
"And who is Matt?" Mariana almost giggled at the sound of a perfectly ordinary name in an extraordinary situation.
