Chereads / Rural Nowhere: Volume 1 / Chapter 3 - The House

Chapter 3 - The House

Kyle, Nicole, Kate, and Grace were still limping down the road before they saw a weird girl on the ground. She was messing with a few sticks. "Ah- Oh god! Little girl- It's dangerous out here! Where are your parents?!" Nicole exclaimed to her. The girl's head shot up and looked at her with an uncertain face. "Oh. They're in that house over there. Wanna follow me?" The girl would ask with a weird smile. Nicole walked to her and nodded. "Everyone, stay here. I'm gonna go help this girl to her house." She said as the girl walked.

2 minutes later the girl smiled at her again. "My name is Barbie. But you can call me Babee." She looked at her like a devil, Nicole looked at her and nodded with a sigh. "My name's Nicole." She would say back. Babee smiled at her and ran to her house, "Cmon! My parents are here!" She exclaimed. "Ah… I'm sorry, sweetie, but I need to get back to my friends…" Nicole would giggle before the girl began to talk again. "NO! YOU CAN'T!" She screams. Nicole scoffed and tried to walk away before she felt a sharp pain in her head. "H-H-H-" She couldn't speak.

She turned around effortlessly and weakly looked at the man who stood there. It was a weird man with a vest and a long-sleeved shirt, the one that was hurting Tanner in that house! Nicole's eyes rolled back into her head and she dropped to the ground. "Racket! Racket! Thanks, big brooo!" Babee exclaimed as she hugged the man's leg. Racket smiled at her and sighed as he let go of the bloody frying pan he held. "No problem, Babee…" He said as he began to pick up Nicole and throw her over his shoulder. "Let's go inside, sis." He smiled.

Grace and Kate were waiting for them to come back, it was pretty dark outside; foggy aswell. Kyle looked at them and sighed, "Where is she? I thought she was just assisting that child." He would say with confusion and nervousness. "Well, maybe she's telling those girls' parents about Tanner and the car?" Kate tried to guess. Kyle shrugged and walked around.

"I need to take a piss." He said as he looked at them. Kate shooed him over to a singular bush. Kyle sighed as he approached the bush, he's never done his business outside. This was so annoying. He began to pee into the bush, he sighed once he finished and walked over to the others.

Kate breathed heavily, she began to panic and cry. "I- I don't know where Tanner is… I hate this… WE NEVER SHOULD HAVE GONE ON THIS TRIP!" She screamed with anger and fear. She was shaking vigorously and breathing heavily, "God- I CAN'T DO THIS! TANNER'S GONE… NICOLE IS PROBABLY DEAD TOO!" Kate screamed as she clenched her fist, she held onto her purse tightly.

Kyle crossed his arms as he paced back and forth, trying not to freak out and cry or something. "I'm sorry… W-We can find them… Let's just wait for now… Alright?" Kyle tried to reassure Kate.

Kyle's mind was spiraling, he was thinking that his girlfriend, Nicole, was dead and he hated to think about it. "Okay… Okay… Okay…" Kate stammered as she just sat there, rocking back and forth on the dusty ground.

Nicole lay on the ground, she felt so light-headed and couldn't breathe well. Her breathing was delayed and it might be because she had gotten a hemorrhage. She coughed up a load of blood as she shivered. She looked up at her attackers, her eyes watered as she tried to desperately catch her breath. "Pl-Please let me go…" She cried as she looked at Racket.

Racket stared down at her as he sighed, he grabbed her by her waist and then levered her over his shoulder. He began to carry her inside, "No…" Nicole cried quietly, the senses in her brain were disconnecting and she couldn't do much. She was so lightheaded and pale that she couldn't even try to wiggle out of his grasp.

Babee was right behind Racket as he carried the teenager, "Her name is… Nicole!" She smiled as she looked at him. Racket laughed as he looked at her, "Nice to know." Racket would say as he walked inside the house. He walked upstairs in the house and then walked to the storage room. He laid her on the floor.

The back of her head bled repeatedly as she lay there, hopeless. "I don't wanna die…" She begged as she watched him exit the room. Racket walked out of the room, shutting the door loudly.

He walked down the stairs and to the living room. His anger was hitting him and he stroked his greasy hair. His eyes trailed the dust on the floor as he sighed, Racket adjusted his vest and walked to the couch before sitting down. His hands trailed the table as he grabbed a cigarette from the top of it, Racket sighed as he placed it in between his lips and huffed. He then pulled it out and blew the smoke everywhere, a smile crossing his face.

Alec exited his room and walked past one of his sisters' rooms, "Maddie~! You gotta come out sometime…" He said in a sing-songy voice. Alec smiled devilishly when Maddie looked at him, she crept to the corner of her rickety bed, trying to make him get away from her.

"Don't hurt me again… Al… Please…" Maddie whimpered as she sighed. Alec sighed, "You're still stupid! I hate you! Remember, you sit around here every day and you don't come to deal with victims, eat food, nothin'... You've only eaten our food 5 times! Every time you did, I'd catch you throwin' up!" He cried with a freakish smile. He looked at her with insane beady eyes, he was crazier than everybody in the whole family; and this family was insane.

Maddie sat there, emotionless as she sighed. She crossed her arms and leaned forward. She sat at the end of her bed, "Leave me alone, Alec!" She said sternly but not mean. The oldest woman was just trying to stand her ground against her brother.

Alec breathed heavily, he was angry and wanted to hurt her. But he just knew that Dottie would come rushing in. She was crazy as hell but stood against Alec performing violence on the family.

He had previously done heinous acts to his family and his victims. He was manipulative to everybody, including his brother and sisters. He had previously sexually assaulted Maddie and tried to threaten to tell the police about the family's ways before. He's too scared to go to prison, and he never said anything…

He held his head up and smiled, "You'll never leave. You're stuck in this family that you call 'hell'. Even though momma and poppa gave you a home… They loved you… but now they're dead… and you're stuck with me!" He threatened her as he exited her doorway, leaving her room. Maddie breathed in a panic.

The woman got up from her bed and shut her door, she locked it as she walked back. She sighed and placed a hand on her used bandages. She felt the blood that soaked through. She had gotten a severe infection in her eye due to the home where she lived. It caused her to get sick but now it's trying to heal. Even so, it is still very infected.

"I hate this…" Maddie muttered as she sadly put her hands over her face. She sighed, before looking around. She looked at the bloody bandages that littered the floor, she breathed heavily.

She knew that it was her family's fault for giving her aches and pains. She also knew it was her family who gave her acanthamoeba keratitis. "I just wish I was dead already…" She whispered as she lay there. Maddie was sweating profusely due to her fear and anger, also sadness.

Kate got up from the floor and she sighed. She looked up at Kyle who was thinking. "She's been gone too long… We have to go look for them now!" He exclaimed with a shaky, fearing voice. Kate looked at him before looking at Grace, "Grace… Let's go." She ordered as she grabbed her arm softly and got her off the ground. Grace breathed heavily as she looked down.

The two girls began to jog down the road again, "Kyle. Can you recall what direction Nicole took when she helped that girl?" Grace asked him with nervousness as she eyed the dusty and dark road. Kyle pointed ahead of them, "Over there!" She exclaimed with a hopeful expression.

The small group was walking down the road before they saw the home. From the outside, this house looks dusty and old. It has been built with yellow pine wood and has red pine wooden decorations. Small, rectangular windows add to the overall look of the house and have been added to the house in a mostly asymmetric way. The windows have curtains and or you cannot see into the house from the outside.

"I- Wait, is that it?" Kate asked with an unsure tone as she pointed to the house before she looked over to Kyle and Grace. "Uhm… if it's the only house here then- I think so." Kyle would say as he looked at her.
