The two of them stared at each other for quite some time before Hakki broke off eye contact after he realized something.
His playful expression turned into that of a focused one, trying to see what was below him. "What are you looking at down there?" Akina asked Hakki.
"Shh. Quiet down." Hakki placed his fingers on his lips, asking Akina to quit talking. She argued with him some more until a loud banging on the main door was heard.
"Great, did you bring some of your friends?" She asked sarcastically. "I did not expect them to move this quick. Tch." Hakki shook his head as he heard it.
"Do not be alarmed or panicked, but some sort of spirit has appeared. And it is not a good one at that." Hakki's words scared Akina.
"W-What are we supposed to do then?" She said as her knees began to tremble.
"Do you know how to use a bow?" Hakki asked her as he stared straight into her eyes. The banging on the door got louder and louder as time went on.
"A bow? What era do you think this is?" Akina retorted back in response. "Damnit! Alright, if you can't use it, then we will both die. Just do anything you can to place the arrows on that thing's head." Hakki explained to her as he began to wave his arms around, materializing a black elegant bow out of thin air, as well as a quiver of equally dark arrows.
Akina gulped. "Maybe you should just fight that thing yourself?" She nervously asked Hakki.
"I would if I could! I mean if I did not mess up the possession, I would be controlling your body right now…" Hakki uttered to her. "But since I messed up, we have to work together. I cannot physically harm these things, you have to be the one to do it."
Akina Sumeragi knew that there was nothing more she could do other than to fight this thing. "Is this some kind of sick, twisted, and demented punishment of some sort!?" She said to herself.
Hakki placed the bow and arrows on her hand. "Remember, if you mess up, then we are both done. If you want to live, then you have to win."
"I do not even know what I am going to be fighting downstairs!" Akina argued. "Neither do I. It has been a thousand years, I do not know what sort of spirits we are going to have in this era."
The two of them slowly walked downstairs as the banging got so strong that they actually heard the door get destroyed.
Akina could feel herself being drenched in sweat, her breaths were short and quick, even her legs were not working like they normally used to.
"You have to calm down, Akina, do not let your emotions get to you." Hakki desperately tried to calm her down, but his words were not reaching his ears at all.
While moving down the stairway, they finally saw what the spirit looked like. It was a decayed human, its flesh was dripping out of its skin, as well as having three more arms sticking out from its back. The most notable thing about this thing was that it had a paper scroll marked on its head.
"Heh. So, that is how it is, huh?" Hakki grinned as soon as he saw this thing. "I-I thought you said 'spirit', why does it have a physical body?!" Akina ran back upstairs to try and compose herself.
"Because the spirit is inside that thing. It is controlling the body. Judging by the way it looks, it is probably a deceased person being possessed by a spirit. It is best to put it out of its misery." Hakki told her with a straight face. "Remember, Akina, if you do not win, then we will both die."
Those words rang through Akina's ears as she exhaled deeply, trying to gather her thoughts and to calm herself down.
The decayed spirit slowly walked up the stairs while trying to reach out to Akina with its arms. Hakki slowly taught her how to place the arrow on the bow and how to use the weapon.
Akina drew the bow and let an arrow fly off, but it never really reached the decayed spirit, it just flew out in a pathetic way.
After five more attempts at shooting the arrows, Akina was still not landing the mark, and the spirit was getting nearer and nearer as time went on.
"I just have to hit these arrows right on its head, right?" Akina asked Hakki who was biting his nails nervously by the side. "T-That is right, just do it!" Hakki was more afraid of him dying rather than Akina's safety.
Akina handed the black bow to Hakki as she tied her hair back in a ponytail. "Hold this for me." She said.
Akina Sumeragi then ran towards with two arrows held on each of her hand. Before she reached the spirit, she jumped off the stairs and stabbed the arrow right on the decayed spirit's head. Gushing out massive amounts of blood from its body.
The stench was absolutely riveting, but Akina's adrenaline was surging through her veins far too quick for her to realize it. As the spirit was left kneeling on the ground, it was still not dead, however.
"Akina! Finish it off!" Hakki shouted from atop the stairs, sending supportive cheers to Akina.
"I know!" She then hurled the arrow on her left hand and revved it up, it found the mark. Bullseye.
Hakki slowly tip toed around the decayed spirit's body as he approached Akina. "How do you know my name?" She asked him. "Earlier, you called me by my name, right?"
"Well, I sort of read your name on your ID on the table." Hakki said. "Anyway, we won! We won, Akina!" the Kyoshi spirit celebrated their victory as Akina placed her hand on her forehead. "What did I even get my self into?" She asked herself in her head with a sigh.
